Hey Gary! I'm trying to catch up with LOST here, just finished watching E3S4 episode, thought i'd also catch up with you reviews on the way! Interesting theory about the "Oceanic Six", I guess I will agree on that, I have no better idea so far. Speaking of the time test, I think there's definitely something weird going on around this island, that's why he said that to the pilot to stay on the exact same bearing they came to the island, like its the only way to get there safely.
I'm not sure if Charlie is dead or not... remember when he came to "visit" Hugo in the mental hospital. Hugo's friend at the hospital could also see Charlie. If Hugo was imagining it, how did the other guy see it aswell?
I hope he's not dead. he was the reason i tuned into the show the first time to begin with! I thought to myself "What's the deal with this show that has one of the hobbits on it?" LOL
I like this season as well... Different. As what they had said from last season... The show will end in 2010. JJ knows how the show will end. Is all about putting all the pieces together. They are all scrambled. My friend and I have come up with the theory of the island been (The Garden of Eden)... There are names from the bible among the new characters. If we get to see the apple tree...w will be getting closer and closer to the answers we all seek.
Hey Gary, yeh I've been watching this season; however I think I missed like a season-and-a-half before this, but I figure I'm gunna have about 50 new questions/maybe 1 answer each episode, so I'll be quizzical anyways. I think this recap/discussion here is a very nice idea, especially for those theories/spoileresque things that can help to level the playing field.
Anywho, I usually talk with my mom after the show to go over stuff, whee. Take it easy man, and thanks for the info. =)
Also just learning of the Podcasts and feel I've been cheated. I like your theory of the 6 selling them out. (My theory of it taking place in Hugo's head was a simplistic way to answer everything not unlike the ending of St. Elsewhere and the Bobby Waking up season of Dallas.) I knew it was Ben as soon as he spoke and was still in shock when they showed him. I like your theory about the healing entity/entity of evil...which makes me question Locke even more.... THANK YOU!
You are very welcome! So i'm assuming you think i should do these reviews on a weekly basis? If I do the disclaimer, my regular viewers should eventually know that they can just skip these.
Not only do I think you should do it weekly, I think I may start spamming some folks if they don't comment weekly to share their take on the events. I said it earlier... the comment section is like a paradise and I like being able to read others thoughts without visiting the boards which I find overwhelming. It's comforting to know there are others out there, no pun intended. :)
Spam all you want! That would be great! What i want to do next week is to have ppl also comment on each other's comments...not just necessarily have me reply to all the comments, but create a dialogue with all! "There are others..." LO
If you only knew the restraint required to keep me from commenting to everyone. I didn't want to scare people off at the starting gate. Looking forward to future Lost sessions, however and whenever they arrive. :)
Thank you for that comment! The reason i made this is that I've had a few email conversations as well as chat AND real life conversations about the show all after the day of the original airing. I think the fans want a place to come and discuss!
Comment as much as you want! Obviously, these fans all WANT to talk about this! :)
OMG... just rewatched the third episode and am so delighted to watch this is...I'm commenting and I'm only at like 40 seconds. Real comment to follow. :)
Love the thread, but youtube's setup's so funky following who answers who's a Rubik's cube worthy of LOST, and next week, everybody'll forget what's said where!
Why Sawyer gets to make out with Kate, how that protects her better, beats me, when that's broadcast next week's episode. That must be some magic wand he's waving! (LOL)
I have only seen two episodes of Lost ever but hearing you talk about it I think that it must be a far more intricate and intelligent show that I initially thought.
Every week, the show just boggles my mind more and more. There are so many literary references as well as inter-personal connections and interwoven story lines. The plot os so introcate...I've never seen anything like it. It's slowly evolving into something far greater than when it started (which was still pretty damn good!) :)
That's why I think that Bender/Abrams are tracking this program on Microsoft Project, or some other relational database, which lets you interrelate subject matter plot and characters in an if-then sequence and clues you when you have disconnects.
As you know, I've never seen the show. But from the way you talk about it, clearly this is more than just your average serialized prime time drama.
Of course, I couldn't help but remember back to MY favorite Thursday night prime time drama and chuckle at how some of those plots sounded in my retelling.
what channel I am on.... I don't think joan van arc, and pull anything tighter than it is, and well I think charlene got that reduction that kept her one step from dollywood!
