  • He's obviously lip syncing. Awell. Great song though :D

  • @mikodood1 Of course he is as it was a TV show, where full playback had to be used :-)

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • I LOVE THE VERSION ON "Young Frankenstein."

  • Dude is just plain weird, but the women! Fuck, they're sexy as fuck!!

  • @2369245RY They're from the eighties; Easily in their fifties. :)

  • @Libbersons Yes, I know that. I remember when this first came out is what I should've said.

  • Ponies brought me here... wait how?

  • @pieman7678

    *watches Ponies the Anthology*

    *searches different parts of it*

    *searches "Puttin on the Ritz"*

    Is that how?

  • @FilAm4494 Haha, yep.

  • But in other news, how do those women tap dance in high heels? There has to be OSHA regulations against things that dangerous.

  • @Rileyman2rr - Actually they're not doing a lot of tap dancing. Watch their feet and don't pay attention to the "sounds" of tap dancing. Back in the day, probably before you were born, there were a lot of movie musicals showing gals dancing in heels. Quite impressive.

  • WHAT THE hell was going on in the eighties? I am in that part of YouTube again.

  • I wanted his lightsaber cane ;)

  • @XSC3 - I want his five sexy dancers!

  • Got here from Fred Astaire's dancing while singing this song. (1946)

  • 88 people aren't dressed like million dollar troopers, and more than likely don't try very hard to look like Gary Cooper.

  • what is this song even about? like it though

  • @stabbinhobo12 Irving Berlin's song included references to the then-popular fad of flashily-dressed but poor black Harlemites parading up and down Lenox Avenue, "Spending every dime / For a wonderful time".

The make-up is a representation of the way lounge singers in the 20's & 30's looked on stage.

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT i though his make-up was kind of creepy...

  • @stabbinhobo12 The make-up was a representation of the way lounge singers in the 20's & 30's looked on stage.

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • STEWIE WITH HIS RECORDER

  • 88 people were born after 1983

  • this dude always seems to make stuff creepy

  • :)

  • This is bad ass.

  • Somewhere in the hereafter...Liberace is going.."sh*t, why didn't I think of this?"

  • I'd love to be one of the dancing girls LOL!

  • I heard this song in an applebees and almost shit myself in the intense moment of fear that I experienced.

  • hes the 80's Jack White

  • This is all right, but I like the other tacos better.

  • Comment removed

  • i tap dance and i cant keep up

  • this guy is fucking scary

  • @Worrun Keep in mind, this was probably preformed in the 80's. So, styles were quite different.

  • @WhiteFalcon534 You are right as it was at a TV show in the US in 1983.

  • I love his style ^__^

  • taco is my favorite singer.

  • Destroyed Puttin' On the Ritz :( I hate this version!!!

  • @WillYouBeThere2009 That's your opinion, but what really counts is the following. Before Irving Berlin passed away in 1989, he stated that he liked Taco's version of his song the most of all of them, which was a pretty impressive compliment by one of the greatest songwriters of all time :)

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT

Truly a great version. There are still some people who appreciate music, Taco was a man before his time.

  • @JMEUD You are perfectly right! The video is/was the absolute proof of Taco's versatility...singer, actor, dancer, entertainer...furthermore he was co-director of the video.

Besides he did not just cover the original, but included parts of "Always", "White Christmas", "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and "There's No Business Like Show Business" (all written by his idol Irving Berlin) as well as a tap dance solo to honor Fred Astaire.

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT Damn i see you on everyone vid of him lol

  • @JMEUD He sure was, i love listening to his music

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT Oh wow, i didnt know that, this is a great version, Taco is an amazing entertainer

  • @oerdin0910 You need to go get some quality counseling, with medication if necessary.

  • @cw8jwh NUH UH

  • 85 dislikes??? Must be Obama followers... Or Zombies!

  • Is that the crakers package ritz craker

  • thumbs up if taco moves like an anometronic

  • what if this guy walks into your room tonight

  • I personally like the original video much better then this version of it :-/ though this version as better quality audio XD

  • @asklordfluffy If you mean Fred Astaire you are wrong, because Harry Richman sang the original in the musical film "Puttin' on th Ritz" in 1930!

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT No i meant the original video Taco did for this song.. This video is a remake, because the first one was deemed to be racist

  • @asklordfluffy This video is from a show where Taco performed during his US tour in 1983.

