  • From 2:00 to 2:15 I sit here with my fool mouth hanging open!

  • mint!! love it. this is a NORTHERN soul.

  • This is the most BEAUTIFUL Hollies song!!!!! *****

  • One of the best vocals ever on this track

  • This is a great song. The Hollies were and always will be amazing. The song was performed 27 years before I was born and these guys and their songs will always live on : )

  • EYE CANDY ALERT....CAN EVERYONE SAY YUMMY... (:-)

  • @kathykay2010 Me! I can!! YUM YUM YUMMMMY!!!!!

  • Heard the Song many times , but seeing them performing it is something else

  • Although Allan is one of the best singers of all time, I wish Terry had been lead singer more with the Hollies especially after Allan left. Terry was on fire here. Smokin hot and nobody looked better wearing a choker!

  • What A Great Share & Post!!! Thankyou Gary....Anita..:)

  • In my opinion the greatest tune from the vast hit catalogue of one of the greatest bands of any generation.

  • grew up on the hollies.what a group, dont make them like this no more.

  • The Best.

  • The whole band is beautiful- I love them all! What great singing and playing! I think in this clip Terry is extra special cute yeah! Thanks for posting.

  • I photographed the Hollies in 1977 in Canada. To see the shots go to ianmarkmusicphotos (.com)

  • Terry Sylvester should have sang more lead vocals when Allen Clark left the band in 71!

  • @eaglewheels1995 I know, right? He should have just replaced him altogether during that short period. Didn't like the other lead singer...his voice was good, but it didn't gel with the Hollies.

  • I was 7 years old and 40 years later I still LOVE this song !

  • I don't know why, but sometimes a song just resonates, my father showed me this song and I know I will love it forever. It's nostalgic for me even though it's from his youth.

  • jedna z najlepszych piosenek the Hollies jakie znam - chyba tylko long cool woman moze się z nią równać

  • The Hollies are 2010 Inductees in the RRHOF, along with Neil Diamond!!!!

  • I agree with" affectionatepunch" about how the commentators have to do the obligatory put down ,where any one with sixties long hair is " austin powers " and the post modern, post everything know it all labelling, even if they like the music themselves

  • Allan Clark has got to be the most underrated singers of the sixties - saw him live a few years ago - still sharp and awesome.

  • @deanok1960 I agree! Underrated is right. His voice is so strong.

  • awesome Guys .... what a great song ! classic stuff.....

  • @Hbon56 - lol! I always thought it was Gasoline Alley Red!

  • I wish someone would tell steve wright and now mark radcliffe how much they ruin TOTP2 with their inane drivel...

  • Oh, bravo! I'm rediscovering the Hollies after not listening to them since back in the day. How great they were...

  • How embarrasing, 40 yrs on I thought it was gasoline alley BREAD

  • @Hbon56 he he he...I've done that over the years with different songs.

  • allan clarke , did anybody have a better voice than that guy, great song and a brilliant performance from all the guys.

  • One of my favourite bands with one of my favourite songs of all times. Great song, great times!

  • superb song

  • What a gem.

  • The best song the ever did ..Still makes me shiver

  • WOW! WOW! pure pop/soul and lots of happy memories

  • One of the best british bands ever...i love this song.

  • Fantastic Share & Post!!! Love The Hollies!!!..5*s Thankyou aristacourt...Anita..:)

  • FORTY YEARS AGO ?????? still fresh

  • they could have sang humpty dumpty! love this group so underated.

  • 2:30 - all three singers have eyes closed and really into the moment. Fabulous harmonies.

  • Love the song....GREAT chorus...Great harmonizing.

  • they were destructed at RRHOF what a cock up that was no hicks sylvester still got issues. they should have all been there and all of them rehearsed and put on a show. RRHOF does not mean anything to me love them all. its whats in your head that counts

  • Great clip, great harmonies. Alan Clarke was and is a great singer. It's a pity he left the group.

  • THEEEEEEEEEEE Best of the Hollies

    Greetings from the Palatinate, Germany

  • oh yeah! que guapo el vocalista

  • What an amazing band they were! Fantastic singers and fantastic musicians. Unfortunately for The Hollies, they were around in the same era as The Beatles, otherwise who knows?? Mind you I honestly felt The Hollies were better.....There's a can of worms for ya!! When you hear the so-called musicians today, who just wanna chant confrontation in their rap, what a breath of fresh air to hear musicians, who can also sing and harmonise! Ironic that, for the MUSIC INDUSTRY!!

