Would you please help me decide which model is the best? I Just need the better of the two. Which one would have the best performance, and graphics for entertainment , schooling and other uses? The Gateway® NV79C51u or the Gateway® P-7815u FX Edition?
The P-Series laptops will outperform the NV series, but they're heavier, bigger and have a fraction of the battery life. -- What kind of price-range are you looking for?
@gadgettts I am willing to spend as much as money as I need to (considering it is under $1000). I don't know much about computers so I thought that the NV79C51u was better because it has a larger screen, same amount of Ram, hardrive space, and it also has A blueray player ... Thats why I asked for your advice... Is there a specific reason for why the Gateway® P-7815u FX will out perform the Gateway® NV79C51u?
Actually, if your budget is under $1000... then you're not going to want to look at the FX series, as those are probably pretty close to EOL. You're going to want to take a look at a Core i5 powered laptop with an NVIDIA graphics chipset and Optimus technology. (Core i7 laptops are nice, but suck up power way too quickly.)
Check back in a few days... I'm posting a review of the Acer AS5745G... might be close to what you're looking for.
If you're just looking for performance and you're measuring near-priced Phenom II and i5 CPUs, then I personally find the AMD part to hold the edge. However... remember that the Phenom pulls almost twice as much power as the Intel part and certain multimedia programs will utilize the i5's two cores better than AMD's three.
Hi there, I'm not very much into games, maybe RPG's at the most, and very small FPS, but I am not a big gamer. I'm a really big programmer, I need to be able to run screen recorders very smoothly, video editing, a nice video card for 3D design, and that's about it. Will this laptop fulfill those needs? Thanks.
Depends... What suite do you use for editing video? What kind of video. If it's SD DV source material, this will work fine. If you're doing HD AVCDH files, you're going to want an Intel equipped NV or higher.
Yes it is... I know that most people like the bright colors of a glossy screen, but I always preferred the anti-glare properties of a matte display. :(
I just ordered this laptop from TigerDirect! Although it was a refurb. Hopefully most of the features you describe here work as efficiently in the refurb. It looks like a really good investment/deal for my very first laptop. I'm a college student so I think it fits me perfectly. Thanks for the review! Very professional and high-quality. Great commentary!
I didn't know the Catholic church did videos like this. Pleased to see and meet you. Oh and I have one of these NVs, but it is one of the 17 inch behemoths. LOL! I had always wanted a 17 inch lappy. I really love it though. It does quite well.
Father, this is one of the absolute best reviews on a product I have seen on this website. It covered everything, and I mean everything I needed and wanted to know about this laptop.
Thank you for such a professional review and for taking time off and making this.
I hope you don't mind if I just ask a few questions.
How do you rate it overall? On a scale of 1-10.
How's the sound with headphones? I am a DJ and I fell in love with this since it has Dolby Sound.
I don't have the unit anymore (I send them back after I'm done with the review) but as I recall, I was jamming out with the NV on a set of noise canceling ATs. The sound was clean at mid to high volumes and VERY rich across the scale.
HOWEVER, like all integrated sound, you WILL get some noise coming out of it at very low volumes. Unfortunately the only real way to avoid that problem is to get a dedicated pro-level sound board.
This review covered EVERYTHING I wanted to know about this laptop..
Father, you are an awesome reviewer.
Nice to see people actually doing reviews that know what they are talking about, and not a 12 year old talking about his new present. (Not to sound rude)
Well, you certainly deserve 5 stars for this video.
Thankfully this was the first video about this laptop that I looked at.
But, may I ask a question?
How would you rate it overall.
How's the Dolby Second Generation Sound since I am a Dj.
This laptop has a 15" screen and this review was from 5 months ago.
Furthermore, if you had actually watched the review, you would know that I was describing a mid-range notebook that was a balance between size, performance, screen size and affordability.
i have this..ive played mw2.just put everything on low and it runs like a beaute, ive played san andreas, call of duty 4, spore, runs amazing, left 4 dead.
Ahhhh... I love the smell of a conspiracy theorist temporarily visiting reality. Enjoy your stay, however brief, and be sure to keep looking for the black helicopters.
im watching this clip with the gateway nv5370h its a pretty good laptop =) you can easely play games like left for dead on medium settings =D this and crysis on low settings =D this laptop rocks
My review should speak for itself. I have no incentive to lie or to be their marketing arm. This notebook is good for those who want a small, budget-oriented notebook with mid-range power. If you're looking for an ultra-light or a gaming-rig, this isn't for you.
As for the "Gateway Sucks" remarks. You could pretty much find somebody to say that about EVERY company. My personal experience with Gateway notebooks over the past two years has been positive.
Because of experience, I realized that most companies will advertise "320GB" but then to find out that the companies really put like 300GB and round it up to 320GB. How much GB of hard drive does this thing really have on this one? space is important to me.
The size discrepancy isn't because companies are being dishonest or rounding.
Manufacturers report capacities based on "1 Kilobyte=1000 bytes". Unfortunately the byte is Base2 (i.e. 1 byte = 2^3 bits) and therefore, 1 KB isn't 1000 bytes, but rather, 1024 bytes. There is a discrepancy because the drive size is advertised in Base10, but the OS reports space in Base2.
This notebook has a 320GB drive, that will show up as just over 300GB in Windows.
I have to ask, what in the world is around your waist? Looks like a really thick belt, the top of weirdly colored sweat pants or, no joke, a dress. Gota ask, drove me nuts the whole way through the video.
Quite perceptive! I was wondering why nobody else had picked up on it. (I mean seriously... I get guys writing in to complain about lint on my shirt -- This should have been the equivalent of a blinking neon sign!)
Anyway, it's called a "Malong" and it's a traditional Filipino wrap (like a Sarong) that can be worn around the waist. -- I know it looks dorky, but every once in a while I like to represent!
