Not exactly adobe. Mostly dirt from our yard in Central Arizona, & mixed in some sand, clay and straw. The walls are 7" thick. WE start a fire inside with the door open. When the fire has burnt down to glowing hot embers we put the door in and the heat "soaks" into the walls. After 30 or 40 minutes you can scrape out the coals and put the door back in. The inside temperature is almost 1000 deg F by then, but comes down to around 450 degrees fairly quickly and then we start cooking.
