Pico And Sepulveda Doheny.... Cahuenga.... La Brea.... Tar Pits! La Jolla.... Sequoia.... La Brea.... Tar Pits! You can keep Alvarado, Santa Monica, even Beverly Drive. Vine may be fine, but for mine I want to feel alive and settle down in my La Brea.... Tar Pits.... Where nobody's dreams come true.
@paragshah2112 Thanks - you obviously know the streets of L.A. I love this song, but am a Midwesterner. Only visited Quakestown a few times, and I wasn't driving. I thought they were saying "Segoya" and "El Dorado". Now I'll know better.
Doctor... Doctor... Where are you, Doctor? ...damn. "...the Dr. Demento official website announced on June 6, 2010 that the show that aired that weekend would be the final broadcast in the terrestrial radio version; however, new episodes of the online streaming version will still continue to be produced for the foreseeable future, with new episodes posted every Saturday... ..according to the site... Thank you for sharing this one. It's the funniest video that I've seen in a while. I loved Dr.D some 30 years ago. Ouch, has it been that long?! Alas, it portrays the current state of affairs ... "where nobody's dreams come true."
@revraikes there will NEVER be another Doctor Demento. Nobody's producing any comedy like what was available to him back then.... Carlin's dead, Pryor's dead, Cheech and Chong are doing cameos on George Lopez, and nobody's rushing to remake "Fish Heads"...
@conradragzoff I feel ya. There's gotta be some creative folks out there though. We just have to get 'em to start doin' funny stuff again. It's not like things have to be going great for ppl to goof on stuff. Those artists you mentioned were from some times of serious hardship, as I recall from growing up on them, too :)
Wow those are both great insightful comments (sorry I missed the one from months ago). I've never heard of Orson Bean, but will have to locate it now. You should both see the film this was lifted from, Forbidden Zone. It's as bittersweet as your stories ^_^
Riding my bicycle in "85" I found myself at a spot where there were some train tracks, an intersection and nothing else, not even much traffic on a Sunday around 3 in the afternoon. I had this lonely feeling of being at the most desolate place in LA. I looked at the street signs, Pico and Sepulveda. Now the this song I heard on Dr. Demento made sense! There couldn't have been another intersection in all of LA with two famous streets crossing that is more desolate.
The final minute reminds me of the old Orson Bean routine: The Dynamite Room. Company rules forbid smoking there, but that's where he goes for a smoke. Why? He belongs to a strong union.
This movie is huge.

@conradragzoff I know, I grew up on Doctor Demento. Someone needs to do an acceptable podcast of the same caliber :)

@conradragzoff If you're in the LA area, you MUST see the Thrilling Adventure Hour. Not *entirely* like Dr. D., but pretty damn close.
