its called frutits basket as a metaphor for being different finding your place in a world full of people different from you , just how all fruit is different in a basket but its all fruit at the end of the day and they fit well together

its fruits basket because in japanese they didntg have plain T for fruiT basket, but they had a tsa, so translated its fruits basket. Also, a game Tohru played with her classmates when they were children was called fruits basket. i bel;eive thats how it goes.

@LindZ1117 There is this game where everybody sits in chairs in a circle and people are assigned a fruit and when you call out the fruit everybody runs around trying to get to another chair before everybody else. There is then one person left in the middle, and that person has to call out a fruit and so on and so forth. But in the anime they decided to make tohru a riceball instead, and nobody picks her until later. Fruits Basket is only the English name that the writer decided to give it. :)
