"That evening, when the announcer at Canton announced Williams's death to the gathered crowd, they started laughing, thinking that it was just another excuse. After Hawkshaw Hawkins and other performers started singing "I Saw the Light" as a tribute to Williams, the crowd, now realizing that he was indeed dead, sang along."
One Christmas eve some friends & I jammed this song. Jack played guitar, Jan played piano, & I played cornet (a smaller trumpet). I Saw The Light sounded pretty good on a brass instrument, if I say so myself. A few years later I REALLY saw the light & accepted Christ as Lord & Savior. This song planted the seed. Thanx for posting.
Imagine if hank lived through his depression . and into the 1960,s 70,s 80,s,90,s00's i wander what kind of musican he would have been. mind u if he was still alive to day he would be 88 yrs old.
Hank was indeeed found to be dead in the back seat of his car while being driven to a concert. The place he was discovered to be dead was in Oak Hill, WV. Just barely north of Beckley,WV on what we refer to now as old rt. 19. For any who are interestd in visiting the spot, RT. 19 now is a 4 lane highway that connects many travellers from Canada and the New York area to I-77 and I-64 in Beckley, WV. Just a little piece of history in case you wanted to visit it during your travels.
Hank embodied the struggle that many of us go through in life. On one shoulder the angel and the other the devil. I have no doubt about his sincerity in any of his music. He speaks for many.
A lost soul or not, This is not up to you to judge, its between him and God.As for as praying for him it is to late now. He has already gone to his reward. Praying for him should have been done while he was still alive. You don't pray for the dead you pray for the living.
@sssudsberry If you really care about Hank 3; then you should be on your knees praying to The Good Lord to show him the light! Stop Bashing him!!! He is just "Lost" at this time in his life and God loves him just as much as you and I. Luke 15:4 states “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?"
Its NOT a fantsy, it is the trouth. If you don't chang your ways one day you will wake up in Hell. Than you will know thw trouth. It will be to late. You will spend eternity in Hell.
@sssudsberry Disrespect?? Hank Williams died of morphine, B12, chloral hydrate, and alcohol and had a daughter with one of his secretaries!! Love me some Hank Sr (I also understand he was in a lot of pain due to his spina bifida) but the only difference between him and 3 is 3 is open about his vices. I myself am not into the devil crap but he is a great artist and his individualism should praised as his grandfathers was.
@kulthuas Actually, Hank died in the back seat of a car early New Year's Day 1953 as he was being driven to Ohio for a concert, after he had to miss one elsewhere due to an ice storm in Tennessee.
Yes, Amen to Hank Williams SR. There will NEVER be another Hank. He was truley one of a kind. His personal life was a mess. But I feel in my heart he got it right with the Lord before he left this world, And he is in Heaven and I hope someday to shake his hand.

I love this song. The lyrics are a bit quaint and show his delusion of god but the song is still a true classic.

wouldn't it be wonderful if live could actually that way - happily ever after - what a wonderful fantasy
but reality all to often is a heartattack after drug and alcohol abuse in a car in the middle of the night with 30
