I don't know why so many people have made such rude comments...
This is such an adorable video! Sooooooooooooo cute!!!! I love birds. Of course, I think birds are happiest in the wild, but if they happen to be in captivity already, we need to take good care of them! It looks like you have done this! I think my bird would love to fly wild, but I also think that he would look like a tasty piece of candy to a predator.
Beautiful! I love it when neanderthal idiots expose their ignorance in situations like this. I respond to it like a blood sport. Nothing more invigorating than setting an ignorant, uninformed troglodyte straight, I love people who love these magnificent, enigmatic creatures. You ROCK!
That Cockatoo looks happy and that's all that matters. Have you seen what happens to parrots in the wild? They are prey animals and they die. Just because they "can" fly doesn't mean they want to. If they are happy in their home that they are in, that's many times better than what happens out in the world where they can fly. Some people's ignorance...
God, I found a Galah once -- an Australian parrot, and its wing never fully healed while we nursed it back to health. If I'd have rereleased it the poor thing would've died, yet I still had stupid sods saying I was being cruel by looking after him for the next few years. Jesus :/
You are doing a great thing by looking after these birds! Keep up the good work.
In general comment, they CAN'T fly with their own kind, they have been bred for generations as house pets, that's like saying that dogs need to go back to the wild with their brethren wolves and coyotes and that cats should go back to their wild roots 2nd food chain predators like foxes. MORONS. that is all.
@Macawsarepeople Note, coyotes and wolves will not hesitate to eat dogs. dogs have lost most of the pack mentality because WE are their pack, for parrots, we are their company(yes that is what a group of parrots is called)
Its better to let them fly youre right.but if they dont know whats like to be free they dont miss it We keep our birds caged and let them fly when possible
@vilashini8 I agree but they are here now and need to be cared for. they couldn't care for themselves in the wild so get off your holier than thou soapbox and don't talk shit about shit you know shit about
@vilashini8 so humans need to live and not to work for a crappy sallary to pay taxes with it and i dont say anything about that... stop beeing so ignorant..
@itubedesiree we lived on a farm, had cockatoos as a kid and we always let them free fly for an hour or two and they sat up in a walnut tree and enjoed the sun in San Diego all day any would cry when it was time to come home at night.any time they wanted to,they could have just flown away but they were part of the family and would play with our cat and our dachsunds too, really funny!our birds never lived in a cage, they had a perch at night and a tree during the day.happy birds w/plenty to eat!
@itubedesiree first of all, have you ever heard of free flight? second ours doesn't live i a cage we built her a pvc pipe tree, and third just what the f*** Over.
@itubedesiree you are really stupid. I didn't buy these birds. some other greedy mother f-------er caught them years ago and they are here now and someone needs to take care of them. If they were set free, they would die. So don't spout off about something you don't know shit about.
@TheHauntedMouth he sleeps at night. they never make noise when the lights are out unless one is having a bad dream which is hardly ever Although, Bogie, my M2 did his telephone ringing thing in the middle of the night once!
@TheHauntedMouth Are you kidding? That is a mellow sound for a Moluccan! You should hear them squawk! I'd rather hear this than their 135 decibel squawk anytime.

i think i have this bird now.... His name was paco and he had plucked feathers because one of his previous owners basically locked him in a basement or something
lol this is too funny! I love Cockatoos... my Goffins Cockatoo Squirt is my baby boy hes my sun, my moon, and my stars I would die to protect him...... I type this as hes chewing on my ear making it all red and puffy >.<
my dads Brother had one of this and it screamed so god dam high, and it imitated a ring clock all the time when i was trying to sleep. and it bited me as hell..
Lovely bird and very cute! They bite when they feel they are threatened because in the wild they know they're food for other animals. My African Grey does that and it makes me mad, but it's her favourite place to sit! So only for a short time...

