  • OMG!!!!!! You helped me sooooo much! Thank you! You should try to do a penguin of some sort!

  • Thank you so very much!!! I had to thank you, I am relearning how to quill, I like the 1/8" paper, but when I would put the piece together the quilled portions sometimes popped up and down after glueing, So watching your technique has really helped! Thank you. You are so talented to do this without a pattern.

Do you do husking or the other type of quilling on the pronged tool? Your butterfly is gorgeous.

Oh i had to smile, i have the same counters in my home!

    blessings, grace in vt

  • PS from grace, I have a question, if you wanted to make a pin or earrings do you have to spray with something to make it firm, ? Poly spray? Or not?

i would love to make earrings for gifts....

    Also do you have patterns?

    bless you, grace

  • @Halalsilks you certainly can use a spray to make them more durable. I don't have earring patterns.

  • @Halalsilks I have tried husking but have not made a video. Do you know Alfardh on You Tube? She has a husking tutorial.

Thanks for watching, I really do enjoy hearing from new quillers

  • i love all of your videos ty for posting :)

  • @calichristy28 You are welcome, thanks for watching

  • thanks for helping. You make it seem much easier than it is

  • @missgreasedlightning Mastering the basic shapes does take some practice.

  • Wow! I thought quilling would be much more difficult, but you make it seem pretty easy! Thanks a lot, I loved it! Greetings from México!

  • @BishoJasso Quilling does take a bit of practice to master the basic shapes, but it is pretty easy to learn.

    Thanks for watching!

  • @Joy4F0OLs Thanks much!

  • You are definitely a jane of all trades! I followed some of your recipes but i didn't realize you did crafts too. I am elated!

  • @RubyRabbit87 I dabble in papercrafts, especially quilling.

  • thats ver pretty is the shiny surface a result of the glue ?

  • @sooouuuuper I'm not sure which shiny surface you are referring to? The glue does dry clear and a bit shiny

  • @yoyomax12 the butterfly seems to have like an shiny backing to it looks like cellophane or clear contact type of thing it might just be the glue drying clear or it might be my eyes lol lol lol

anywy its a beautiful butterfly ur very clever

  • @sooouuuuper Yes, anything shiny at the back would be the dried glue!

    Thanks!

  • you have inspired me to do quilling and now i feel like pro !

  • @daniqua11 Excellent!

  • Beautiful butterfly!

  • @craftybegonia Thank-you!

  • I don't get what these numbers like 4-4" mean. The first number is how many to make, what's the second numner? And i don't know, what 3/8 paper means

  • @Kagane1001 4-4" Is four, four inch long pieces of paper.

Quilling paper comes in different widths, 3/8 means three eighths of an inch wide.

  • one problem i live in a poor country and i cant find the paper can i cut the prinet one?

  • @mobradovic00 You can cut your own paper strips with scissors, it just takes a bit of time and patience.

  • @mobradovic00 you can use a shredder machine (it's a small investment, but it is very worthy)

  • brendasue4042@yahoo.com So beautiful!! Thank you for sharing!

  • @Brenner1960 Thanks!

  • fantastic! i'm gonna try this and when done will surely send you a picture!!

  • @ps4021 I would love to see a photo when you are done!

  • What use are the pins for, in this video clip?

I don't see them being of any use at all.

I love the butterfly though. Lovely work. 8)

  • @littlemissjaded12345 The pins are used to hold the pieces in the right place while the glue dries, especially when they have to be "pinched" together tightly.

This video is sped up many, many times so it looks like they aren't in for very long.

  • Ok, can you please sent me a picture. Thank you

  • @manros5225 If you want a photo send me your email address by going to my channel page, finding my website on the left side, clicking on the link and going to the website and using the "contact me" feature.

  • How can I get the instructions. I love your video

  • @manros5225 Send me your email address to yoyomax12 at symbol gmail with a dot and a com. I can't send you the instructions (because I don't have them) but I can email you a photo you can use as a reference.

  • I love your video. How can I get the instructions

  • I LOVE IT!!!! IM INSPIRED!!

  • @zuzy69 Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.

  • Love your glue bottle with the special head for detailed spot glueing!

  • @Louellamarierose I bought the needle tip for the glue bottle at "quilling superstore' (with a dot and a com) It really makes quilling a lot easier!

  • Hi yoyo.. great work thereand instructions too...

please check out my work "buddha" using quilling..

i would seriously likw your views on that..

