So sad to see this-hope they find the gene marker through research. Must be hard for you to intentionally create onset, but for the sake of others identifying what EIC is, this video is helpful. I have unaffected dogs-going to contact the study to give samples.
the dog is prone to bloat if you give it water when they are panting so much. The owner did the right thing, put the dog in cool water. See her episode #3. She would have caused more problems if she forced water to the dog.
I can't believe this idiot woman is deliberately inducing the dog's collapse, and there is NO WATER in the bowl. That is downright, deliberate cruelty.
After seeing this I know my pure 'Australian kelpie' has EIC. She acts just like this after short bursts of exercise. Do you just limit your dogs exercise to stop it?
My border collie suffers from this. We can't work her too hard especially in hot weather. She needs plenty to drink and has to be cooled down. I can generally tell when she's starting to do too much and can stop it before it gets to this stage.
Still waiting for the EIC test results. But what happens to him looks different from the labrador EIC vids I've looked at on here. His collapses seem to involve an element of overheating much like Allie's but it isn't weather dependent as his first occurred in winter. Like you I have just been limiting his exercise, particularly fetching ... don't know what else to do!
Hi, I am keen to know what you find out! My dog is (we think) a huntaway cross and soon after he turned 3 he had an episode during ball fetching which looks exactly like what you filmed Allie. (a huntaway is an unofficial breed bred for hill-country sheep herding here in New Zealand, and I believe includes border collie stock). He has had another episode and the vets haven't yet found any reason for them. We decided to get the genetic test for EIC done in case he has labrador genes on both sides

I also think that it is a little different from the labradors. My tervuren has the same collapse as Allie.
