  • LOOOOOL THIS IS ACTUALLY IN THE MENTAL PEOPLE SECTION xD

  • I was there. Still get teary eyed watching it. Thanks so much for doing quality video for it. It's also in the concert film of him that came out last year.

  • sorry... lost his voice years before this song... better the memory...

  • well, that was good.

  • Yay for French Canadian Jews!

  • love this song so much...I was so lucky to have been right in front when he performed this song at Coachella last year...Silversun Pickups played right after he finished...so far one of the best nights of my life!

  • I was walking by when I heard this song :D Everyone singing together, it was so great.

  • OMG I have found him hot! Love that voice and the song!!!!

  • hi..uhmmm, like..excuse me...but who's funeral is this? like....uhmm, thanks.

  • @elsoda i wish it was yours because you clearly cant appreciate anything good in life if you dont like this

  • this is definatley the best version of the song no cover will ever be this good they all lack emotion in comparision to this.

  • there are only a handful of great song writers and dylan comes first with his albums upto the 1970's, then a mixture of cohen take all his albums and j mitchell with Blue/Ladies of the... Bob Marley, Martin Gore, Anthony and the Js etc,

  • This is a wonderful video, but it STILL doesnt do it justice.

Thats not a snipe at the video BTW, its a testament to how amazing it was just being there.

80,000 peeps signing this chorus was something else

  • Can't agree more. Without a doubt the highlight of Coachella for me. Still brings tears to my eyes just watching the video

  • U luv this song, but others i get a bit bored by but this songs minttt. a real hero. (x

  • bummed i had to miss this =( i was front row for paul though.. i cant say i'd change anything but still a bummer that i had to choose between the two

  • I agree... Leonard Cohen is God!

  • I have close-up footage of this in high definition. Check it out. Leonard is the man!

  • One of the greatest poet, singer and songwriter ever. Simply amazing! Leonard Cohen is god.

  • Looks like the old man still has it. Good for you L. Cohen.

  • Incrivel :D

  • It sounded to me like Cohen got a more lengthy ovation after every song than any other artist I saw on Friday or Saturday.

  • That's it !! In fact it's ranked the No. 1 performance in Coachella 2009, above McCartney, Morrisey and TV on the Radio

  • For me McCartney was number 1 but cohen for sure second.

  • Same here, I mean come on, thousands of people singing that famous "Naaaaaaaaa naaaa naaa na na na naaaaaaaaa" together? It was a life experience.

  • great video, nothing like it was live, but probably as close as any video will get

  • Agreed fellow boardie, an amazing moment that can't be captured....

  • I drove 10 1/2 hours to see this man last Friday. I experienced a bit of heaven. A major dream realized in my life. Thank you Leonard Cohen for touring again! You are the man!

  • then do us a favor & kill yourself, please....

  • I got the same song from the front row, if you want to get to see Cohen clearly, take a look at my vid!

  • I think that most of the people posting here and at this performance wouldn't know about this song unless it was for Buckley or Wainright.

I love Cohen's version personally, butI am more partial to Buckley's (my favoriote). Wainright? Eh, copying Buckley, and not very well. Cohen's lyrics are astounding though, to say the very, very least. Brilliant musician.

  • ahahaha, people think this is a cover?

  • HAHA this is not a cover... buckleys version was great though....I was here this then mccartney simply amazing

  • you sir are an idiot.

  • Hey dummy, this is a Leonard Cohen song. He wrote it and released it in 1984. Jeff Buckley covered it in 1994 for his album Grace.

  • LOL @ people that think this is a cover

  • no, Leonard wrote this song.

  • Please do some research before stating false information.

Jeff Buckley covered Leonard Cohen, and from what I understand, Jeff Buckley's version is a stripped down (but not necessariliy bad) version of Cohen's original.

  • @magmazing Absolutely. It horrible how many people think Buckley did the original. It's by no means a bad cover, but Cohen's version will always be the best.

  • 74 years old and still rocking coachella was truly amazing, this was a highlight of the first night.

  • that was my favorite concert at coachella he is the best ever

  • Possibly the greatest Coachella moment ever.

  • Can someone get Leonard Cohen to just read the dictionary in front of a microphone? That audiobook would stomp all over Dreams of my Father.

  • Thank you for posting!! I didn't have a video camera and was hoping someone would. Terrific. Cohen and McCartney were the highlights of the festival (IMHO)

  • I feel exactly the same way. I went to see Leonard, Paul, DBT, and Booker T.

The McCartney show was beyond belief! He did two sets of encores, for God's sake!

I will never doubt the power of a Beatle again!

  • Leonard Cohen singing his Hallelujah!

    He still sounds great....

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you for this wonderfull clip. Its a great singer.

  • This was amazing live

  • Help! - a special performance and a great video - thanks! - but now the video has disappeared ...

    Please bring it back soon!!!

  • Listening to such a line as," All i ever learned from love is how to shoot at someone who outdrew ya." ,brings home to me the power of poetry. That is so evocative .

  • I've been to almost all of the Coachellas through the years. This one ranks as one of the best if not the best night I've seen. Leonard Cohen had a lot to do with it!!

  • stunnishing....half stunning, half astonishing. i made this word. :P

i use it everyday (if im lucky)

  • SIR. Leonard fckg Cohen

  • That's just stunning.

  • The MOST respectable musician of all time!!!! Brilliant singer! Thanks so much for this clip

  • amazing

  • no one on planet earth comes close to this divine poet/artist.

you think this is great? you should have seen him at the nokia

    in la. mind blowing!!!!!

  • I was there at the Nokia on Friday night. 'Divine' I think is the right word. When I hear him sing I think of words like 'sacred', 'holy'...no one else comes close to this man. No one.

  • Nice Work. Ill be doing some posting on Sunday...

  • thanks, that was amazing

  • what kind of camera were you using? very impressive work.

  • Thanks. I use a Canon Elura 65 MiniDV camcorder and a Rode VideoMic.

  • I'm going on Sunday and I'm debating if I should bring my Nikon D40 SLR camera. Are they very strict on their policy about bringing in SLR cameras? How did you bring in your recording device? I would greatly appreciate your input since you were already there. Thank you so much!

  • If you can find a way to hide your SLR well and get a lazy security person when you first some in, you can get just about anything into the venue. But just know that if they find/notice your SLR you won't be let in.