I remember things on Knots Landing getting weird one episode when they went into a haunted house or something.... And then when Lisa Hartman came back as a different character. Somehow or another, these far fetched stories still seem credible, if they're told right. And they're always SUCH a fun ride! :)
I'm a huge fan of Lost. I recommend watching the enhanced versions of the episodes on line. They give some clues. ONe is that in the first scene in episode 2? where we first see the physicist who starts getting really upset at the scenes of the plane, the women who he talks to is not his wife , but his care giver. Why does he need a care giver? It also gives all the answers to the names of the new people. It's kind of cool. I hope you do a Lost review next week. Bye!
I only saw bits and pieces of the enhanced version as i was doing some other things (from now on though i will watch the entire thing). I did see the bit about the caretaker. That guy does seem a bit off his rocker! But why? I really got a good response to this review...so chances are I will do more! :)
I didn't even think about that. But I have a theory to what Kate's up to off the island;she is married,or with Sawyer.Because on the season 3 finale she says "He's going to wonder where I am."
Yeah...I've wondered what that means. There's a theory floating out there that Kate got pregnant by Sawyer (when the had sex in the bear cages) and that the "He" in "He's going to wonder where I am" is actually referring to the baby! Far out, i know! :)
After this episode, I almost wonder if Kate's "him" is actually Ben. There seems to be a huge gap in between Kate returning to the world as a fugitive and seemingly living free when she goes to see Jack at the end of S3. It remains to be seen whether she's free because of Jack's lawyers (he's rich enough to hire good ones I'm sure) or because of Ben. I guess we'll be finding out more about pretty soon here!
Somethin tells me you'll be on the Most Discussed in no time!
A couple other things to add: the black dude's name is Matthew Abaddon, and if you do a Wiki-wiki on "Abaddon", you find that it is another word for hell. Among other things.
The hypersensitive scientist is Michael Faraday, same last name as the head scientist in "Flight Of The Navigator", which is a movie about a kid that leaves Earth on a ship, comes back a few hours later, and eight years have passed. Shezammo!
This is a fun discussion thread. If I do this next week, I want ppl to discuss things with each other as well as with me! :)
And those name are brilliant! I missed some of the enhanced version on Thursday, which talked about those things. That only adds more subtle hints to me about things like portals, alternate universes, time changes, etc.
OH yeah, to actually answer your question about when did we realize it was Ben that Sayid was working for. About halfway into the episode, either Sayid or Elsa (the girl) said something like "Everyone has a boss." I was in the Big-O chat on Talkshoe at the time and I just kind of typed in jokingly, "How much do you wanna bet Sayid's boss is Ben?" I didn't think that was gonna end up being it!
Having Ben be Sayid's boss is pure genius. This summer I plan on doing a marathon of the entire series, and that will make all of Sayid's dealings with him VERY interesting!
(part 3) Part of its design inevitably would be to take on the form of something from your memory, maybe because you'd be more likely to be honest with it then. Sure worked on Eko! Maybe Smokey has somehow become "self-aware" and now goes by the name Jacob. I got no clue about Jacob really, but the idea that the ash circle is Smokey in a dormant state is all kinds of awesome. Oh, one last thing.. I think you were referring to Sun's dad, not Jin's :D I LOVE Jin's dad though!
I always get Jin and Sun's names mixed up! I think Sun's dad will play a role in this all, which makes me think either Jin or Sun will be one of the 6.
Part of me thinks Smokey is part of the original Dharma experiment (If only Ben had gotten some answers about that before he wiped them out!) Maybe like a prototype for futuristic law enforcement, but in order for it to work, its judgment needed to be infallible. Ergo they needed people brought to the island to test it on. Then they had all the background information on each person sent to them, so they could take a look at who it kills, check out that person's past and see why it killed 'em.
It does seem like the smoke monster is a kind of judge and jury for the island, doesn't it? I don't think it's part of a manmade thing though..i think that's part of the supernatural part of the island. And didn't Locke look right into the eye of the monster? What does the monster know about Locke that we don't?
I actually know who the Oceanic 6 are (damnit) and ever since I found that out, I've given up spoilers for good. So I can't really talk about that. However, it is a huge mystery what exactly it is they're not "telling", why they're covering it up and most importantly, why it seems to be an emotional burden on them to do it. I absolutely LOVE the ash=smoke connection, that's awesome. I think at some point, the circle of ash was broken and that's how Jacob "escaped", now he's moving around.
I found out too and I wish I hadn't. I'm also done with spoilers. It put a damper on it. Hopefully , it will be revealed soon and other questions with emerge.
Yeah LOST vlog - okay where do I stand on this season....I hate it so far lol.
-btw you missed Rose :)
-Sayed working for Ben in hindsight makes so much since that I want to just shake my head...if you have to see the forshadowing on that I say check out when they caught Ben and watch it from this new perspective.
