  • This is unreal... I can't believe someone wrote this and can play it on guitar. But if anyone could, it's Don. A beautiful, humble human being who just happens to be an unbelievable musician...

  • dude looks like peter jackson

  • 34 people were softly raped by don ross' music

  • the best version of that song. hands down. Too bad the tab on candy site is still linked to the other (i guess old) version....at least that's what i think since every cover listened here on youtube are just like the old ver. of this song. U neither know how much i would like to buy the tab for this version of ThinAir

  • oh how this breaks me down to tears every time i listen to this in the morning..tears of joy though :)

  • Awesome.

  • andy is a god..and dos his master..that makes him mastergod doesn't it?

  • This song takes me so far away. I can smell the mountainside, fresh air, sun on my skin, wind in my hair. Darn.

So awesome, brings me peace inside, thanks Don.

  • perfection.

  • This song is amazing and nothing can be compared with this(instrumental). This man in my opinion is absolutly fantastic and he has got talent to play fingers. He should join to "... Got talent" or anything like that. Greetings from Poland.

  • Don Ross= Guitar Legend

  • awesome!!!!

  • Is James MAY?

  • woow in one vid he is a big bear like berry from angry beavers groove baby

and next video he is ripped whats happening ? :S

  • @Dariusyamaha Oh yeah Tommy''s good... he will play a good arrangement of a song NOT written by him for you OVER and OVER and OVER..

  • if that dylan guy posts here i swear hes in for it. hes been pissing me off all week. Not respecting the great michael hedges who inspired all the players.

  • * fan mail

  • of all his looks, I think this is the perfect beard to hair ratio :P

  • darnit! i've been listening to Candy Rat music for 4 hours! i've got stuff to do today!

  • He's the Godfather of all guitarists.

  • @DonRossMusic Wow man, that is truly beautiful and deeply moving! Thanks for sharing it with us.

  • Thank you for restoring sanity in my day!

  • Dude love the story you tell without any words

  • I daresay this isn't the willing rape of a guitar. This is love-making to his guitar. And, daaamn, he does it well.

  • thats amazing how complex and smooth this sounds

  • @Dariusyamaha Ewan Dobson - Savior

  • @Dariusyamaha nah. tommy is the trinity.

  • song was posted on 420!!! Yesss instant like.

  • how lucky i've watched his gig in japan 2 or 3 years ago.

  • this is like BOB Ross, but with a guitar :)

  • I feel free when I listen to Don Ross.....

    wow...

  • 32 people qualify for the death penalty.

  • @EnergonCubed 34..haters gonna hate, but seriously wtf people

  • George Michael - Doesn't play guitar

  • im honestly lost... why arent you more famous! or maybe im just uneducated when it comes to famous musicians and you really are super famous, but if your not then you need to be

  • @dallasbean36 He is famous among people who are into this style of music. Its just that this style of music isn't "mainstream" so the vast majority of people have never heard of him, which is unfortunate indeed. He and the other artists at candyrat have a lot to share!

  • @DrBromiAndufEwd haha ok thanks for the headsup. yeah it is definitely verrrry unfortunate because this stuffs amazing

  • Michael Hedges - Atheist

  • go to video titled MY CAT SONG "TOMBOY"

  • @Dariusyamaha I'll have to look him up lol

  • I actually like this version better than the CD one. It kind of fuses Big Buck and Thin Air together to bring out something awesome, plus the amount of feeling he gives it is pretty amazing.

  • I wanna be part of that guitar family!

  • Maneli Jamal - Sons best friend

  • Sungha Jung - Grandson

  • one of the greatest guitar piece ever played, it feels so inspired

  • @Dariusyamaha Michael Hedges - GOD

  • @Aram

  • @mklarocca If you don't find Thin Air, Blue Bear, Jesse Helms Night in Havana or a number of other songs by Don Ross not impressive or memorable then there is something wrong with your ears. Technical skill aside the songs are well composed and catchy at that.

Tommy Emmanuel is a great guitar player; this I cannot refute... but I can't say I would find myself listening to many of Tommy's songs except the "catchy" ones. With Don Ross I find myself listening to them all. :P

  • Another incredible guitar player by Candyrat... I'm not surprised at all :)

  • Very nice.

  • Ross is a beast!

  • I understand. But, I don't think playing great music is the same as being a jukebox. There are great composers, as well as, great musicians. Why ignore them? I will continue to listen and keep my mouth shut.

  • Just thought I'd chime in and say that what I do is perform almost 100% original music. No too interested in being a jukebox. Like Tommy? Good on you. Go listen to Tommy. I listen to artists I enjoy and tend to leave the ones I don't like alone and don't bother dissing them.

    Peace,

    D

  • @DonRossMusic Here, here! I frankly believe YouTube would be better served simply by eliminating the "dislike" button altogether and limiting the voting mechanism to the one that reads "like." Giving the haters (or "dislikers") a venue for venting their life's frustrations should not be a role yTube fulfills. Not hitting "like" gets the message across well enough. Btw, love your posts, Don. Thank you. I've "liked" them!

