Essentially more money gets you a lighter bike. And in the world of cycling weight difference makes a huge difference to the performance of it.
If two riders of equal ability race, one on a cheap $100 bike and one on a $10000 bike, obviously the one on the expensive bike will win. The cost of a bike is generally relative, but not restricted to how well it will perform. But it dosen't take a 2 year old to figure out that rider ability is important.
@TheMarshal1992 ...okay so SPONSORS waste thousands on a bike thats no better than a $100. bike. why get sponsors in the first place? why not just buy your $100 bike and be on your way? maybe you cant accept that you brand new venture isnt as good as the best bikes in the world. let me get back to what this video was about in the first place. "to maximize the speed capability of the bike." "its not called the rider doesnt matter". and its not titled, "you need these bikes", kid. -
The sponcers " waste " thousands of dollars on bikes because they can afford it, what you are doing is saying people who arnt rich should go out and blow all of their money on a great bike because it helps a lot , IT WONT HELP WHEN YOU GET BLOWN OFF THE BACK WITH A $15000 BIKE.
..pay attention to the title of the video, "how to set up your bike for racing". before you come on here saying the rider is what matters most, remember, the guy is not talking about the rider. if youre a fast rider thats fine.
: of course if you put a slow guy on a pro bike, a fast guy on a cheap bike, the fast guy will probably still win. however, put a pro racer on a pro bike, and a pro racer on a cheap bike, whos got a better chance of winning? according to marshall 1992 the bike makes no difference whatsoever... so your entering a huge bike race going against all the fastest bikers in the world. "hey, i'll just grab one o these here $99 bikes, cuz the bike makes absolutely no difference anyhow."
Stop the hating! If a person where to ride on a $150.00 mountain bike then on a $11,500.00 road bike on the same smooth paved track, obviously the person will be a lot faster on the more expensive rider. A large part (not 90%) of speed is the rider, but a large part is also the bike! Think, correct gear ratio. Have you ever peddled into the wind sitting up, it's a lot harder than being aero. This video is about the bike being faster AND the bike fitting the rider better, making him or her faster
its not the rim or bike set up dude, it is 90% the rider, those people who spend all that money on those wheels have been smoked by people like me with classic spoke wheels. this vid is useless...........
@jnatale3 are you a pro bike racer?...its about minimizing resistance. try racing against a pro on a pro bike. the guy is talking about making your bike as fast as you can make it. its about maximizing the speed your capable of getting...smartass
@frequencydude I'm not a "pro" racer but I've been on a bike for over 20 years& I speak from experience. Making your bike as fast as you can make it is great. But again, about 90% is the rider, not the bike parts. I found if a bike has these 3 qualities, then you have a great bike to use:
1) The bike must be safe
2) The bike must be comfortable
3) The bike must be reliable
All else is not as important. I've heard of people with road bikes from Walmart beating those riding $2,500 bikes
@jnatale3 youve been cycling for 20 years. ive been cycling, building em and working on em for about 28 years. so what. like i said the video isnt about whats important on a bike. its about HOW TO MAKE IT FASTER... if you were racing against a pro cycler, on his pro race bike, all YOU would need is a walmart bike? wow, you must be awesome dude!
@TheMarshal1992 ...so who in your view fits the veteran bike racer personage? the guy riding a walmart bike? the very fact that you think the bike doesnt matter says you know nothing about physics, let alone racing.
Easiest way to improve racing is to train more. Wheels help, but without a decent rider on the bike no amount of carbon or aero advantages can help you.
@SeaRanger311 ...wow youre brilliant ! im sure the guy knows that the rider needs to be in shape... did he say you dont need a decent rider? hes assuming most everyone were smart enough to know that already. now a decent rider on a bike adapted for racing compared to a decent rider on a bike that isnt adapted for racing. its not complicated.
Can someone please explain this to me: my bike tires keep wearing down just after I cycle 100 miles. I've never known this to happen on any other bike but the one I bought. I'm also feeling a lot of drag on the road. Yesterday my back tire exploded and was torn to shreds, I didn't hit anything it just looked so worn. The bike is 2 months old and has lived mostly in the shop because of repairs. I've only rode it 120 miles??
Try some more high end tires and tubes. If you're using Kenda tires, that may be the issue, I heard that the cheaper ones (included on sub-$1000 bikes) may explode or shred to bits. If it's not the tires then you might want to try some different wheels. Honestly, find a local bike shop and have them help you diagnose it. it might be as simple as turning a wheel spoke nut a half-turn or something like that to eliminate tire wear.
Hahaha how to set up your bike for racing in 1min30secs. Buy some cool looking wheels. Ah wait arent they banned by the UCI for road racing? No fear fourth cat race here I come. Hopefully on a litespeed with a trek kit. Hmm colabo
Nope. In fact you loose efficiency if you ride with TT set up wheels in a road race.
You can get alot of crosswinds and a TT set up wheels actually weighs more that road wheels because they are ideal for aerodynamics. (Although they are carbon)
The disc wheel will create less comfort because of no spokes.
A road race is all about comfort and speed. A TT is all about speed. Sometimes riders will have the same wheelset with no rear disc wheel, depending on road conditions.
Disk wheels are generally not allowed at mass start events, however aside from that there is no set limit on rim depth. The rule is that any rim which exceeds 25mm is classified as non standard, and then must be individually cleared for competition by UCI. The Zipp front wheel shown in the video has been cleared by the UCI and so is race legal.
So? Anyone who plans on racing should know what kind of tire to use... even then racing bikes all use tires that are basically the same. But if you don't have a racing bike you should get the highest pressure tires with the least amount of tread possible.
u guys r retards , good job dude , hes just trying to help u !

most people are better off buying new shoes rather than wheels, the extra stiffness can work a charm and it costs much less

@frequencydude Well that clears up the fact that you are infact a child and not an experienced bike rider.
Their sponcers, SPONCER their bikes...
Obviously they have their own personal bikes, but they get paid to ride the bike, so they need the upgrades.
All i'm trying to say is that you dont NEED these bikes... Riding the bike isnt about what you ride, its about how fit you are.

For someone of your age, you surely dont fit the veteran bike racer persona...
ie: Its not about the ride, its the rider.
Which I believe is 100% true.
