Wow. I'm in high school and we don't sound as good as you do, as a middle school band on a seventh grade level. This is embarrassing. I need to go to a school where the kids actually care about music.OTL
This song isn't really that hard guys, there isn't an excuse for sounding like this. We play this for a warm-up song for our 9th grade class, and please tune a lil better.
i also played this is a 7th/8th grade band. we had two days to learn it (it was honor band). you guys did a pretty good job at it, though out of tune in some places. as someone else who played it in junior high, i give you kudos.
you did very well but you do have some problems in the pitch. i played this in 6th grade with 7th, 8th, and 9th graders for band camp. it was a blast! don't pay attention to any of the rude comments and always try your best
My band played that song. I'm a trumpet. All I have to say I work on getting the triple G in tune and the ending will be perfect. Nice clarinet solo btw.
@drew0493 well i have to say one thing just a critic nothing personal but at the catalysm (how ever you spell it, with all that percussion and creepy sounds) the percussion was too loud couldn't hear any other instruments.
@Gatorsfan10 *rolls eyes* Um, 7th graders, not obviously gonna play as well as you. Geez. And I'm 15, by the way, so I know what I'm talking about. Wouldja mind being kinda...ya know....respectful of younger players? I don't know where you live, but here in the Springdale School Districts, we're taught to respect other bands, even if we're better than them. Try being nice for once? Yeah, thanks.
you guys kinda go too fast in this song. and your reed instruments need to be tuned. if the a.p. band of sf gets taped tomorrow, ill post it and you shall hear how we play. we are kinda of smoother. i think its nice other than that though. keep up the good work.
there is nothing wrong with the band directors tempo. the snare drummer absolutely takes off extremely fast and it's almost like they weren't even paying attention. that was my main issue...then again i am a percussionist and that's my main focus. haha not a bad performance by any means though.
it has to do with mount st. helens (maybe?) errupting, and a lot of people died. we played this for all star band and the director read the notes from it to us.
You're right. It is about the erruption of Mt. St. Helens.
I love this song personally and you guys did very well. My high school wind ensemble is playing this tomorrow for ratings actually and I can't wait to play this peace. ^^
is this a concert? I think that your school (if you go there) show have a uniform of any sort, because it makes the band look more professional. Even the same T-shirt and like black pants would make a difference
We are playing this at our festival and this is the worst i have heard this played.. its not musical.. didnt take retards didnt do cres. or decresends.. need to be more muscial and slower.. sorry but horrible!
So thanks for the negative comments but i'm sorry if u cant handle the truth.. if u go to a band festival they are going to tell u worse than i did and our abdn made straight one and a's on of festival..vso just take the advice.. :)
Horrible, that was just a horrible sort of comment. They did really well in fact, I'm pretty sure almost better then my small band....
And it's CRESCENDO OR DECRESCENDO.
They performed this piece really well!
Just cuz you got straight A's doesn't necessarily mean they can't, I mean, I'm pretty sure your a minor in music still that you don't have the right to judge other bands cuz of what you got.
I have to disagree. Out of all the ones posted on youtube this is the best. My only advice to the band would be to listen to each other so you're all hitting the notes at the same time. Work together. But for the most part you were REALLY good for a middle school band. =)
We played this much slower. From my experience with this piece, I think that the trills in the Cataclysm (I believe that where they are; before Void at least) weren't coming through enough and the dynamics could be far more dramatic. Also, the accents in the coda need more emphasis. But for an eighth grade band, this is pretty good.
I just played this last night for the fall concert. You guys played it awesome. The percussion was a little loud during the eruption but it was awesome! =D
I played this song at my school, it was HARD but FUN. We had a great time playing it. But we only had two percussionist but they did an awesome job! We actually worked on this for about a year. But we did an awesome job for the Spring concert, everyone was absolutely shocked by it, although in that silence bfor the eruption thingy, someone was clapping and someone said "Wow" after that loud burst of instruments. Either way, u guys did good and we did good. I like this song!
The percussion is a bit too loud throughout and overpower the woodwinds during the cool trilled sounds at the eruption. The brass is gross at the outro and need more dynamics throughout. Also, more cowbell... jk
This is such a fun piece, I also played this in 8th grade at All-Region and then band camp one year. I don't think this is too fast at all! Brings back memories to hear this again...you guys sound great.
Played this song at All-Region band as well when I was in 8th grade when I lived in Corpus Christi, 1992 I think, many moons ago, but gab1279 is right, its a very fun piece, yawl played it well! as for the tempo, you cant help that your director was on speed! (cause damn she was flappin dem wings so fast she almost got airborne!)
We played this song when I was in eighth grade too. You play it the same tempo I remember our director conducting us, so don't feel too bad about these jerks. :) Great job! This is an amazing song, it won us several competitions.
im getting really sick of people saying we played it too fast. even if we did play it too fast we still rocked at it. we played it that fast because we were good enough to play it that fast. we were only in 8th grade and we still did an awesome job. great job everyone in this video, dont worry about what everyone said because we did do awesome and we only did what Mrs. Renoylds said and went her tempo. We did amazing!!!
By going to fast, they mean that there is a tempo that the song is supposed to go. If Mrs. Renyolds told you guys to go that fast, then it is her fault.
really good preformence! but i have some comments, again, it's just my opnion so. at the measure 13, the trumpet needs to play out. the precussion is a little loud, it might sound fine in a smaller room, but when it's on a stage or something, it really reverbs. measure 160 and after is a little messy. but over all a good job
we played this song for our spring concert, and it was my second favorite that we played, but our director said it was about the Mt. St. Helens eruption tho and it's kinda obvious because it says "vistas" then "warning" then "cataclysm" then void then "renewal".
for 7th graders thats amazing im just learning the song in 8th grade and we sound horrible

Not bad for a bunch of 7th graders! We'll be playing this for our Spring Concert (I'm in honors band) and we can't wait :D

This will be my second time I get the chance to preform it. I'm 1st chair in concert band.
'Nuff said.
