This is unreal... I can't believe someone wrote this and can play it on guitar. But if anyone could, it's Don. A beautiful, humble human being who just happens to be an unbelievable musician...
the best version of that song. hands down. Too bad the tab on candy site is still linked to the other (i guess old) version....at least that's what i think since every cover listened here on youtube are just like the old ver. of this song. U neither know how much i would like to buy the tab for this version of ThinAir
This song is amazing and nothing can be compared with this(instrumental). This man in my opinion is absolutly fantastic and he has got talent to play fingers. He should join to "... Got talent" or anything like that. Greetings from Poland.
if that dylan guy posts here i swear hes in for it. hes been pissing me off all week. Not respecting the great michael hedges who inspired all the players.
i just did a concert with don ross he came to my highschool arthur voaden secondary school, he was with my class for 4 days it was amazing he tought us a whole bunch of songs.... KEEP IT UP DON
im honestly lost... why arent you more famous! or maybe im just uneducated when it comes to famous musicians and you really are super famous, but if your not then you need to be
@dallasbean36 He is famous among people who are into this style of music. Its just that this style of music isn't "mainstream" so the vast majority of people have never heard of him, which is unfortunate indeed. He and the other artists at candyrat have a lot to share!
I actually like this version better than the CD one. It kind of fuses Big Buck and Thin Air together to bring out something awesome, plus the amount of feeling he gives it is pretty amazing.
@mklarocca If you don't find Thin Air, Blue Bear, Jesse Helms Night in Havana or a number of other songs by Don Ross not impressive or memorable then there is something wrong with your ears. Technical skill aside the songs are well composed and catchy at that.
Tommy Emmanuel is a great guitar player; this I cannot refute... but I can't say I would find myself listening to many of Tommy's songs except the "catchy" ones. With Don Ross I find myself listening to them all. :P
I understand. But, I don't think playing great music is the same as being a jukebox. There are great composers, as well as, great musicians. Why ignore them? I will continue to listen and keep my mouth shut.
Just thought I'd chime in and say that what I do is perform almost 100% original music. No too interested in being a jukebox. Like Tommy? Good on you. Go listen to Tommy. I listen to artists I enjoy and tend to leave the ones I don't like alone and don't bother dissing them.
@DonRossMusic Here, here! I frankly believe YouTube would be better served simply by eliminating the "dislike" button altogether and limiting the voting mechanism to the one that reads "like." Giving the haters (or "dislikers") a venue for venting their life's frustrations should not be a role yTube fulfills. Not hitting "like" gets the message across well enough. Btw, love your posts, Don. Thank you. I've "liked" them!
@dantean Not everyone who watches a video votes you know. 412,124views but the likes and dislikes don't add up to that. Its unfair not to include a dislike button because that is the idea of a rating system. To give feedback on a video.
There are reasons people dislike this kind of music and if you would like to know why I could tell you why. If the dislike button goes, the like button goes too.
@DonRossMusic I think what I like best about your music, is the feeling you put into each piece and the fact you enjoy playing really comes thru. I like Tommy but I find myself listening and really liking your music way more and I believe it's because you play what you want, the way you want. Sure you could play "Classical Gas" but why?
@DonRossMusic Hey Don, don't know how much you care to respond to fan music on youtube but I have a question as a curious guitar player. I'm just getting into your style of music after learning a lot of blues. Who were some of your influences that I can gain the most guitar knowledge from?? I know michael hedges because of your song but who else did you learn from?
@DonRossMusic i think you are good noone should be so use to the same old thing people should expand thier mind to the possibilities of variety being different and sharing alot more then just a few meager tunes i like it
@DonRossMusic Don, I'd like to congratulate you on your epicly good guitar work. Persevering through the hard times doing what you love to do, playing guitar. You may not have had success instantly but I am glad you do now so I can hear these marvelous pieces of music. My hat goes off to you sir BRAVO!
I will continue to follow Don Ross because I love watching and listening to super talented musicians. Just wish he would go more the Tommy Emanuel route. Do his own stuff... sure. But give me some memorable tunes to latch on to. I am not bashing him... just want a bit more from him. Of course.. .he is awesome.
@mklarocca - Seriously?? You would have Don replace some of his compositions with Classical Gas and Beatles medleys? For you this would be "Don Ross giving more"? Seriously???
I would love to purchase a cd with him playing some standard pieces... Asturias... Jerry's Breakdown... but, although I love to watch him play his own music... it is not very good... and not very memorable. Nor, would I like to hear it more than once. Please give us a guitar virtuoso piece that we can relate to...
@mklarocca see i totally disagree with you, I think his music is very good. I dig Don's music and i can jam the same songs all the time, ipod or guitar. Maybe you should just listen to someone else if you cant even remember his songs lol, that just sounds like your forcing yourself to listen to him.

@alex1234912 This style of guitar is most commonly known as 'Fingerstyle'. It's also known as New Age, Candyrat Music and Don's own name for it 'Heavy Wood'. :)
you know how they say there are only so many combinations of notes you can write before repeating, well i don't think anyone has ever played this combination of notes ever in the history of the musical world.
I think a lot of the guys on CandyRat have earned the right to charge for views. It's quite guilt-inducing watching such great talent for free, while less talented people take in the cash..
My favorite part about this video is watching Don Ross play this song with such ease and placidity, yet the music itself conveys a tonal intensity that would suggest something else.
this is all well and good and Don Ross kicks ass but what about all the amazing players that you can't find on YouTube like ALEX HOUGHTON from Ottawa ont.
this is why i love youtube. so many amazing musicians are on here that other wise i would of never know about. it just opens up so many opportunities for the artist an the listener.
Love the rnding

@alex1234912 This style of guitar is most commonly known as 'Fingerstyle'. It's also known as New Age, Candyrat Music and Don's own name for it 'Heavy Wood'. :)

you know how they say there are only so many combinations of notes you can write before repeating, well i don't think anyone has ever played this combination of notes ever in the history of the musical world.

Don Ross and Andy Mckee are clearly the greatest acoustic guitarists of all time.

I don't think there's any greater joy in life than hearing what beautiful sound a guitar can make when given to the right person.

Man, I just love this song so much.
