I own one of these and like it alot. I have not had any trouble with it at all. I keep it in my home and take it out and shoot some. I have not had any trouble with it. I shoot mostly winchester through it. It is my first large caliber pistol so the trigger pull does not bother me.
The reason people Rip on the sigma is because the price is low. People compare it to the Glock, Glock owners take offense that people compare their $600 or so gun to a $300 gun. Over the years Glock owners have talked down the sigma to the point that it is known as a "garbage" gun. I have put 4000 rounds of many kinds of ammo through mine and in doing so, I trust my life to the Sigma. Not a garbage or junk gun, VERY reliable and fun to shoot. Stop hating you snub fuck Glock suckers.
@biggunguy1 only problem I have is the pin that links the firing block and the trigger link works out but a dab of super works great do they make a houge grip for them??
@cr76802 I'm not positive but I think they do but if you pay close attention to the close up of the gun in the video I have a pachmyer grip on mine just to make it a little bigger for my big hands and I love it!
@HYBRIDCOMBATIVES Why? Just saying to ditch the Sigma and get the M&P without offering any reason why just makes you sound like a gun snob. The only "bad" thing I've heard or read about the Sigma is the trigger pull being heavy. I personally own one and it works fantastic and is as accurate as I am. Plenty of people have posted here and other Sigma reviews how much they love it. So, why should anyone get the M&P? What specific reasons do you have for that statement? Just wondering.
@cmcollins001 Without being an asshole you may want to look into the S&W SD series. Not as "tacticool" as the M&P and is more closely related to an evolved sigma. THey are really well built and in the same vein and price range as the sigma.
@HYBRIDCOMBATIVES I appreciate the info. I'm looking into it now. I do want to say that I recently went looking at the M&P, very nice. I'm probably going to pick one up soon. I agree the M&P feels (and looks) better than the sigma, however, I'm still happy with my sigma. Several hundred rounds through it with no issues, so I can't say anything bad about it. I'm just tired of people posting that it's junk that have never owned one, let alone, shot one and just repeat what someone else said.
@cmcollins001 You'll love it. Actually I am a convert. For the last 20 years I have HATED S&W autos because of their shady reliability issues. The sigma in the mid 90's was the laughing stock of tactical firearms. I have been a Glock dude (and 1911 go figure) since the 90's, but then the M&P came out and completely changed my mind about S&W's capability (as far as the M&P is considered). I believe it is the finest polymer framed pistol on the market today. The SD-9 is also one helluva pistol.
@HYBRIDCOMBATIVES The SD model maintains similar lines to the sigma with a reworked action and parts. It is all around better, cleaner, tighter and utterly reliable. Not as many bells and whistles as the M&P, but for an entry level defensive firearm it is top notch. It feels better in the hand than the Ruger SR-9 or the Glock 17. Not as "tactical" or as accessorized as the M&P but a great handgun.
@HYBRIDCOMBATIVES I like the sigma and the only difference I can see is the trigger, Since I just did a trigger fix on mine why pay more money for something that I already basically have??
@biggunguy1 The only similarity is that the frame contains polymer. That is where it stops. If you have to ask, it isnt worth debating. No serious professional would consider the sigma.
@biggunguy1 The sigma is considered a junk gun in the professional world. Wont see it in competition or in law enforcement for a reason. It has a terrible track record. This is not a secret.
What would you reccomend between the S&W 9mm or S&W .40 and why. I'm currently looking to purchase a gun for home protection and I've shot rifles all my life. NEVER a handgun, so I'm forced to seek outside opinions. Thanks!
@ThatDayumWood979 The .40 has more recoil than a 9mm and ammo is more expensive for the .40 but the .40 has more stopping power so it depends what you want it for home protection or just fun shooting at the range.
I have one of these I bought last year for $299 at gander mtn, I carry it everywhere. It's light, comfortable, and flawless. Everyone whines about them but no shit, my girlfriend ran a few mags through it a couple months ago and is a WAY better shot than I am, first time she ever pulled a trigger in her life and knocked a beer can off at 40 yards.. Excellent beginner gun!
@Darinp87 Yep I am posting a vid right now of my teenage daughter shooting this gun for the first time and she did very well, and it was her first time to the range in her life!!!
late one night I found a website with a 22rd magazine, for the S&W sigma 40 ve I didn't write it down and haven't been able to find it again. If I do I will pass it along.........
I bought one used last year for $250, put well over 1000rds without one failure. I use it as my carry weapon, alot lighter than my hi point lol! I find the trigger the same as my .357 magnum so im used to it I guess. But these are great guns!!
@slyirish17 Yep I agree and everybody says it is so easy to lighten the trigger and thats the only comlaint I have ever heard about them so why not get one??
I love mine and I see no real reason to replace it with another gun. I carry it conceal fairly easily at 5'10 205lbs. The trigger pull was horrible at first but a few youtube videos later and a $4 striker spring from Gander MTN, I love it. I reduced the pull from 12lbs to 7.5lbs. I can make it lighter but I don't want to.
@biggunguy1 Ask for the 3 and a half pound striker spring for the Sigma at the gunsmith window. It costs about 4 dollars. You can get it for 3 dollars online but you have to pay $2 for shipping. The stock strikers spring is about 6lbs. Remove the pigtail spring from behind the trigger and that knocks it down another 3lbs.
@MrRgpor754 Not bad in fact I just took my 15 year old daughter to the range today and had her shoot it and she had no problems and in fact she shot it very well and it was her first time ever shooting any gun, I will post that vid real soon!!!
The trigger is easily improved as well. there is a Youtube video on how to remove a small pigtail spring. DId it on mine and the trigger is much better now. I think this is an excellent pistol.
I only removed the pigtail spring, but this guy makes other changes as well. I could not find the original video that I used, but this guy's vid does a nice job as well to show the fix. It is pretty easy to do. I would just removed the pigtail and see if you like it at that point. I don't like changing too many things at once. good luck!
Just bought mine last week. It is in gun jail for the ten days now per the rules here in the Peoplez Republik Of Kaliphornia. Can't wait to try it out
@bigphreaking Yeah its a great gun you are gonna love it you just gotta get used to the trigger or get a trigger job done on it. Too bad you have to wait so lonfg to get it.
I had that gun and I was in the group of people that did not like the 10.5 pound trigger pull. My nephew who is in law enforcement has one and he says that the trigger pull does not bother him either. Other than that it is a nice gun.

we ported the barrel and did the trigger job to it.
This is my daily carry and I don't feel the need to spend hundreds of dollar extra on something else.
on a side note, we own a custom firearm business so I do shoot a nice selection of guns, and for the price, you can't go wrong with the Sigmas.

I've had mine for two years now- I can't say enough for the SW40VE with 1,500 rounds of everything, I have yet to have a single failure.
For the trigger- I have always shot revolvers so the trigger pull was nothing new. Train well with it and anyone can compensate for a heavy trigger.
