David Lee Roth and Steve Vai wrote this song in honor of the centennial and reopening of the Statue Of Liberty in 1986.  The New York rock stations played it all the time back then.

The statue was closed to the public immediately after the September 11 attacks. Liberty Island reopened at the end of 2001, but the pedestal and statue remained off-limits. The statue closed on October 29, 2011 for renovations. The statue is closed to the public for up to a year but Liberty Island remains open.

@emidore Also when you think about it, "Eat 'Em and Smile" pound for pound had better songwriting. There were about 2 or 3 songs on it that were weak and "5150" only had about 3 decent songs on it at all. It is a shame Roth could not keep up with this track record. "Skyscraper" was almost as bad as Van Hagar with no Billy Sheean and yucky keyboards that we thought he was supposed to be getting away from.

It is a shame Roth's career went downhill after "Skyscraper". The departures of guitar player Steve Vai and bass player Billy Sheehan probably had a lot to do with that. Roth's early backing band of Vai, Sheehan and drummer Gregg Bissonette was a supergroup for people who read musician magazines.
