If you're going to have a government of any kind then I think it makes sense for certain functions of it to be global. Wealth redistribution and enforcement of fundamental human rights for example, why should your taxes go towards helping an unemployed person in your own country but not to children dying of treatable diseases in other countries. Economic globalisation requires political globalisation to keep it in check.