  • @topgooner64 I think the Beatles and the Hollies were equals - talented musicians, singers, and songwriters. Enough with the (insert group's namer here) was better than the Beatles nonsense. With garbage as music today, comparing bands from an era when music was real is unrealistic.

  • my my my does Tony ever stop looking so adorable? : )

  • @ladybluluv When you look up the word "adorable" there's a picture of Tony, lol.

  • @citybeat60 Yes, I'm sure there is, lol.

  • I love you, Allan xD

  • Congratulations to "our favorite guys", the Hollies for their induction into the RRHOF!! Very well deserved!! and It's about time!!

    Barb from CA

  • "The years haven't really been wasted' we just spent a good portion becoming HOLLIES fans forever.

  • One of my all time favourites....brill! All gorgeous guys; Tony Hicks, where are you!

  • Great song!

  • Das ist Musik!!!!!

  • A collection of talented individuals. Legends.

i am in love all over again. Allan take me!!! wrinkles and all ;)

  • i like this song

  • the voice over person is the english dj steve wright, who likes the sound of his own voice and has a way of trivialising records that he probably likes, and has recently developed the automatic habit of calling any male performer with a 60s look " austin powers" I can see that the hall of fame thing is important to some, and it does give recognition to a good group, but I see it as a kind of ceremonial institutionalisation of music like artists are museum pieces

  • You have a good point. Still, even if it is a 'museum', what good is it without The Hollies?

  • lets keep our fingers and toes crossed and pray that these guys are inducted to the RRHOF... they are overdue !!! Please! Please ! The Hollies are the best group ever ! Love you xxx ...Lyndloo

  • LOL...snap...those are exactly the words I used...'fingers and toes crossed' indeed.

Let's all keep writing on those websites.

We love you, fellas...you deserve it!!

  • @lyndloo Prayers were answered.. they were justifiably inducted earlier this year.

  • thank you RRHOF, for the nomination of this TALANTED group the HOLLIES...who's vocal and instrumental HARMONIES...are off the chart!!!

  • Who's that twat who always ensures that his voice-over ruins the start and finish of every TOTP clip?

  • It's great to watch PERFECTION in MOTION!!.........the HOLLIES..........sooo GOOD!!

  • for me hands down, the best looking group on the planet....one word= SEXY

  • Such a fantasitc sound!! Loved them today as much as I did back in the 60's!

Always and forever a Hollies fan!!

  • White British bands in those days seemed to have a lot of Soul! Love them

  • Man sind die gut.

  • One of my favorite bands.

  • Great vocal performance. Great band!

  • Great song!!!...The Hollies used to be my favorite group, back in the day. In this particular video, I missed Grahan Nash, who was gone to CSN&Y

  • What a time to have come up in, when WMMR was in its heyday; social change..true rock n' roll when hearing a record for the first time was so innocent yet core piercing. Nowadays we have so much disposability and instant gratificatino in our culture that hearing something..a song like this...is more than just "reassuring"...or what the "others" will tell you is some banal trite reconnection with nostalgia...

  • You hit the nail on the proverbial head my friend. Right on,right on,right on! The truth is...if something is good,it's always good. It's no different than someone now in their mid-30s to early 40s,having nostalgia for 80s music. Poor unfortunate people haha. I don't subscribe to that nostalgia thing anyway. It's simply great, timeless music!

  • Agreeing 100% !!! Just like Mozart, Bach, and any great art.

  • Thanks man...The Hollies forever! Oh,and Mozart & Bach too haha.

  • Even tough it really doesn't matter, I think they should be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. It's really weird that they are not in it yet

  • Its up to those shitheads in Rolling Stone to nominate them. They seem to be on a politically correct journey to induct non rock n rollers. Same holds true for the Moody Blues. What an injustice!!

  • The Moody Blues aren't in there either?

Such a disgrace for these bands to remain unrecognised!

  • You have that right my friend! They are a bunch of shitheads...with their heads up their asses lol. Those elitist clowns can sit around and dismiss great acts like The Hollies & Moody Blues in favor of Lynyrd Skynyrd,Grandmaster Flash,Leonard Cohen & Madonna!!!!

That sickens me! Leonard Cohen???Madonna??? In the R&R HOF?!?! WTF!!!

  • For me the biggest injustice is not having Steve Marriot in the hall. One of the greatest rock n roll performers I have ever seen.