  • how do u paste the "outline" together with the coils?

  • @Rienei I glue all the coils together (with white craft glue) in large sections. I then put glue on the exterior of the section and wrap the outline around and press it onto the coil section. Kind of hard to explain, sorry.

  • @yoyomax12 i re-watched it a few times and kinda got it. Tks =) nice work

  • Thanks Pheebs!

I love the speeded up stuff. It is a pain to edit but fun to watch.

  • that would be great! Thank you!

  • PM me your email address. :)

  • gorgeous!!!!

I wish I could do this.

  • Anyone can do this craft. It just take a little practice and a little patience.

    Thanks!

  • That butterfly is incredibly gorgeous!

    Great video!

    love you!

  • Love you too.

    :)

  • That is sooo beautiful

How long did it take for you to do it?

It would take me a long time :)

  • It took a couple of hours from start to finish. The longest part is measuring the paper and curling the strips. The assembly is actually fairly quick (well, not quite as quick as the video, that was 4X speed)

  • I found a new HUGE craft store near me.. that I've never heard of and never been to. It's almost the size of a Wal-Mart. I can't wait until I'm back up that way.. definitely going to have to stop in and get me some stuff for quilling. Walmart is lame and doesn't carry it.

    Beautiful butterfly, btw. :)

  • What's the craft store called?

If they have a nice quilling section you should tape it for me so I can see what's there.

  • It's called Garden Ridge "Crafts and More" but I was just told that they don't have much for crafts.. Hmm

  • Whooohoo! That is so cool. Wonderful to watch you create something so beautiful out of simple strips of paper - nothing but talent and artistic abilities between the beginning and the end result. Thank ou for sharing this with us.

  • Thanks Liz,

It just takes a little time and patience. The actual craft is very simple (as you saw).

  • Wow Tammy! That was just amazing to watch! You are so very talented with this quilling. You make it look so easy but I'm sure it isn't. WOW!!

  • The big secret Judy is that it IS easy. If people only knew how with just a little practice anyone can do this.

    Thanks!

  • your butterfly is beautiful!! I am going to try this one one some scrapbook pages!!!!

  • For scrapbooking I would use the 1/8" paper or smaller.

If you try it let us see!

  • It's very relaxing watching you do this...Thanx!

    ~Tammi~

  • You are very welcome.

Hey, you have a great name btw! ;)

  • Well thank you! (But I like YOUR"S better)

  • Hot Dog! I just checked out your other videos... and see that you're already turned onto tea bag folding! YAY!

  • That's lovely! Thank you for taking the time to explain how to make the shapes! I've been dabbling in quilling and iris folding for a little while and while I'm not good at it, I LOVE doing it! Thanks for sharing! (My newest obsession is tea bag folding... just wait, you'll see how addictive it is...) :o)

  • I also love teabag folding, but not as much as quilling. I have found a way to combine both on cards. Iris folding is another very nice craft. Have you seen that one?

  • Yes! I like that one too. I like anything that requires little details but not much skill. *Grins* I do stuff but I don't typically follow ALL the rules... I'm a rebel like that. Is there a way to e-mail you? I'll send you a pic of a mixed-bag of techniques ... Thanks!

  • WOW, very impressive Tammy! What beautiful work you do. I am always amazed what you make from paper strips!!

  • Thanks Barb,

The results are deceptively complicated looking but are so easy to do.

  • Awesome! Like I said before I have my kit and I did buy a nice book and some extra papers and other little kits to get me going. I am so excited, it has been funny working with it!

  • It is addictive! I keep buying more paper and have a huge stack of print-outs of different projects I found on line, not enough time for it all!

  • Thanks John!

Your comment got marked as spam somehow and now it won't let me un-spammify it.

  • WOW!!! O_O

  • Thanks Dan.

    :)

  • Simply amazing. I really do need to learn how to do this and carpal tunnel be damned. Maybe I could make an patent a carpal tunnel friendly quilling tool/machine that does the twirling/twisting motion automatically.

    Yeah, that's gonna happen ;)

Gorgeous butterfly!! I love that the creations you are making are basically limitless (magnets, cards, cute little Canadiaian boxes, etc) ;)

  • I suppose you could always adapt the tool to fit into the chuk of a cordless drill and that would turn things for you ;)

Is is the turning motion that would hurt?

Quilling is a very versatile craft because you can decorate almost anything with it.

I would like to get into the jewelry making part of it as well.

