I can remember about 11 years ago, being in his 1979 gmc g- van, and looking through the floor in the passenger seat ( which wasnt even attached to the floor) and being able to see the lines.
I have to tell you, Roxy, what REALLY makes me angry about this program, besides the fact that the vehicles that are being scrapped under this BULLSHIT program are practically brand new, is the fact that you know that a dealer will be trading a family out of, say, a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe & putting them into a new Cobalt or, saints preserve us, an Aveo when it is clear that the reason that they bought the Tahoe in the first place is because they needed the room that a vehicle like that provides.
I am all in favor of vehicles that get good gas mileage, but, in this case, I feel that Obama is putting the cart before the horse. I heard on the news recently that he has increased the CAoFE requirements to 35.5 or something like that. That is a GREAT move on his part, but Obama needs to realize that until the major automakers get up off of their lazy asses & figure out how to produce a vehicle that is versatile & gets high mileage, (cont'd)
There will still be people who need the room & versatility of a larger vehicle, even if it DOES get crappy gas mileage. Let's take a vehicle like your blue '86 Celebrity. At the time the Celebrity was introduced ('82 model year) it was at a time when all the auto maker were downsizing their big American land yachts & switching them to front-wheel-drive to meet the CAFE standard of 27.5 MPG by 1985. I totally agree with you! These cars are not junk at all! There are some real pieces of shit here on the road in Buffalo, and these cars are the ones that need to come off the road. That pewter truck looked to be in great condition, and would have been a perfect plow truck. Looks like 2060 Auto parts will have a ton of new vehicles to add too their yard. Good people to do business with.

Because it gets too good of gas mileage. Your vehicle must have been rated at more than 18 miles per gallon, when it was new. My Pontiac Sunfire gets alot more than that, even though its falling apart.
But I would never trade a car in on this program anyway.

right now, unemployment is at an all-time low, people are driving whatever they can, and only repairing them when they break. now they get a very small incentive to buy a car they couldnt afford in the first place? willing to bet, in a fw months, repoes are going to be at a high, and then people will be looking for those clunkers that got killed.

You turn in an at least ten-year-old car at the dealership and if you buy a new car they drop off € 2,500.00 from the total. Simple as that. But, again, what a waste of good and dependable cars.
That Mercedes-Benz for example is in perfect driving condition. I believe it's a 230 E, model W124. Hand me the keys and I'll drive it proudly until the day I die. Simple as that. Spare parts are cheap for this car :-) and it's quitre easy to keep it in running condition.

So many perfect cars being given in and crushed!!!! Even my Dad has fallen for it and has traded his 1996 Ford Escort 1.6LX in for a new car!
I can see why he did it though...His Escort is worth around £800 if it were sold. They gave him £2150 for it on the Scrappage Scheme.
Sad really as it has only done 54K miles and is PERFECT...Always garaged and well maintained. They should give them to less fortunate people!!