One of the reasons I don't like the season is because all of the character growth seems to of gone out the window (except for Locke and Kate...imo). continued....
Hugo is crazy and withdrawn again, Jack is a drunk again, Sawyer is out to save his skin...its like almost everyone returned to starting cast, i hate that.
-Smoke monster hasn't reared its ugly head since Echo, which sucks because you just know that has to "the island protector" or something like that, and that means it is slacking.
-About the time thing, I think its more then 30 minutes...keep in mind how long they were on the island, I think its a ratio, maybe an exponential ratio.
-I like the theory on the pregnant women except for that they die after being pregnant from the island but are fine prior to the island and as seem Claire was prenant and the baby wasn't healed out of her.
-Jin broke the law last year, stole a car or something, he is black smoke monster food. Sun is pregnant from the island, she is toast. Neither of them are making it off the island.
Tall Walt is from the future....not the 100 days since they were on the island. (Plus the kid actor has grown in the past 4 years since the show has been on the air!)
I love how once off the island, it seems like they are all returning to their own private hell...Showing that they really should have stayed on the island.
The smoke monster did show up one other time with Kate and Juliet when we find out about the sonic fence. And maybe it's not slacking...maybe it's sleeping...in the form of the ashes?
I am a huge Lost fan, and you have revealed stuff that I never even thought about! Reading thru the comments you said you think it might be Locke in the coffin....why do you think it is him? Also, where is the log cabin/house they keep looking for...why does it keep moving?? Is it real or is the island playing with their minds? We know that Kate is off the island, and that she originally stayed back at camp with Sawyer. Could she have talked him into leaving with her? Is he apart of Oceanic 6?
The reason a lot of ppl think it's Locke in that coffin is because nobody showed up at the funeral. Locke turned out to be a real pain in the ass on that island (or so it currently looks!) As for that log cabin...i have NO idea what's up with that? I'm beginning to think the island is messing with their minds, big time. For some reason, it just seems like Sawyer would leave the island if he knew Jack was there too. He's safe there...BUt who knows?
...and I love how everybody is adding their own little theories or questions to this discussion thread..which i hope adds to some of the fun of the show!
In reference to Sawyer, I remember him telling Kate..why would you want to go back, because she would end up in handcuffs, and basically there was nothing there for him as well...plus he killed a man b/4 getting on the plane. So with him saying that, it would put a big twist on the plots for him to actually leave. As for the coffin, I don't know why, I am thinking it is Jacks Dad, since he never got to bring him back to bury him...but I guess we will see!
Jack did make a comment about his dad in the season 3 finale...but i just made the assumption that he said it cuz he was drunk at that point.
It does seem odd that Kate would come back with her record. One theory a guy i work with has is that when they all come back, they get the status of celebrity, and as we all know, celebrities tend to get off easy on certain things. But Sawyer...that's the wild card with me right now.
Kate's return and face on the front page of every newspaper, with no recrimination for her past actions including homocide, tell me we are in an alternate universe created by the HANSO device. Going back in time creates alternate futures.
An innocent Kate might be just one of those unforseen outcomes.
I just wonder if something like an alternate universe won't be something way too frustrating for the fans of the show to accept. Kind of like the equivalent of it all existing in somebody's head.... Great points though. Wow.
True. I'm not sure if Walt comes back. We saw him at the end of last season...and I guess the thinking is that if you have Walt, you have Michael. Ben's spy? Interesting....
I am not going to watch your LOST vids man. NO offense..but I am scared of learning something. I'll leave you a comment though... maybe come back if I ever get to this episode!
That's why i put the initial disclaimer in the video as well as the description. I figured this was the only way to be able to talk freely about the show. I appreciate the comment and don't worry about not watching these vids...that's kind of why i did them much more casually too. Thanks again!
The polar bear excavation shows a fossilized bear with DHARMA tag, indicating, much as the mummified people in the cave, that the HANSO "transporter" works but sends things back in time. Our new red haired archeologist, a digger of antiquities, is thrilled as part of the project, to find the bear went "somewhere" even if in time.
TY yourdeadmeat69! unfortunately, I am still pondering this last episode, and wondering, why JOhn Locke has been thrown out of windows, kidney stolen, diabled, reabled, , crushed under a concrete wall, forced into (almost) patricide, left for dead in a pile of peeps, C'mon, this is just not a rut this boy is in.... Is he job of the island
Locke's life as subplot, may be just that, in Abrams Microsoft Project plan. 60-80 hours you can do a lot of subplots. X Files let alien issues rest to do other stuff.
