@89kawa It's mounted the same as the stock exhaust except there's an additional hanger on the right side since the v6 only had one on the left from the factory.
I'm putting an SLP Loudmouth exhaust, 4:10 gears, and a B&M Megashifter. I have a friend who suggest Comp Cams GT1 which was like 300. But what else do I need?
@MajesticProductions1 For some of the valvetrain components, you don't NEED to upgrade or replace them, but it's a good idea to if your motor has a good amount of miles on it or if you have a very aggressive cam. For a GT1 cam, I'd definitely get stronger valve springs and hardened pushrods. If your motor has over 75,000 miles (which it likely does) I'd get retainers and lifters as well just to be safe.
@MajesticProductions1 I honestly don't know. I don't know what the "installation kit" entails. If you're doing it yourself aside from essentials, you'll need upper and lower intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, a torque wrench, torx bits, plenty of ratchet wrenches and sockets of varying sizes,10 quarts of oil (once you finish put 5 in, run it for a few minutes [don't freak out if it's noisy, and smokey at first] then change the oil again once the noise and smoke stops), and a big bag of patience.
How much did it cost you to do the cams? I saw your video and I'm buying an SLP Loudmouth I have an 02 Firebird. I want to cam it but idk what i need and how much it will cost
@MajesticProductions1 The cam itself was only about $300, but for all of the beefed up valvetrain (valvesprings, retainers, hardened push rods, etc) and a few tools to aid my installation it was about a grand (I installed it myself). It's a custom grind cam from comp cams (218/218 .528/.528 112LSA).
Headers, no cat, borla exhaust (3"), 4.10 gears, and a cam (and the valvetrain to support it). There's a bunch of other little mods too (msd wires, aluminum driveshaft, springs, lcas, lca relocation brackets, things like that) but those are the significant ones.
I'd rather be legal and avoid the smog Nazis. I know someone who did gut their cat and said they noticed a difference, though. I just know my luck would fail. LOL!
What state is that.. I live in South Carolina and we have no inspection every car I own that isnt OBDII computer controlled has been missing its CATS..
Nice! I've got a V6 Camaro with a cam and head work done. I'll be throwing on some headers, new cat, and cat-back system real soon. Hopefully, it'll be sounding near as good.
borla is a big improvement best sounding v6 camaro i have heard not it has that low end it was missing nice job. soo ill put up new vids of my stang w/ the mac exaust if u wanna check that out in a few days :)
For the cam, all the valvetrain stuff and any extra tools that I needed to install it ended up being just about a grand. I have a custom gring cam from comp cams (218/218 .528/.528 112LSA)

Too raspy at rev. -- likely due to lack of cat.
Libertyforall1776 2 years ago
Listen to the driving vid, rasp isn't there :)
99v6cam 2 years ago
haha its because its a v6
8thcylinder 2 years ago
So is the CAT on or off?
Libertyforall1776 2 years ago
Off
99v6cam 2 years ago
Well THAT is the reason it sounds so raspy -- not just because it's a V6...

Why waste money on a new cat when you can just gut the stock cat?
