Hey nice ride, I´m curious on this car cause it had the same engine as a Mitsubishi Montero (on the US Dodge Raider) that I had once but without the turbo....
And sorry for my ignorance and my inoportunity, what´s the name of the song 0:40?
This car is classic. I had an 87 Toyota Celica GTS. The real deal 3s-ge. Power adjustable lumbar sport seats, heated mirrors, endless powerband. Miss that car.
what a nice car...im just not that attracted to newer cars as much as older ones...i just love the straight lines, i dont know why , and its not cuz they where the cars in style when i was young cuz im only 15...
most ppl my age would be like be like shit i have to get some old car...I WANT ONE
hahahaaa all those same guys are the ones that answer my questions too on starquestclub. props on the cloth seats, i like the leather ones better tho...
Nice video and really nice car! I used to have one, just like that, same color and everything. i miss it to this day, and i am defianately going to get another one....Once you own or even drive one of these cars only then can you fully understand why these cars are so awesome!
Both injectors were cleaned at a fuel injection place, it made a difference I checked headgasket and it was fine I did a compression check came out good, the exhaust is straight I cut the calaystic converter off we don't need to smog cars here Oregon older than 20 yrs old.
My problem is that when I start mine it won't rev past 3-4,000 rpm it's like clogged, but I leave to idle on it's own it's ok but if I drive the car it will die after many attempts it will sort of drive ok but heats up too much. I did manage to take the injectors to get cleaned and ran a little better but still has similar problems.
The larger secondary injector can clog up then you can't boost or the car doesn't like to drive down the road.
Far as overheating...the cooling system has to be in top notch shape to keep up.
Have the radiator rodded or replace it...hollow out the first catalytic converter or replace it. Make sure your thermostat is working, use redline water wetter(entire bottle)
It always a good idea to make sure your headgasket isn't blown with this car as they tend to blow headgaskets
Honestly, if I was going to daily drive one of these cars again. I'd either have the motor rebuilt like I did with this car OR I would replace the water pump, timing chains, remove the balance shafts, thermostat
Unless all that stuff is new or in great shape these cars don't have a chance in hell in being reliable for daily driving without overheating.
@MIZQUITLI I used to have a starion and it would sputter and spit after boost started to kick in. I thought my pump was going out and not keeping up and when i took the line off of the output side of the origional pump i found a tiny cone shaped filter in the line that was clogged big time. i took it out and it ran better than i could've imagined.
I'm sure you felt a sense of ":)))) YEAHHH!" When that thing started up again. I'm getting mine when I'm 16. It's got a a problem that when it gets hot, the ignitor box stops working, therefore, breakdown.
just curious,,, ive had a few mustangs,, one was a 12 second car,, the stock pistons wer 9:01 FORGED ,, and can handle good boost,, the 93-95 5.0 pistons are hyperutectic,, but CAST?????? 10 - 15 psi??? cast pistons are not only NOT recomended, but are just not for boost,, if youre giving 10 psi to cast pistons,, i need to know who makes em cause its impressive,, VERY nice car tho
I used to have a silver '87 that sadly I had to sell. I always loved that 'bassy' exhaust note, which rivaled a Porsche 944. Now that I am older and can afford one, I'm getting me an '88 or '89 model, which are the more reliable ones.
@vela07 ahh ok my firend has a 1987 Wideboy conquest TSi that is built with a 14g. And a 1986 Starion that is about to have a ford 302 in it. Have you turned the boost up from the stock 7-8psi i belive is what a 12a is set at?
You can turn up the stock 88-89 boost from 10psi to about 15psi which is huge if you have a full 3" exhaust...but this particular car had stock exhaust.
Very cool, thanks for the help. I found an 86 TSI flatty on Craigslist for $200, non-running, so that's what kinda sparked the whole thing. I'm hoping to save up some money and buy a widebody model - they just look so awesome with the box flares and 16's. Plus, the added horsepower is nice, even though it seems like the hp difference can be tuned out pretty easily - plus a bit more ;)
Man I used to have one of these. They kick ass and were way ahead of their time especially with that black velor/velvet interior. Mine broke in the exhaust and leaked boost so I sold it for $1100 :(
you had a simple boost leak along with a exhaust leak and it made you sell the car? That shows that you clearly dont know crap about mechanics. Both are simple to fix.
You are right and the proper way to break in the rings is to downshift from 4th and 3rd and let the engine wind down. That beds the rings really good.
I had a 89 Conquest, and I broke a tooth off a gear, and also broke a syncro ring, but it always got me home. Sold it at 100,000 miles for $2000. I miss it.

I sold the car in this video awhile back. I heard it was sold to someone in Houston, and the guy I sold it to lived in Ohio.
He had it repainted stock RED.
I'd like to know if the car is still on the road and how many miles it's driven.

@MIZQUITLI take out your cat and gut the precut using a crowbar.
Check your MAF and your error codes.

@MIZQUITLI Do you experience violent vibrations at 4000rpm? If so, your balance shaft is probably 180 degrees out.

Very cool car... I am looking into one as a project car - but from what I've heard they're expensive to maintain... I'll have to look into that.
And does that equalizer come stock? Because that is made of pure awesome. Haha
cherrybomb1493 2 years ago
Most people didn't take care of these cars properly so when you buy a chassis, you get what you pay for.
Spend extra and buy a nice lower mile chassis to start with.
The only reason I bought this high mile 230k chassis is because the owner took care of it.

when running in dont just drive slowly; u must load the engine for short bursts or the cylinders and piston rings wont bed properly.
tpvalley 2 years ago
You are right and the proper way to break in the rings is to downshift from 4th and 3rd and let the engine wind down. That beds the rings really good.
Thanks though!
vela07 2 years ago
most important thing is to put load into piston so it pushes hard into cylinder wall.
as the crank or piston pin is offset to prevent piston slap combustion load is best.
tpvalley 2 years ago

It worked sometimes..luckily it worked when the inspection guy tested it, and it passed!

Really? I wish your horn was more energetic.

I was reading the factory manual, supposedly you can adjust your horn volume by turning the bolt on it.