  • @dantean Not everyone who watches a video votes you know. 412,124views but the likes and dislikes don't add up to that. Its unfair not to include a dislike button because that is the idea of a rating system. To give feedback on a video.

There are reasons people dislike this kind of music and if you would like to know why I could tell you why. If the dislike button goes, the like button goes too.

  • @DonRossMusic I think what I like best about your music, is the feeling you put into each piece and the fact you enjoy playing really comes thru. I like Tommy but I find myself listening and really liking your music way more and I believe it's because you play what you want, the way you want. Sure you could play "Classical Gas" but why?

  • @DonRossMusic Hey Don, I'm trying to learn this song right now and its sooo hard props for righting it :D

  • @DonRossMusic Hey Don, don't know how much you care to respond to fan music on youtube but I have a question as a curious guitar player. I'm just getting into your style of music after learning a lot of blues. Who were some of your influences that I can gain the most guitar knowledge from?? I know michael hedges because of your song but who else did you learn from?

  • @The727stpete727 A lot of fingerstyle players cut their teeth on Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins... Hope I helped

  • @DonRossMusic i think you are good noone should be so use to the same old thing people should expand thier mind to the possibilities of variety being different and sharing alot more then just a few meager tunes i like it

  • @DonRossMusic Don, I'd like to congratulate you on your epicly good guitar work. Persevering through the hard times doing what you love to do, playing guitar. You may not have had success instantly but I am glad you do now so I can hear these marvelous pieces of music. My hat goes off to you sir BRAVO!

  • @DonRossMusic lol win. The man himself speaks. So I take it you have no comment on the new limp bizkit album then?

  • I will continue to follow Don Ross because I love watching and listening to super talented musicians. Just wish he would go more the Tommy Emanuel route. Do his own stuff... sure. But give me some memorable tunes to latch on to. I am not bashing him... just want a bit more from him. Of course.. .he is awesome.

  • @mklarocca - Seriously?? You would have Don replace some of his compositions with Classical Gas and Beatles medleys? For you this would be "Don Ross giving more"? Seriously???

  • I would love to purchase a cd with him playing some standard pieces... Asturias... Jerry's Breakdown... but, although I love to watch him play his own music... it is not very good... and not very memorable. Nor, would I like to hear it more than once. Please give us a guitar virtuoso piece that we can relate to...

  • @mklarocca see i totally disagree with you, I think his music is very good. I dig Don's music and i can jam the same songs all the time, ipod or guitar. Maybe you should just listen to someone else if you cant even remember his songs lol, that just sounds like your forcing yourself to listen to him.

  • @mklarocca screw standard pieces. It's Don's amazing composition and technique that make him such a breathe of fresh air. I'm surprised you actually think his music isn't very good. It's absolutely brilliant in every way.

  • @mklarocca You can't relate to this?

  • amazing O.o

  • I fell In love with this music! FREAKING AWESOME!

  • This song always puts a smile on my face.

  • This is the kind of music I used to listen to on the hillside over looking the river.

  • woah i didn't know ron jeremy could play!

  • I think the d-string isn't tuned properly if you listen careful?

  • People should stop saying how they will never become as good as Don, it would and will be hard but if you put your mind to it, it will happen (:

  • I could only ever hope to become even a quarter as miraculously skilled and creative as this man... truly astounding chord progressions and technique... I love this piece and I hope i will still listen to this artist a thousand times more...

  • I skipped seeing this live to take the SAT? what a rip off

  • Those hammer-ons are amazing.

  • amazing :)

  • 3:27 - 3:35 . Yes.

  • Great record, not just a regular musician

  • @Aran34X And Michael Hedges = God ? :)

  • @Aran34X i almost fell out of my chair when i read this OMFG ROFLMAO...

casue thier awsome. i wasnt laughing cause it was opposite

  • @Aran34X you forgot to mention the allmighty Craig D'andrea

  • @Aran34X Lets not forget about Steffen Schakinger : ) can he be Buddha ?!

  • @lintball0190 No, Billy McClaughlin is the Buddha in this metaphor

  • @permutationsofpaul ...well to each their own. I have never really listened to McClaughlin..i love Schackinger. But i guess he doesn't fit since he plays electric. if you wanna go acoustic then Michael Hedges has to be in there somewhere..if you don't agree..PLEASE listen to Jitterboogie by Hedges !!

  • @lintball0190 Ha! I completely forgot about Hedges for a moment. Rickover's Dream is probably my favorite. I haven't actually heard much of Schackinger. Inhale Pink is probably Bill's greatest album. Helm's Place and So Long are musts.

  • @Aran34X whaaat? no stefano barone?

  • @Aran34X Thumbs way the fck up!