@Kage999 because it was a cockatoo. :o) I love them too, we have 3 but really, they can go a little off occasionally. My other Moluccan, Bogie, just loves me to pieces but if conditions are less than perfect, he will bite me. So I've learned to read his body language and try to not let him get too excited while he is on my shoulder (which the bird "experts" say you should never let happen) I really love them but boy! they are really high maintenance! they're worth it though!
@jeannieo I could never understand why the 'experts' are against allowing a parrot to perch on the shoulder. My cockatiel loves no other place BUT my shoulder and that's where he spends most of his waking (and part of his napping) day. If I push him off of me, he will squawk incessantly until I let him back on. Putting him to bed at night in his cage is a real ordeal some evenings because of 'separation anxiety'.
@jeannieo Well I would say the "experts" don't always know best! (I have a Bolivian blue and gold macaw on my shoulder as I type this lol) My Kellie is the sweetest macaw in the world (As long as I don't piss her off lol) I love M2's too. I volunteer at a bird rescue and there are some really cool M2's there :-) My wife and I are currently housing 3 B&G macaws (2 are ours and one is a foster from Wings Over The Rainbow bird rescue) Beautiful lil guy you got there :-) Peace to you!
@mattxr2i This is old but I actually agree with the experts as far as keeping the birds off your shoulder. You might think they are trust worthy but all it takes is something startling or scaring the bird and it can turn around and hurt you. Their instinct I believe are to bite whatever is closest and you had better hope that it's not your eye. We've had close encounters with our yellow nape. She's a mellow and friendly bird but anything can happen in just a split second.

@FuckinGumba how old are you 8? because it sure as hell seems like it with your immature retarded and not funny 3rd grade comments. Instead of troll youtube with no life, try to make some friends :) I see what the effects of you having no friends through out your life has done to you, and I must say I truly feel sorry for you. Its rather pathetic =)
I wish people on here would grow up, or at least know what they are talking about before they comment. He seems happy and healthy to me, and enjoys being handled. Keep doing what you're doing and ignore the haters. I love the big birds, but the beak scares me so I probably won't ever have one of my own. I bird-sat an Umbrella Cockatoo and that was enough for me!
yes! he jumps, flaps his wings, fluffs out his head feathers so it looks like he has "big hair", and makes his siren noise! We just LOVE him so much, he is a real character!
not good to hold them like that. petting should be limited to neck only. anywhere else could be mistaken for mating rtiuals. then if they pair bond to you, problems could arise. feather plucking, self mutilation, biting. moluccans & umbrella's are notorious for this.
I don't subscribe to that belief system. We've had Paco for a few years and have always treated him and everyone else in this manner and there have never been any problems. I bet you don't think birds should sit on your shoulder either.
I feel bad for any bird that comes across you for an owner. Birds love being cuddled, petted and so on. My bird does. I've had her for over 10 years now and she's the happiest thing ever. Plucking and mutilation only happens when you don't treat a bird right. Makes me wonder if that's ever been an experience of yours...
no its not crap, a diet that doesn't have enough protein may cause a parrot to pluck its feathers, a diet too low in fat will may cause plucking in african grays. Each bird metabolizes nutrients differently, so a diet that works for one may not work for another.
Parrots that are exposed to chemicals may pluck their feathers because they are trying to get the chemicals off their feathers. Smoke can linger on a parrots feathers as well as other toxins which may lead to self mutilation.
@lindiortega its strickley emotional! ask any bird docter! i have been around parrots my whole live and they will only pluck if they are stressed, sad or are emotionally disturbed!
Do you even HAVE a bird?? I have seen cockatoos in bird stores who self mutilate AFTER the owner got busy with a new job, or stopped paying attention. They mutilate out of loneliness and rejection. Bird rehabilitators say the best thing is to hold, cuddle and talk to them every day, then the anxious behavior subsides. They crave love and affection.
and we are just crazy about him. not sure how old, he is adopted. we think he's over 25, he was wild caught and I know these wonderful beings have not been able to be legally imported since 1992. he is quite the character. I'd love to get him doing a high five, well, with him it would be a high four! thanks for your comments!
well, I think it's pretty adorable but I have no idea why someone would think it was sad like the last comment! Oh well, thanks for your positive feedback
I meant it wasn't funny that our cockatoo, Coco, screams Aflac at the top of his lungs. We loved your video. Read my first line...I absolutely loved yours...and wish we could hold ours like you are able to do.
Ohhhhh that is sooo funny!!! Love it! Thats wild how you hold him ,I may try that with Coco.....My bird screams AFFLAC so loud you can hear him 4 houses down. Its not funny LOL
So long as you have no intention of getting married, having kids, or travelling, go ahead! These birds live to be atleast 80, they love routine and are easily stressed, which causes them to pluck out their feathers. Get a budgie instead.
THAT IS SSSOOO ADORABLE! if i tried that with my moluccan cockatoo, she probably bight my nose OFF literally! we give our bird the left over bones from out cooked chicken and she bights the bone open and eats the bone marrow! IM NOT KIDDING! i will make a video and reply whit it onto the video! like i said IM NOT KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paco is such a lover, the only two times he has bitten me (and bitten hard, I might add!) was when I was holding Bogie, our other M2 and Paco got insanely jealous!
Such a lovely cockatoo! He is a bird to be proud of. Sounds like he has found his forever home! I have 2, one I have had since 6 months, who is now 12, and one who was homeless due to the death of his owner...he is now 47!
thank you so much for your kind words! He is, indeed, a very special bird. Sometimes we think he's a little human with feathers! We have 4 too's (we are a little bit nuts) 2 Moluccans, 1 goffins cockatoo, and a greater sulphur crested cockatoo along with some other parrots and countless (almost) keets, finches, and canaries. and then there's the chickens, dogs, and 1 lonely kitty. We have our hands full but they bring us so much joy! now if we could just cut down a bit on the screaming!
we're not sure how old he is, we adopted him from a friend of ours who had had him passed on to him. the person who passed him on to us thought he was about 18 years old at the time so if that is accurate, he's about 21 now. He is a trip, a very loving character!
cutenessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss i love it
Funny, I feel like both the rude comments and the nice ones come both from bird lovers alike =)