  • @asklordfluffy And that was such a shame, too. Blackface was never meant in a racist way. It was meant as a tribute to black performers. It was meant to be flattering to imitate the iconic black performer of the era. No one perceived it as racially insensitive at the time. Political correctness, in its misguided pursuit of utopian contentment, robs humanity of joy. I much prefer the original video, and bless Taco for having the conviction to make his artistic vision a reality in the first place.

  • Taco brings cover songs from the 1920s to 40s back to life!

  • @dobrautero Exactly :)

  • Love it!

  • very cool

  • This is a great song

  • Taco is a pimp!!!

  • It's Nothing without Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle.

  • 82 people don't know good music, even when it's right in front of them.

  • @AnoriEnvarius you got that right

  • geil :D

  • SO creepy...or eerie....either way. This guy's awesome!

  • I am sure that this has been asked, but .. is this Tops/Pops or Solid Gold? Wow. I was totally involved with my first love and Reaganomics when this song came out. Also, I had a cassette player and a record player.. a vinyl record player.. I bought this 45 and also Synchronicity by the Police. Isn't it something how we as people have these little 'restore' points in our memories to revisit? This one is by far one of my favorites...

  • @Polt318 Neither... nor. "Ritz" never entered the UK charts so there was no chance to get on Top of the Pops. The Solid Gold video you will find on my channel as 59 more vids of Taco :)

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • This creeps me out like clowns or something.

  • Jay Leno?

  • @WildWe5 In 1983 Taco had numerous of TV appearances in the U.S. and Canada and can't remember anymore, but he is sure it was not at Jay Leno :)

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT well, in 1983, johnny carson was still the host of the tonight show. leno started guest hosting probably around 1987 or so. it wouldn't have been leno then.

  • i just could not get enough of taco,he sooo good

  • "Puttin' on the Ritz" is a popular song written and published in 1929 by Irving Berlin and introduced by Harry Richman in the musical film Puttin' on the Ritz (1930). The title derives from the slang expression "putting on the Ritz," meaning to dress very fashionably. The expression was inspired by the swanky Ritz Hotel.

  • @HykCraft Wikipedia is quite useful :)

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • jeeez i wonder if there was any lip syncing

  • this was my dad song he passed away in 95

  • Comment removed

  • that guy looks like a puppet its just a little creepy but i love it!

  • total 80s,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,period...........

  • i think taco is a robot...

  • @AppoHead77 LOL

  • This song rocks lol

  • Happy birthday TACO!

  • Imagine if he came into your room at night

  • @SuperZombiekilla14 And dancing:)

  • @Zorozangel ....then SuperZombiekilla14 would be excited :)

  • Wow, this sounds really good, dare I say better than even the official video. Sounds really good with everyone clapping too.

  • its definatly a unqiue style of dancing!!

  • to mucch make-up on

  • thats me warming my hands by the barrel in the new created depression thanks BILDEBERG GROUP

  • lol @ the 80's.

  • When I went into my teenagers son's room this son was playing on his computer. He asked me if I ever heard this song...lol I started singing right along and we both laughed and laughed. I asked him if he ever saw this video. We both enjoyed so much. Thanks Taco for bridging the generation gap even for a few minutes!

  • @klsmidt I will tell Taco about your comment and I am sure he will like it a lot :)

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • @klsmidt im a teen too and i love this song! :)

  • @klsmidt LOL cool story but Taco is kind of a joke. Kind of like todays rappers. Me and my dad had a bonding moment of making fun of him.

  • @thespecter2 I understand. What important is that you and your dad had a bonding moment. Those moments are the moments you will cherish all your life.

  • @klsmidt turn off the media , tv , radio etc and there is no generation gap!!

    Wake up!!!!

  • @doordangle awesome! That is good to know!!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG, but this singer realy was no singing in this video! Look in 0:18 and you can see that he was quiet XD

  • @voyeurkid At TV shows full playback is used worldwide :)

  • @voyeurkid You can also see he doesn't have a microphone.

  • @Jacone10 :)

  • no black and white people with robot voices and no its not a racial joke well kinda i guess

  • does anyone else hear something between 26 secs and 28? sounds vaguely like "oooh kinky" if shrek was saying it. tripping me out

  • @kikikattz o.O i totally heard it!

  • This deserves far more than just 600k views.

  • @SonodarDaeburn A certain "ellocorod" posted the original of "Ritz" in 2007, which already has more than three million views :)

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • Saddened to hear that. It's still the best in my book!

  • The crap of life got you feeling down, low, or regretting that you've woke up on the wrong side of the dirt??? This is the "Pick you up song" of all time. And this particular video (of any of the others) is the BEST!

To RoCoManagement; Are they ever going to 'digitize' this clip, or the original for HD or Blu-Ray? I wish they would!

