Back when young people really did have something to say. What an original she was. I get depressed seeing the boring materialistic teens of today texting away like drones.
@vordman That's quite a broad generalization of my generation, & not an entirely accurate depiction of youth today. I know a lot of kids that are not at all like that.
@vordman Wow. You are talking exactly the same way that old whiny people talked about Polly and my generation at the time. Only they were reminiscing about Bobby Darin or some such crooner. I bet you cant find a recording of Polly being interviewed by Jimmy Saville on his radio show in the 70's. When he asked her a question, all she would say is " I don't know, I'm plastic" blows away your really having something to say. She is and was the greatest and Germfree is one of the greatest ever.
Just saw the X-Ray Spex CD---I'm snatching it up first chance I get--had the cassette back in the day and played the hell out of it, because I liked ALL the songs on it. A lot of what the group was singing about--how the emphasis on consumerism and capitalism has taken over people's lives and how we emphasize artificiality over everything to the point where it's difficult to know who your or anybody's else's real self is---songs like IDENTITY & AGE, for example--is even more true now than then.
Yeah, it's a shame she passed on, just as she had finished her most recent album. I had already told myself I'd better hunt down Germ-Free Adolescents because I loved the hell out of it, and I'm still going to! R.I.P., Ms. Poly Styrene!

30+ years later and what Poly is saying in this interview makes more sense than what people are saying now.