  • You're correct about that. Marriott has always been a personal fave of mine. With Small Faces & Humble Pie both. It's simply absurd that a rock hero/icon like him wasn't inducted long ago. Bunch of idiots!

  • Simply and perfect....

  • The level of musicianship on this song is outstanding. What a performance and great live vocal. Wish the drums & bass would have been higher up in the mix.

  • A great band, their greatest hits is a sure buy. This song is my favourite along with Air that i breathe.

  • One of my favourite song from the hollies.

Even thouh they were a commercial 45 rpm hit single band they made fantastic songs. Listen to their LP DISTANT LIGHT in 1971. You can hear that they were fantastic qualitiy Songwriters. Long Cool Woman is to hear on this compilation.

  • melhor banda de todos so tempos

  • I really love this song, it's so good to listening this song in the morning at the top of the hill. But, I still don't understand what is this song about?

  • I feel like its a song about going to the rich side of town to make it. The man feels like its futile to keep going so he tells the woman they need to go back home.

  • Comment removed

  • The Hollies were so underrated,Because there was so many great band about those days.

  • Just simply brilliant , enough said....

  • agreed!

  • This is the Pinnacle/Tops/Best HOLLIES song.... It has everything a HOLLIES song needs. Just love how the song flows, the piano enters, rhythms, vocals, harmonies. Contribution of every HOLLIES member. I listen to this song, over and over and never tire of it. And still, it grows on me more and more..LISTEN and then LISTEN again..Thanks for youtube and thanks for the post of the HOLLIES...

  • You are absolutely right that this is vintage Hollies. When Terry comes in at 30 seconds, its just magic.

  • Terry knocks out everyone with his performance to open this song, where have the chokers gone from the 70's? Great voices cascade from this video, pure pleasure.

  • I have just seen these boys tonight in Norwich for the 6th time and they are still fantastic, great night.

  • Such a great band.

  • what a great song,so underrated

  • Totally agree, a superb song.

  • Nothing is more stunning than Allan's voice and face in this video....NOTHING!!!!

This is The Hollies at their best!

  • WOW! This is a great video, Allan, Tony, and Bern, I don't know which one is the HOTTEST! (I think Allan wins...) They sound great on this song too.

  • I was unaware about the hall of fame.

What a total disgrace. Their music and talent leaves for dead, some of the rubbish that has been included over the years.

  • Right!...it is WAY overdue.

  • how the hell is this band not in the rock n' roll hall of fame??!!.... and elvis costello is???!!!!!

  • It's the biggest disgrace in the history of music. There's a website called 'future hall of fame' where you can get a word in, wbreese...worth a try I reckon.

  • Cant beleive that wanker elvis costello is in the hall of fame!

  • @housecarl6

    That's a bit harsh, buddy.

  • He IS a great drummer. One of my favourites.

So stop being so touchy. I just asked a question , you moosehead. Get over it.

  • Bobby Elliott hardly had hair in the 60s.

    Is he WIGGING it?

  • Why keep bringing this up? Who cares?

Bobby is one of the all time greats.

  • I'd gladly give up my hair to have been able to play drums as well as Bobby Elliott can.

  • heheheh! very funny and logical comment....thanks rico, buddy xx

Incidentally todbeck and I have called a truce.

  • GREAT song, band and harmonies.

Why on earth do people listen to todays hip hop music. The 60s music was so much better.

  • Valeu por postar !!!!

Uma das minhas prediletas também !!!!

    {Vou entrar na sua comu do orkut}

    Abraços!!

  • I was never a Hollies fan but I did buy this - and I did like 'The Baby' with Mike. Even so, they are up there with most of them.

  • Perfect voice; perfect face. Allan you are PERFECTION itself!

  • You are so right :)

  • I will ask the question again,(it boggles the mind why we even have to ask) why aren't the HOLLIES in the Rock-n-Roll Hall Of Fame? Just give me one good reason why.

  • damn right!!! the rn'r hall of fame is BS!!!

  • the head of the Hall committee is Jon Landau who I believe lives in California. we should send him a letter politely asking him to induct the Hollies.

I found this online : " Landau is a music critic, manager and record producer, known for his association with Bruce Springsteen.

He is the head of the nominating committee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and along with Jann Wenner, has been criticised for vetoing a number of candidates considered worthy by observers."

  • I'm in! There's also a website called 'Future Hall Of Fame'...we can all add our voices there as well.

  • i just read on huffington post that the nominees for this year include the Hollies. this is not an induction list. the inductees will come from the list that was released. so we will have to wait for it to be official.