  • @hermiebnice I don't think so :(

This clip is from a TV show in the US in 1983, while Taco's former record company RCA became a part of Sony Music Entertainment many years ago.

  • Geri Halliwell doing a cover of this song?

  • @sexygeri1 I googled the following:

Most disturbingly, reports have suggested the ‘comeback track’ of choice will be titled "Putting On The Bling" a reworking of the song Puttin' On The Ritz from the famous 1930's musical!

  • Great foot work. at 1:53 to 2:08

  • Great foot work.

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT lol my parents first introduced me to Tacos music when they played it the whole time on a road trip.(: I actually didn't mind it. In fact it was good enough to the point where I looked it up on YouTube years later.lol

  • @maxb89321 Well, that's the way it should be :) By now Taco's already has the third generation of fans!

  • This was part of our show in band this year and I just LOVE this song.!!(:

  • @babanachiket and @cmmr26

I will tell Taco about your nice comments :)

    Roland - Taco's manager

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT Thanks :-)

  • Some day I'll dancve a 'Klingon' version of this song and dance. Its one of the few songs that features a cane as part of the dancing.

    - The Music Loving Klingon

  • a song where charm and sex appeal conveyed in the same video without fancy dance or rap... such a charm...

  • How I love this song and this performance... great.. greetings from Colombia Taco!

  • 75 people got kicked out of the Ritz.

  • ahh, the 80s. where lip synching started

  • @nigellax yeah but this isnt whre it started

  • @darktrainfilms You are welcome! Besides Taco always made jokes about his first name. When we met the first time in 1983, he said: "I'm Taco but don't take me for a tortilla" :)

@robs104 One of my many tasks....and thanks for your kind comment :)

    Roland - Taco's manager

  • Of all the names to have, "Taco" was the best he could come up with? DIg this version of the track still. :D

  • @darktrainfilms His full name is TACO Ockerse. He was born in Jakarta/Indonesia and is from the Netherlands, where Taco is a common first name.

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT Ok. I was not aware of that. Thanks! :D

  • love the "super duper" part...LOL it's awesome

  • This takes me back to highschool. :)

  • 75 ppl didnt put on the ritz

  • I heard this one day at a pizza hut.

  • This is a song I will never get tired of specifically Taco's version it's just so awesome I don't know how people can seriously not like this

  • @gloocoza Thanks for your comment but tastes differ :)

    Roland - Taco's manager

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT It is so refreshing to see the presence of someone who actually knows/works for the artist commenting on the videos. I wish you and Mr. Ockerse continued success!

  • He resembles Tim Curry as seen in The Rocky Horror Picture so much!

  • @fslayer1290 Taco saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show not until some years later. In fact, it was the actor Joel Grey in the musical film Cabaret (1972) who inspired him as far as the video was concerned.

    Roland - Taco's manager

  • @fslayer1290 There's a mental image. Now I'm picturing Dr. Frank-N-Furter singing and dancing in Taco's place. Funny thing is that it could very well work.

  • @xwingx1gt The main reason could be the fact, that there is a slight resemblance to Tim Curry, though TC was/and still is much older :)

    Roland - Taco's manager

  • Oldie but classic !!!!!

  • best. song. evar.

  • @dobro14811902 :)))

  • i got so scared watching this, i think i just shat my pantsss/:

  • @dobro14811902 That's your opinion, but what really counts is the following. Before Irving Berlin passed away in 1989, he stated that he liked Taco's version of his song the most of all of them, which was a pretty impressive compliment by one of the greatest songwriters of all time :)

    Roland - Taco's manager

  • I can't hear this song without thinking of Young Frankenstein.

  • Best. Song. Ever.

  • this is our tap song. lol! (not this version tho)

  • put it on the ritz !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This man is amazing. Do not make fun of him ever. I wish this man was my father

  • @RobAVio95 :)))

  • I'm not usually a big fan of remakes of old classics, but I actually like this remake. My only complaint us that the dancers are horribly out of sync. But maybe that's just the ballerina in me talking.

  • Comment removed

  • @peetey897 You are perfectly right, because it was one of numerous TV appearances, Taco had to do with dancers he met for the very first time :)

  • @MollyTriplett Our cooperation started in 1983, when I booked him for a disco tour in my home country Austria, which was an awesome roller coaster ride :) Years later I became his manager. Furthermore I am his webdesigner and webmaster, by what he is ever-present on the web. As a result I know how incredible many fans (visitors from 133 countries!) he still has in the US and Canada as well as around the world!

    Roland