Locke thinks all BEFORE is tied to "now", but maybe not Lost writers. Could be just old vrs new life post transforming event: 815 meets HANSO.
Note: If the island JUST has properties it's too cheap a plot line, like-"it's all dreams".
Abrams/Bender's better than that.
They'll read my posts, & aim higher.(LOL)-On Lost.
Hitchcock said, the story is the McGuffin, the distraction around which character development is the most important message. "Cloverfield" follows this, carrying character perspective by leveraging off of Godzilla.
In "LOST", the McGuffin, the deux ex machina, is made as important as the characters. Both co exist, and entice. It's brilliant in that it sucks you in wherever you want to be.
I listed out the gist of my theory, in the youtube post of the Dharma video with Dr. Halifax quite a while back. I like transporter with glitches based on speed, like time travel, versus out and out time travel because it layers more deeply into "out of control".
Look up Casimir effect in Wikipedia. You'll see, all you need to do is control the electrical spaces between particles, move the field through a wormhole, and you've invented a transporter.
"Transporters" work faster than light. A glitch is - time displacement. Two objects, like two Rabbit 15's are not supposed to exist same plane.
815 was caught in an attempt at rescue via transportr, or the plane hit the wormhole used by Hanso's experiment, why Faraday is crying over finding the drowned plane.
Ben thinks Hanso's device will cause catastrophic historic time shifts, so he's using Sayid to assassinate high level HANSO players.
Hanso Corporation, a former weapons manufacturer, beats weapons into plowshares 1970, working time travel or transporter a la Star Trek. Casimir effect has to do with electrical positioning of particulates. Control that, "memorize" where they are, and you can use wormholes to pass material instantly. "Dropout" can be fixed by printshopping missing material. It fixed Locke's crippled condition, and made Jack's dad come alive. Unexpectedly.
Thanks Gary I think its season 4 over here on Sunday nights at 9pmbst on skyone and RTE2 in Ireland Monday Nights at 10.
I must buy the dvds of all seasons so far but no rush as I have watched every episode since the start and am lost with whats happening in season 4 at the moment.
Yes I think I just spoiled episode 3 for myself tomorrow night, Said working for Ben, I watch every episode and keep em coming. The last episode was number 2 the Helicopter had landed with the 4 people and thats where it ended cause your an episode ahead in the states.
ok I won't be watching this but would you believe after an 18 mth break I have just rediscovered Lost, I was up until 4AM last night after having a 6 episode Lost marathin, I'm up S03E07
COOL!!! That's what I did with seasons 1 and 2. I stopped watching season 1 and then somewhere in season 3 i did a marathon of season 1, all of 2, and got caught up on 3 in just enough time to catch the last couple of episodes on TV when they aired. I'll keep the disclaimers coming anytime I talk about this show.
great post, I enjoyed reading the comments as well... Im just hoping at the end its not hurley , and his doctors are ben and locke trying to lock down his dosage.... or purgatory, that would be cruel.
The producers of the show have said time and time again that it's not purgatory or just happening in somebody's mind. Could you imagine the disappointment of it all if it was? And I think seeing the flash forwards shows us that it's not purgatory..that they are, in fact, alive.
No problem. I want to do this maybe weekly, but don't expect anybody to watch who doesn't watch the show or hasn't watched the most current episode yet...
With all the frustration I hear from regular viewers, I thought it best that I didnt get involved in this one. My roomie watches religiously and is constantly kvetching about it. A weekly vlog about the show is a great idea, like group therapy.
~And OMG what on Earth could ever make Sayid work for Ben. I just watched it again and Sayid said, "The day I start trusting him is the day I would have sold my soul." It must really be bad.
~Someone keeps arguing with me that Sayid was in the coffin. WTF would Jack go nuts over Sayid being in the coffin, I think it's Ben. Hoepfully.
Aww....very interesting. Well, if I knew Syid and Ben were running around, I'd probably feel safer in the home too! And they get to play connect 4! I love that game.
"Four" btw, is the first number in 4 8 15....thing. :)
They do round out the story, but I wanted them all to be happier when they left and it seems that none of them are...which makes your theory of selling everyone out stronger. (The comment section here is a paradise, btw.)
I think that's why this season as well as last season's finale has really bothered me so much. You so badly want these characters you care about to have a happy ending, but instead, you realize they were better off on the island! Hearing everybody's theories is really cool and is making my head swarm! LOL
~I hadn't heard the Narnia tei in, but I knew that Ben used the Henry Gale name when he said he landed in a hot ait balloon, because that was Dorothy's uncle in the Wizard of Oz.
~My theory is that Michael is Ben's contact on the ship.
