  • My Mum grew up in Sheffield, once on a while we used to go there and visit her family when I was a young child. The place was the centre of steel manufacturing in England at the time and very grimy and smoky. I know this was written about Salford but it fits how Sheffield used to be,

  • @claytonave I thought it was newark NJ

  • @7mikethebike Look up the Ewan MaColl version. He wrote it about Salford, his home town. But it could fit Newark, Birmingham UK or many others . Be well

  • I´m a spainiard drunken musician that lived in dublin time ago and still got (a few) beatiful memories of Irishs people, my great new zelan punk friends Francis & Rebbeca , Oscar from Toledo...Paddy, Guinness, and Irish fantastic music. So I have to say thank to Ireland, viva España y viva todo la gente vasca libre del yugo fascista y terrorista de la Puta Eta. That´s my point of view, and I thik it´s sad but true..I say fuck Eta again ..viva la libertad .

  • Bless Paddy himself. Good man, that.

  • Great copy, thanks for posting!

  • Ewan McColl came to sing this song ( about Manchester ) at a Mezzanine Concert at Birmingham University in 1965. Three years later, the Blue Nile Club, in Moss Side, a run-down Manchester suburb of terrace houses, became a major reggae centre.

Over a century before, Manchester workers had become so famous both for their folk music and for their anti-slavery sentiment, that Engels helped to found modern sociology, in a book about them The Museum of Labour History there should stop wanking.

  • Ewan MacColl wrote the song (born in Salford, Lancs, England)