  • how about 2 good reasons? Jon Landau and Jann Wenner, see below.

  • What's up with those two??? Perhaps Springsteen should have a go at them...he loves our lads, especially since they did such a brilliant job on Sandy!

  • The Hollies had more and better hits after Graham Nash left the band. One of the best bands to come out of England.

  • What a tune! Every song tells a story and that song rings true!

  • The Hollies rule! - I never underrated them!

  • you know what awesome post HEY TRICIA AWESOME SHARE HMMMMMMM your getting good girl love it but the better you get then some stress is took from me LOL AWESOME

  • allan clarke they dont make music like this anymore

  • Great video. Allan is MAGNIFICENT! He never sang a song without pulling the message and emotion out of it. In this one when he sings 'let's get away' at 2:36 he makes it REAL...killer performance.

  • He is a legend in fact they all are.

  • timeless

  • class

  • I was never a fan of the Hollies, but this one is just fantastic - as good today as it was back then.

  • RIP Carl Wayne

  • I love The Hollies, I love Allan Clarke, and I love so much this song ¡

  • One of the best.

  • shit !!! how much do i love this song, not heard this for a long time. beautiful ....!!

  • Thanks so much 4 posting this, it is every thing the era was about for just a mo i was back there man that was good.

  • allan often gets overlooked, but he was an amazing lead singer. this band too gets overlooked but with or without Graham they were amazing too.

  • Great song.

  • Great song by the Hollies

  • one of my favorite hollies songs.

  • ditto..but long cool woman in a black dress was the one

  • I was never a great fan of the Hollies, but they earnt my respect with this song.

  • no man can ever come close to allan clarke!!!!!!!!

  • They were the kings of the 45 vinyl single!

  • Most underrated group ever! Great song!

  • Terry Sounds a lot like Allen!

  • 39,000 views of this incredible song from an exceptional group of men who were the HOLLIES.I am proud to say I must have at least a hundred of those views and each time its a great listen.

  • Difficult to pick a best Hollies song. There are so many great ones....

  • Arguably the greatest Hollies song ever. Great singing, harmonies, instrumentation, and lovely lyrics.

  • Thank you so much, so much for posting this video, it's really my favourite of all, I really enjoy it a lot, and dance and sing...Thank you!

  • Last text comment was meant to have said signed the incrediblebob's Aunty A???

  • Happy memories!! When I was a lass!! signed the incredible Aunty A????

  • I absolutely love this song.

  • one of my favorite groups

  • The Bee Gees? Oh please, I'll take the Hollies anyday over the Bee Gees!

  • Keep the HOLLIES in your heart and recognize them in your conversations. They need to be remembered for the class act they were and are.Next step is the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. They are most deserving don't you think?

  • allan if you are out there reading this, still love you after 44 years!! X

  • one of my favorite 60s groups

  • Such a fantastic piece of footage hightlighting the versatility and musicianship of this band. There so much to like and admire about this clip.If I had to choose something from a lot of fine aspects it would be being able to zoom in on some truly superb bass playing.I wish there were more music videos like this where you can really see the muso's performing , both individually and as a group.

  • My all time favourite Hollies song.Luv the initial guitar intro-(must herald the best of all time)The vocals from Allan-stunning,the harmonies-breathtaking-the lyrics amazing and of course the very precious Tony playing a blinder-very underated guitarist-should get-the same recognition as Page,Clapton etc.Cheers!!!

  • Drummer Bobby Elliott took to wearing a wig around this time instead of a hat

  • I meant to add that the Hollies are absolutely FAB...love them!!!

  • TOP song...fantastic!!!

  • These guys were magic, maybe under rated but still excellent, they had some massive records, and a sneaky favorite was when they covered Just Like a woman by Bob Dylan and it's truly beautiful.

  • i guess when ur up against the beatles, the rolling stones and the beegees, its easy to be overlooked. i love these guys. lots of people know their songs but dont realise its the hollies.

  • It's taken 30 years for this band to 'grow on me'..Really love all their stuff now...!

  • What a great clip of my favourite song by the best British group ever. Allan Clarke was the finest and most underated singer of the 60s 70s and 80s. What a guitar intro and solo from Tony Hicks. Great playing and singing from everyone.

  • these guys were hot, really they were

  • this is how I want to remeber "THE HOLLIES" gorgeous guys and a great sound! phew !! LOVE THEM! I will savour this moment in time!!long live the 60s!!! fellas you rock!!