I don't think 'sold out' is the right word. I don't know what but there is something mystical about the island. I think that the survivors of Ocianic Flight 815 were meant to be on that island... and that as they have left eventually they will realize they were meant to be there and want to find a way back.
I'm not sure what the meaning of ashes could be... I don't think it's connected to the black smoke monster. I was reminded of using a circle of salt form Buffy, as a protection shield.
Okay, off to see the next episode!

The Sayid&Ben "flashback" totally blew me away! I was like "WHAT??"

As you know, I've never seen the show. But from the way you talk about it, clearly this is more than just your average serialized prime time drama.
Of course, I couldn't help but remember back to MY favorite Thursday night prime time drama and chuckle at how some of those plots sounded in my retelling.

Bye!
Neelefe 4 years ago
I only saw bits and pieces of the enhanced version as i was doing some other things (from now on though i will watch the entire thing). I did see the bit about the caretaker. That guy does seem a bit off his rocker! But why? I really got a good response to this review...so chances are I will do more! :)

That's a very interesting theory about the monster.I think the remaining 2 of the Oceanic 6 will be Sawyer and Sun.
lebowskiwinnfield2 4 years ago
I wonder about Claire, though...and what happens to Jim? Personally, I don't think Sun will get off that island alive (because of the baby). Hmmmm?
anakin1814 4 years ago
I didn't even think about that. But I have a theory to what Kate's up to off the island;she is married,or with Sawyer.Because on the season 3 finale she says "He's going to wonder where I am."
lebowskiwinnfield2 4 years ago
Yeah...I've wondered what that means. There's a theory floating out there that Kate got pregnant by Sawyer (when the had sex in the bear cages) and that the "He" in "He's going to wonder where I am" is actually referring to the baby! Far out, i know! :)
anakin1814 4 years ago
After this episode, I almost wonder if Kate's "him" is actually Ben. There seems to be a huge gap in between Kate returning to the world as a fugitive and seemingly living free when she goes to see Jack at the end of S3. It remains to be seen whether she's free because of Jack's lawyers (he's rich enough to hire good ones I'm sure) or because of Ben. I guess we'll be finding out more about pretty soon here!
JealousGuy 4 years ago
If "him" is Ben, that would make it seem like Kate is almost his control or something.
anakin1814 4 years ago
Somethin tells me you'll be on the Most Discussed in no time!
A couple other things to add: the black dude's name is Matthew Abaddon, and if you do a Wiki-wiki on "Abaddon", you find that it is another word for hell. Among other things.
The hypersensitive scientist is Michael Faraday, same last name as the head scientist in "Flight Of The Navigator", which is a movie about a kid that leaves Earth on a ship, comes back a few hours later, and eight years have passed. Shezammo!
JealousGuy 4 years ago
This is a fun discussion thread. If I do this next week, I want ppl to discuss things with each other as well as with me! :)
And those name are brilliant! I missed some of the enhanced version on Thursday, which talked about those things. That only adds more subtle hints to me about things like portals, alternate universes, time changes, etc.
Faraday! Abaddon! Sheesh!!! That is so cool!!! :)
anakin1814 4 years ago
OH yeah, to actually answer your question about when did we realize it was Ben that Sayid was working for. About halfway into the episode, either Sayid or Elsa (the girl) said something like "Everyone has a boss." I was in the Big-O chat on Talkshoe at the time and I just kind of typed in jokingly, "How much do you wanna bet Sayid's boss is Ben?" I didn't think that was gonna end up being it!
JealousGuy 4 years ago
Having Ben be Sayid's boss is pure genius. This summer I plan on doing a marathon of the entire series, and that will make all of Sayid's dealings with him VERY interesting!
anakin1814 4 years ago
(part 3) Part of its design inevitably would be to take on the form of something from your memory, maybe because you'd be more likely to be honest with it then. Sure worked on Eko! Maybe Smokey has somehow become "self-aware" and now goes by the name Jacob. I got no clue about Jacob really, but the idea that the ash circle is Smokey in a dormant state is all kinds of awesome. Oh, one last thing.. I think you were referring to Sun's dad, not Jin's :D I LOVE Jin's dad though!
JealousGuy 4 years ago
I always get Jin and Sun's names mixed up! I think Sun's dad will play a role in this all, which makes me think either Jin or Sun will be one of the 6.
anakin1814 4 years ago
Part of me thinks Smokey is part of the original Dharma experiment (If only Ben had gotten some answers about that before he wiped them out!) Maybe like a prototype for futuristic law enforcement, but in order for it to work, its judgment needed to be infallible. Ergo they needed people brought to the island to test it on. Then they had all the background information on each person sent to them, so they could take a look at who it kills, check out that person's past and see why it killed 'em.
