I grew up in the 80s and 90s too and I love Steely Dan. I just wish people would stop fucking bitching about how music has supposedly gone down hill. Shit music and great music have always co-existed and they always will. If you're just letting the television and top-40 radio spoon-feed your lazy ass then of course you're going to think poorly of the contemporary musical landscape. Download a file sharing program, get off the couch and stop being such haters, people...
Maaan, I miss good music like this. I grew up in the 80's and 90's and they just dont make good music anymore, i love the musicianship here, every strum every beat is a reminder that once someone cared about creating something special. Here Here to the days of early michael jackson, prince, doobie brothers, tower of power, earth wind and fire, and the list goes on and on for people who cared about making you feel something while listening to them.
One of the best music vids ever made! Love the references to Brubeck, Ambush, Tuesday Weld and I wonder how many people pick up that when they are touching fingers it is right out of ET.... Grandmaster Donald Fagan at his best!!! and still going as strong as ever!
I was only half dozen of years when SD started his way. They are amazing. DF is a master songwriter. This tune is just something out of scale... It's a master piece.
Weird, been humming "just in case..." since 2002. We had lots of beer...just in a case, though--not a keg. Been living in a new frontier since.
Even though FrankinDonnie boy is a big leach, he still has a lot of (other) things to say. And even today there are probably 'new frontiers' for him to discover and make music about.
Ahhh the good old days; where the only real enemy kept terrorism in check, and both East & West kept the liberal hippies from whining about the planet by the threat of Mutually Assured Destruction!!!
But I digresse. This is one of my all time Favs and wish that I could find a free site where I could download and preserve the videos of my youth...
Awesome Vid... I remember this from when I was in High School. Though the theme is retro 1962, it somehow conveys the feel of the eighties perfectly. Maybe it's the theme of partying and having fun with the undercurrent of Nuclear War ever-present. ...perhaps. :-)
I like it so much. But now i'm asking what does Obama think to do about the Russian submarine in the Cuba Coast?
Obama don't hear Bush, please!
Only we want to see this video, as something cultural, forever

Great! Music not just for lowest common denominator. It still stands up well.

At the very end of this clip, it shows the one-second beginning of "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" by The Moody Blues.

I've loved this track since I first heard it in 1982 and the album is brilliant as well.

Excellent video. Donald Fagen is a very great singer and I like it very much(The Nightfly - 1982).

very different and very interesting and the impending doom possibility manages to be lighthearted.