I wish people on here would grow up, or at least know what they are talking about before they comment. He seems happy and healthy to me, and enjoys being handled. Keep doing what you're doing and ignore the haters. I love the big birds, but the beak scares me so I probably won't ever have one of my own. I bird-sat an Umbrella Cockatoo and that was enough for me!

you are so right these haters annoy me so much
armandsprincess 2 years ago
@needanap624 sure because if they bite you they can cut your finger off xD ( obviosly bite with all their strength and not when they play )

cadetcody420 2 years ago
yes! he jumps, flaps his wings, fluffs out his head feathers so it looks like he has "big hair", and makes his siren noise!

RKZX2 2 years ago
I don't subscribe to that belief system. We've had Paco for a few years and have always treated him and everyone else in this manner and there have never been any problems. I bet you don't think birds should sit on your shoulder either.
jeannieo 2 years ago 9
I feel bad for any bird that comes across you for an owner. Birds love being cuddled, petted and so on. My bird does. I've had her for over 10 years now and she's the happiest thing ever. Plucking and mutilation only happens when you don't treat a bird right. Makes me wonder if that's ever been an experience of yours...

plucking and mutilation also occurs when there are toxins in the food or toxins in the air that compromise the immune system.
lindiortega 2 years ago
@lindiortega thats complete crap!
superchase08 2 years ago
no its not crap, a diet that doesn't have enough protein may cause a parrot to pluck its feathers, a diet too low in fat will may cause plucking in african grays. Each bird metabolizes nutrients differently, so a diet that works for one may not work for another.
Parrots that are exposed to chemicals may pluck their feathers because they are trying to get the chemicals off their feathers. Smoke can linger on a parrots feathers as well as other toxins which may lead to self mutilation.
lindiortega 2 years ago 5
@lindiortega its strickley emotional! ask any bird docter! i have been around parrots my whole live and they will only pluck if they are stressed, sad or are emotionally disturbed!
superchase08 2 years ago
Do you even HAVE a bird?? I have seen cockatoos in bird stores who self mutilate AFTER the owner got busy with a new job, or stopped paying attention. They mutilate out of loneliness and rejection. Bird rehabilitators say the best thing is to hold, cuddle and talk to them every day, then the anxious behavior subsides. They crave love and affection.

Now thats friendship :D Parrot loves you a lot . How old is he\she?
oggys1 2 years ago 5
and we are just crazy about him. not sure how old, he is adopted. we think he's over 25, he was wild caught and I know these wonderful beings have not been able to be legally imported since 1992. he is quite the character. I'd love to get him doing a high five, well, with him it would be a high four! thanks for your comments!

I meant it wasn't funny that our cockatoo, Coco, screams Aflac at the top of his lungs. We loved your video. Read my first line...I absolutely loved yours...and wish we could hold ours like you are able to do.

So long as you have no intention of getting married, having kids, or travelling, go ahead! These birds live to be atleast 80, they love routine and are easily stressed, which causes them to pluck out their feathers. Get a budgie instead.

MissPickletoes 3 years ago 2
thank you so much for your kind words! We have our hands full but they bring us so much joy! now if we could just cut down a bit on the screaming!

so adorable! how old is he?
azsjoden 3 years ago
we're not sure how old he is, we adopted him from a friend of ours who had had him passed on to him. the person who passed him on to us thought he was about 18 years old at the time so if that is accurate, he's about 21 now. He is a trip, a very loving character!