JealousGuy 4 years ago
It does seem like the smoke monster is a kind of judge and jury for the island, doesn't it? I don't think it's part of a manmade thing though..i think that's part of the supernatural part of the island. And didn't Locke look right into the eye of the monster? What does the monster know about Locke that we don't?
anakin1814 4 years ago
I actually know who the Oceanic 6 are (damnit) and ever since I found that out, I've given up spoilers for good. So I can't really talk about that. However, it is a huge mystery what exactly it is they're not "telling", why they're covering it up and most importantly, why it seems to be an emotional burden on them to do it. I absolutely LOVE the ash=smoke connection, that's awesome. I think at some point, the circle of ash was broken and that's how Jacob "escaped", now he's moving around.
JealousGuy 4 years ago
I saw one spoiler last year that said Charlie died. That was enough of those kinds of websites! Please don't tell me who they are! :)
I think the emotional burden has to do with them 6 somehow selling out the others on the island.
And interesting point about the circle being broken and Jacob escaping. They need to start clarifying that storyline JUST a bit!
anakin1814 4 years ago
I found out too and I wish I hadn't. I'm also done with spoilers. It put a damper on it. Hopefully , it will be revealed soon and other questions with emerge.
Neelefe 4 years ago
Yeah LOST vlog - okay where do I stand on this season....I hate it so far lol.
-btw you missed Rose :)
-Sayed working for Ben in hindsight makes so much since that I want to just shake my head...if you have to see the forshadowing on that I say check out when they caught Ben and watch it from this new perspective.
One of the reasons I don't like the season is because all of the character growth seems to of gone out the window (except for Locke and Kate...imo). continued....
ThOverdrive 4 years ago
Hugo is crazy and withdrawn again, Jack is a drunk again, Sawyer is out to save his skin...its like almost everyone returned to starting cast, i hate that.
-Smoke monster hasn't reared its ugly head since Echo, which sucks because you just know that has to "the island protector" or something like that, and that means it is slacking.
-About the time thing, I think its more then 30 minutes...keep in mind how long they were on the island, I think its a ratio, maybe an exponential ratio.
ThOverdrive 4 years ago
-I like the theory on the pregnant women except for that they die after being pregnant from the island but are fine prior to the island and as seem Claire was prenant and the baby wasn't healed out of her.
-Jin broke the law last year, stole a car or something, he is black smoke monster food. Sun is pregnant from the island, she is toast. Neither of them are making it off the island.
-Where the heck is eyepatch guy??
-Where the hell did the loyalty go??
-WTF with tall Walt???
-Guns a plenty???
ThOverdrive 4 years ago
Too many questions! LOLOL
Tall Walt is from the future....not the 100 days since they were on the island. (Plus the kid actor has grown in the past 4 years since the show has been on the air!)
anakin1814 4 years ago
I love how once off the island, it seems like they are all returning to their own private hell...Showing that they really should have stayed on the island.
The smoke monster did show up one other time with Kate and Juliet when we find out about the sonic fence. And maybe it's not slacking...maybe it's sleeping...in the form of the ashes?
anakin1814 4 years ago
Yeah...i forgot about Rose. She's one of my favorite characters!

Is he apart of Oceanic 6?
mtamorphis 4 years ago
The reason a lot of ppl think it's Locke in that coffin is because nobody showed up at the funeral. Locke turned out to be a real pain in the ass on that island (or so it currently looks!) As for that log cabin...i have NO idea what's up with that? I'm beginning to think the island is messing with their minds, big time. For some reason, it just seems like Sawyer would leave the island if he knew Jack was there too. He's safe there...BUt who knows?
anakin1814 4 years ago
...and I love how everybody is adding their own little theories or questions to this discussion thread..which i hope adds to some of the fun of the show!
anakin1814 4 years ago
In reference to Sawyer, I remember him telling Kate..why would you want to go back, because she would end up in handcuffs, and basically there was nothing there for him as well...plus he killed a man b/4 getting on the plane. So with him saying that, it would put a big twist on the plots for him to actually leave. As for the coffin, I don't know why, I am thinking it is Jacks Dad, since he never got to bring him back to bury him...but I guess we will see!
mtamorphis 4 years ago
Jack did make a comment about his dad in the season 3 finale...but i just made the assumption that he said it cuz he was drunk at that point.
