This Life We are all tone deaf but we wish we could sing standing up together moving our lips but still nothing One crys out for freedom One crys out for peace One crys out for food We all put our hands together In the dawns early light and smile and realize that this life may take a while and that we better start cooking or that last one is going to die… M.S. Morrison
I think the A perfect Circle version is better, and one thing is important, the cover of a perfect circle is different of the other and is more dark than the others, they only take the Lyrics, no the music :)
Best by Costello. Chris does his normal good work. Perfect Circle Song changes the tune so much and it sucks a full 360 degrees.
Sometimes I just can't understand how bad the music is today. Rap, hip-hop, and it's been so long since the 60s 70s 80s that I can't listen to most radio anymore.
@11xzxzxz Personally I think APC does a brilliant job on this song. They take it and make it entirely their own. Few artists are capable of doing that now a days. They just make it like the orignial with just a slight difference in genre.
This is a Nick Lowe song. He originally recorded it with Brinsley Schwarz in the mid 1970s. Elvis Costello recorded a fantastic rocking version on Armed Forces, his third album which was produced by Nick Lowe. There are dozens of cover of this great song and Chris Cornell's is one of the best.
he is chris cornell...he can do that...and what is so bad about exploring and doing different things in music..if all he did was "grungey" music to make everyone happy and sell records, he would be a sellout...
the internet, in case no one ever warned you, is a dangerous place to voice your opinion. someone may come along and say "i think that chris cornell is not the best singer ever."
I love this guy! who doesn't love this guy!!!

This is a very good version but nothing beats his version on the Unplugged in Sweden album. Not even the original.

Only 1,000,000,000 times better than the soulless A Perfect Circle version.
Still just a drop in the bucket of Nick's and Elvis's genius.
Good on Cornell for doing it some justice, though.

Of course ii's originally by Nick Lowe, he wrote it in 1974 when he was in Brinsley Schwarz ...
At the beginning of this video Chris Cornell clearly says "Nick Lowe", listen close ...
Anyway, his voice sounds a bit too stretched and does not match the lyrics and melody perfectly like the original ...
Cheers
Rob.

Nick Lowe did write it, but the ONLY version is Elvis Costello's. He made a CLASSIC.

Yeah because it's so hard to look up who originall wrote a song.
I mean, I like Chris, but give him credit where it's due, not for knowing the writer of a song.
If people think Perfect Circle wrote this song, then .... geez, I don't even know what to say.