  • It's the repetition and the positioning of the hand that closes off the tunnel to impinge on the nerve. So anything that has repetitive movements I try to keep away from. The only thing is now even driving makes my hands occasionally go numb. I see a surgery in the not to far future.

  • Tammy!! That is amazing!! Very beautiful!!

    Have a great day!!

  • Thank you Eva!

  • Oh my gosh, that card was unbelievably gorgeous! The butterfly looked more purple than blue in it...awesome!

  • Ok, that does it. Next time I'm in town I'm getting quilling supplies.

Was that the butterfly that flew to Lori's house?

  • This particular butterfly has flown to England to see Twish1999. Lori's was very similar though.

  • That butterfly looks very familiar! I love mine so much! So much work involved in it, but you do make it look easy. I love these videos. Where do you get the glue? I got some paper strips and thougth I would try something really simple to start out with, what do you suggest?

    Lori :)

  • The glue is just plain old white elmer's glue in a fancy bottle with a needle tip. You can apply the glue with the end of a pin or a toothpick as well.

This particular butterfly is actually not the one I sent you, lol!

The one on the card is the one I sent to Beth. Yours was made the same way (but with narrower paper).

I suggest you make some simple daisy type flowers. there are some great library books and online tutorial how to's out there.

  • That is awesome! I'm going to try that myself.

  • If you want a photo of the butterfly I made, let me know. It will give you an idea of the sizes and placement of the pieces.

  • Tammy where do you get your glue and quilling tool from?

    Very beautiful work.

  • Tammy that is amazing. You are so very talented. I have not decided if I like quilling or not. My sausage fingers have a hard time with those strips. I have not got my quilling stuff out in a month or two. When I see you create something like this and it's so beautiful it inspires me though. Hugs girlfriend. I loved this video and I favorited it!

  • It is a bit of a rough go at the beginning until you get a little practice in. The trick is to start with small projects and work your way up. Thanks Melissa.

  • I am always amazed at what you can do with a few strips of paper and some glue!

  • I love paper crafts of all kinds. I am a paper fiend.

I'm planning on making some patio furniture and a hybrid car next. ;p

  • Tammy, you amaze me.

    That is lovley.

    Jessie

  • The results are deceptively complicated looking. The craft is really a very easy one!

    Thanks Jessie

  • Very very cool! I love it. The colors are great too. I am wondering, like Annie, how pretty a drangonfly would be, as well. What a pretty card!!! take care - jenn

  • I have seen some quilled dragonflies and I will try one someday.

I know that Beth and Cyndi (sewsweet08) really like them.

  • That is gorgeous. You are just so talented. You need to teach a class to us at south tube...lol.

  • We should all try it after a few of Lizzie's jello shots, could be interesting.

  • ooh thats great. i love butterflys. can you make a dragonfly?

i have quilling stuff, i got it a couple of years ago but never ended up starting. i must see if i can find it.

that will be a lovely fridgemagnet for everyone to admire.

    love it !

i am posting a vlog so standby lol

  • I have seen quilled dragonflies but I haven't made any yet.

I know someone who really likes them ;)

  • wow...this looks soooo pretty!!..

i love butterflys!...ur sooo talented tammy!

    take care

    annie x x

  • Thanks Annie!

I basically copied what I found on the internet. I don't have a lot of creativity when it comes to colours and such.

  • I just love watching you make things loike this Tammy! You have such takent! I do so muss doing some grafting and sewing stuff. I am praying so hard that I can find a way to at least still use my sewing machine after this tumor and such. Its going to be a long road and it is kinda depressing to not be able to do things I love! Those butterflies are lovely! HUGS xoxox

  • Dear Peggy,

It must be so hard to be limited by your vision! I really hope that they can make you better soon.

BTW I sent out a package for you with the item we discussed! I hope you like it.

  • Very pretty! I love how you put it with those flowers at the end. :)

    Emily

  • I made the card for a YTuber!

    Thanks Emily.

  • looks very interesting. I'd never have the patience for that. I tied it once with my grandma....FAIL!! lol

  • Your grandmother used to quill? Interesting, I never even heard of the craft until about a year ago.

Is she still alive? Do you have any of her work to show?

  • lovely!

    xoexo

  • Thank-you dear Eden

  • Cool butterfly!

    Really enjoyed your video.

    Loves,

    Mooz

  • Thanks Moomay!

Quilling is a very relaxing hobby.