It does seem odd that Kate would come back with her record. One theory a guy i work with has is that when they all come back, they get the status of celebrity, and as we all know, celebrities tend to get off easy on certain things. But Sawyer...that's the wild card with me right now.
anakin1814 4 years ago
Kate's return and face on the front page of every newspaper, with no recrimination for her past actions including homocide, tell me we are in an alternate universe created by the HANSO device. Going back in time creates alternate futures.
An innocent Kate might be just one of those unforseen outcomes.
Yourdeadmeat69 4 years ago
I just wonder if something like an alternate universe won't be something way too frustrating for the fans of the show to accept. Kind of like the equivalent of it all existing in somebody's head.... Great points though. Wow.
anakin1814 4 years ago
maybe it exists outside of time

anakin1814 4 years ago
what about the polar bear escavation, the lady with the red hair found earlier
kayleewyatt 4 years ago
I have no idea!
anakin1814 4 years ago
The polar bear excavation shows a fossilized bear with DHARMA tag, indicating, much as the mummified people in the cave, that the HANSO "transporter" works but sends things back in time. Our new red haired archeologist, a digger of antiquities, is thrilled as part of the project, to find the bear went "somewhere" even if in time.
Yourdeadmeat69 4 years ago
That is brilliant!
anakin1814 4 years ago
TY yourdeadmeat69! unfortunately, I am still pondering this last episode, and wondering, why JOhn Locke has been thrown out of windows, kidney stolen, diabled, reabled, , crushed under a concrete wall, forced into (almost) patricide, left for dead in a pile of peeps, C'mon, this is just not a rut this boy is in.... Is he job of the island
kayleewyatt 4 years ago
Locke's life as subplot, may be just that, in Abrams Microsoft Project plan. 60-80 hours you can do a lot of subplots. X Files let alien issues rest to do other stuff.
Locke thinks all BEFORE is tied to "now", but maybe not Lost writers. Could be just old vrs new life post transforming event: 815 meets HANSO.
Note: If the island JUST has properties it's too cheap a plot line, like-"it's all dreams".
Abrams/Bender's better than that.
They'll read my posts, & aim higher.(LOL)-On Lost.
Yourdeadmeat69 4 years ago
Hitchcock said, the story is the McGuffin, the distraction around which character development is the most important message. "Cloverfield" follows this, carrying character perspective by leveraging off of Godzilla.
In "LOST", the McGuffin, the deux ex machina, is made as important as the characters. Both co exist, and entice. It's brilliant in that it sucks you in wherever you want to be.
Plot, or character.
Yourdeadmeat69 4 years ago
WOW! That is quite the theory....And yeah, the character development is definitely the McGuffin here.
I've never thought about wormholes are part of the story...That's amazing!
anakin1814 4 years ago
I listed out the gist of my theory, in the youtube post of the Dharma video with Dr. Halifax quite a while back. I like transporter with glitches based on speed, like time travel, versus out and out time travel because it layers more deeply into "out of control".
Look up Casimir effect in Wikipedia. You'll see, all you need to do is control the electrical spaces between particles, move the field through a wormhole, and you've invented a transporter.
Problem: Moving at light speed.
Yourdeadmeat69 4 years ago
Wow.
anakin1814 4 years ago
LOVED the theory and would've read more...Peace.
girlganja 4 years ago
It's great, ain't it?
anakin1814 4 years ago
"Transporters" work faster than light. A glitch is - time displacement. Two objects, like two Rabbit 15's are not supposed to exist same plane.
815 was caught in an attempt at rescue via transportr, or the plane hit the wormhole used by Hanso's experiment, why Faraday is crying over finding the drowned plane.
Ben thinks Hanso's device will cause catastrophic historic time shifts, so he's using Sayid to assassinate high level HANSO players.
Of course, Ben's a "good guy". Remember?
Yourdeadmeat69 4 years ago
Hanso Corporation, a former weapons manufacturer, beats weapons into plowshares 1970, working time travel or transporter a la Star Trek. Casimir effect has to do with electrical positioning of particulates. Control that, "memorize" where they are, and you can use wormholes to pass material instantly. "Dropout" can be fixed by printshopping missing material. It fixed Locke's crippled condition, and made Jack's dad come alive. Unexpectedly.
Jacob and the smoke monster didn't materialize.