  • @Aran34X Sungha jung daughter

  • @mickfreeze lmfao!

    Michael Hedges - Cool Uncle

  • @Aran34X Michael Hedges - Great Grandfather

  • @Aran34X your logic is flawless xD

  • @Aran34X

    Gareth Pearson - Baby Jesus

  • Probly been asked a few times already 2 drunk 2 look through the comments though!

    what tuning is this??

  • @mckellion Don posts all tunings to his compositions on his website, gobyfish.com

  • This almost made me cry

  • Amazing!

  • i'm not going to lie. i took my pants off half way threw this song. amazing..

  • It's a shame his tabs say "Improvise" at the bridge instead of telling you how to play it. The bridge is sort of the only reason I purchased the tab in the first place...

  • @arglechewyshoe Improvising in the tuning (DADEAE) is more than half the fun, and not that hard, believe it or not. There is a tab available on my website of the version I played on my recording "Huron Street," complete with the improv, but it's different again from this version (as it should be). I personally have a hard time with the idea of transcribing my improvisations. They should be different every time.

  • @DonRossMusic I bought that tab, Don. But the improv section wasn't included?

  • @joelosby ... Improv yourself.

  • @joelosby You'll have to buy ANOTHER version of this tablature, that one has the improv from the Huron Street version. If you bought the version without the improv, you're pretty SoL as far as that goes.

  • Ross owns McKee in my opinion i like his songs better.

  • The level of creativity and musicianship is just incredible.

  • I'm a fairly accomplished guitarist....been playing for over 40 years...after listening to this I realize what the Beach Boys felt like when they heard the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper album...Don Ross is amazing...this song is amazing and I will never look at my guitar the same way again. This has inspired me to work harder...What an incredible moment this was to hear this....

  • I love his use of harmonics!

  • BEAST!!!!!!!!

  • FUCK YOU CAPTCHA

  • This is lush! Thanks again Don for another belter!

If you like chilled out acoustic feel, free to visit my page - would be great to meet you.

  • He's pretty amazing (: I'd put him up there with Andy McKee and John Bulter Trio

  • Always loved this song!

  • whats the tuning?

  • @collinurmom Low to High : D A D E A E

You can find all of his tunings at his official website, gobyfishmusic . com

  • A moment in time. A beautiful one at that..

  • wow.

this makes me think i suck though playing 4 years already ;)

  • @RevivetheFlowerPower

Don't feel bad I think Don has been playing for well over 30 years.

  • dude i love ur guitar playin...thats one of your songs???

  • Wow Don Simply Wonderful Love Your Style And Technique God Bless You And Yours Always.I hear Alot Of Love In Your Music. Peace Man.

    Brian Mohrman

  • @bmohr37 Why do you capitalize the first letter of every word? =/

  • Don's use of dynamics set a beautiful mood for this song.

  • what kind of guitar style is this ??

  • @alex1234912 "awesome"

  • @alex1234912 ermmm...i suppose you could say its got roots in gypsy jazz/ jazz in general but i think its just this guys own style.

Oh and maybe some flamenco thrown in...

  • @alex1234912 This style of guitar is most commonly known as 'Fingerstyle'. It's also known as New Age, Candyrat Music and Don's own name for it 'Heavy Wood'. :)

  • Aaaand, into my favourites it goes :P This is AMAZING music, it feels sooooo gooooood to listen to.

  • you know how they say there are only so many combinations of notes you can write before repeating, well i don't think anyone has ever played this combination of notes ever in the history of the musical world.

  • Craig D'Andrea needs to cover this song!

  • Don Ross and Andy Mckee are clearly the greatest acoustic guitarists of all time.

  • @LeVictoriaLovesJosh

well lets not forget about michael hedges. he pretty much set milestones for his composition and style.

  • @alumpere2

    Him too :P lol.

  • Don's music always sets me free.

  • I don't think there's any greater joy in life than hearing what beautiful sound a guitar can make when given to the right person.

  • I think a lot of the guys on CandyRat have earned the right to charge for views. It's quite guilt-inducing watching such great talent for free, while less talented people take in the cash..

  • I should be asleep, but I can't stop listening

  • beautiful. amazing. never stop. youre music is inspirational!

  • 2:22, life's ok.

  • don ross,

    we're not worthy.

  • Magical

  • danm waht's the tuning ?

  • @acron93 DADEAE

  • My favorite part about this video is watching Don Ross play this song with such ease and placidity, yet the music itself conveys a tonal intensity that would suggest something else.

Man, I just love this song so much.

  • this is all well and good and Don Ross kicks ass but what about all the amazing players that you can't find on YouTube like ALEX HOUGHTON from Ottawa ont.

  • @2stick5

upload some of that m8 :) i'd love to listen to it...

let me know when u do

  • this is why i love youtube. so many amazing musicians are on here that other wise i would of never know about. it just opens up so many opportunities for the artist an the listener.