Yourdeadmeat69 4 years ago

I'll keep the disclaimers coming anytime I talk about this show.
anakin1814 4 years ago
great post, I enjoyed reading the comments as well... Im just hoping at the end its not hurley , and his doctors are ben and locke trying to lock down his dosage.... or purgatory, that would be cruel.
kayleewyatt 4 years ago
The producers of the show have said time and time again that it's not purgatory or just happening in somebody's mind. Could you imagine the disappointment of it all if it was? And I think seeing the flash forwards shows us that it's not purgatory..that they are, in fact, alive.
anakin1814 4 years ago
well they all looked like they were in their own corner of hell
kayleewyatt 4 years ago
Yes....VERY true! Although it looked like for all of them, they were in their own versions of hell BEFORE the plane crash too!
anakin1814 4 years ago
that is so true, I wonder how that many sad people could get on a plane. I mean, the sheer negative energy should have made it tank.
kayleewyatt 4 years ago
I think one of the best themes of the show is that the ppl actually find paradise without knowing it, and don't realize it until after the fact! :)

I have a few friends who i seem to talk with about this the following day at length...I figured i'd just open it up for discussion! :)
anakin1814 4 years ago
~And OMG what on Earth could ever make Sayid work for Ben. I just watched it again and Sayid said, "The day I start trusting him is the day I would have sold my soul." It must really be bad.
~Someone keeps arguing with me that Sayid was in the coffin. WTF would Jack go nuts over Sayid being in the coffin, I think it's Ben. Hoepfully.
Blizzeekitty 4 years ago
Everybody thinks it's been, which makes me think it's not. I'm thinking it's Locke for some reason. Who knows!?
And yeah, i loved what Sayid had to say, and then IS working for him. I wonder if Jack isn't working for him at the end too?
anakin1814 4 years ago
And who knows who else, all the Oceanic 6 could be. Maybe that's why Hurley feels safer in the mental hospital, too.
Blizzeekitty 4 years ago
Aww....very interesting. Well, if I knew Syid and Ben were running around, I'd probably feel safer in the home too! And they get to play connect 4! I love that game.
"Four" btw, is the first number in 4 8 15....thing. :)
anakin1814 4 years ago
And that is another thing... why is it the Oceanic 6 and not 4, or 8, or another one of the "numbers"? Questions, questions.
Blizzeekitty 4 years ago
Ah....Good point.
When Jack and hurley were playing Horse....One of them had "H-O"..H is the 8th letter the abcs, O is the 15th. Just like flight 815.
Did my head just explode there? LOL
anakin1814 4 years ago
I heard that! There was something else in that one with Ho... was it HoHo Chinese restaurant maybe? I can't remember.
All our heads are going to explode soon! :D
Blizzeekitty 4 years ago
I know!
Every time they show a number on the screen now, I will be looking to see if it fits! LOL
anakin1814 4 years ago
~And I think that the flash forwards will continue to happen before the last one did until they lead up to when and how they leave the island.
~The new questions usually piss me off, but I think I have made peace with them. It was aggravating getting one answer for every 100 questions.
Blizzeekitty 4 years ago
There are a lot of questions, aren't there? For me, seeing the flash forwards at least seems to round out the story a bit...
anakin1814 4 years ago
They do round out the story, but I wanted them all to be happier when they left and it seems that none of them are...which makes your theory of selling everyone out stronger. (The comment section here is a paradise, btw.)
girlganja 4 years ago
I think that's why this season as well as last season's finale has really bothered me so much. You so badly want these characters you care about to have a happy ending, but instead, you realize they were better off on the island! Hearing everybody's theories is really cool and is making my head swarm! LOL
anakin1814 4 years ago
~Ooo, I didn't relate the ashes to the smoke.
~Jack is also Claire's dad if anyone forgot.
~I hadn't heard the Narnia tei in, but I knew that Ben used the Henry Gale name when he said he landed in a hot ait balloon, because that was Dorothy's uncle in the Wizard of Oz.
~My theory is that Michael is Ben's contact on the ship.
Blizzeekitty 4 years ago
Michael on the ship!!!! I never thought of that! That's brilliant!
And yeah, the Wizard of Oz reference to Ben. Or is that saying that Ben is the man behind the curtain? Hmmm.
And yeah, Jack is actually Claire's 1/2 brother. jack's dad is also Claire's. Are they going to ever do anything with that?
anakin1814 4 years ago
Ben is totally the Wizard.
Blizzeekitty 4 years ago
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain! :)
anakin1814 4 years ago

anakin1814 4 years ago
I don't think 'sold out' is the right word. I don't know what but there is something mystical about the island. I think that the survivors of Ocianic Flight 815 were meant to be on that island... and that as they have left eventually they will realize they were meant to be there and want to find a way back.
I'm not sure what the meaning of ashes could be... I don't think it's connected to the black smoke monster. I was reminded of using a circle of salt form Buffy, as a protection shield.
