  • Death Grips > OFWGTKASLDFLALQ or whatever the fuck they want to call themselves. This is what Odd Futures is TRYING to be. and failing at.

  • this album is the reason why hip hop is dying

  • Death Grips has a vevo channel now. Stay posted for new videos.

  • guillotiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine HUAH!! love this mixtape

  • death grips shouldn't even be compared to anything odd future. wtf!!!

  • and bad brains

  • The frontmans name is Klink, right?

  • @DancesWithNarwhals It's MC Ride

  • Im a huge fan of OFWGKTA but this is wayyyy better than anything Wolf Gang has put out.

  • is dat sum flex your head I see on the right? all of your sins are now forgiven

  • I really like this. But I wonder how I would ever recommend this to someone without them running and screaming :P

  • I hate how people always bring up Tyler the Creator when they talk about Death Grips. I guess its so abrasive that they need to bring up that faggot cause they can't compare it to anybody else. If anything, You can compare Death Grips more to Throbbing Gristle and Cerebral Ballzy then you can OF.

  • was this free legal download?

  • @UseHERname93 Yeah, i'm pretty sure. I typed in something lik 'death grips interview' and the whole album was thier and you could download it free, i was wierded out by it too.

  • @MrItsabeautifulday yea thats crazy

ive been waiting to listen to the album til i could buy it but fuggit i guess

  • @UseHERname93 What's weirder is i'm pretty sure it's being released on cassette?

  • @UseHERname93 yeah, it's a mixtape (it means it's free). Anyone charging you for a mixtape doesn't understand the definition of a mixtape.

  • Face the fucking camera.

  • Really? An 8? whoa. I honestly cannot work out the appeal of these guys, I can't stomach two songs that I've listened to from them. I will be sure to listen to this whole album and try and understand the beauty in it. I might not survive though.

  • This album is one of my top gym soundtracks. From cover to cover it is solid!!! I wish there were vocals on the track 5D [the beat is sooooooooo heavy... DOPE]. Two thumbs and two toes up!

  • Hobo rap!!! dude you're hilarious.

  • real and raw as fuck

  • you never mentioned the pink floyd - interstellar overdrive sample in 'i want it i need it'

great review though, made me download it and i love it! thanks :)

  • angry, violent, hobo-rap. my favorite

  • @theneedledrops dude sorry to bug but guillotine from death grips was mothaFFukin mad sick . Props keep doin how u doin

  • This album gets better with repeated listens, no doubt.

  • dont compare tyler to him their mind sets are diffrent. but if you hate eithe rone of them u gotta admit u rather listen to them than miller or soulja boy or any other wack rapper

  • @LILDisADN I would say that Goblin is softcore horrorcore, and Exmilitary is an experimental horrorcore. you can compare them, and my opinion is that Death Grips is better.

  • @ProffesorChaosesFile nah man u cant take tyler serious horrorcore...

  • @LILDisADN Bastard was horrocore, and goblin was easy listening in comparison. I dont know what to think about tyler anymore. The rest of odd future isn't doing bad though. Have you heard mellowhype? Hodgy and leftbrain and it is great.

  • @ProffesorChaosesFile i like everyone except mike g

  • Yo Anthony, what would your rating on Exmilitary be these days? Since you made it #2 on your year end list I thought it might be higher than a decent 8 now. For me it's around a 9.5.

  • Think this may be the only hip hop album I really like.

  • @Xaxaar Well, that's a strange comment.

  • @Xaxaar This? ... Out of all the great hip hop albums, this? ... You must like some fucked up music.

  • @BlackStarKeepShining Why is that so hard to believe?

  • @ComradeDuckeh Because. Have you even heard another hip hop albums other than this?

  • @BlackStarKeepShining I like Illmatic, and Black Sunday, but outside of that, I'm really a metal head. Exmilitary is just a different take on things that I enjoy..

  • @ComradeDuckeh Oh, now wonder.

  • @Xaxaar It's really not hip hop. And if this is the only one you like, i feel bad for you. You listen to the radio and MTV too much.

  • @TheLukieBoi1 Some of my favorite albums are Choirs of the Eye, Spiderland, and Jane Doe...so not really radio or MTV.

  • @Xaxaar Fair enough.

  • Hobo rap lol

  • crap

  • this mixtape has "sorcery" written all over it. the more i listen to it, the more addicted i get to it... the hell?

  • The first time i listened to this mixtape it offended my hip hop sensibilities and i was reluctant to listen again but i was still curious to see what i would get out of future listens. Just recently i've begun to see this mixtape with new eyes, and i've actually found that i like it quite a good deal. imo it's a solid 7/10 right now but i like every song more and more with each listen. I think Exmilitary really expanded my horizons with hip hop and it has really allowed me to enjoy other exper

  • Great seeing this rank as #2 on your favourite albums of 2011. Thanks for introducing me to music that I would have otherwise never heard of.

  • Next up: langston blues

  • This album is so fucking hard dude.

  • stop comparing odd future to death grips you fucking idiots, its like comparing mariah carey to metallica.. two completely different types of music

  • goblin was overhyped hipster crap. dont get me wrong it had a few great songs on it. but the rest was just mysoginistic jibberish...death grips was goblin if it had lyrical meaning and had taken a high dosage of methamphetamine.

  • @HxCSounds oh it was crap because you didnt like it? Rite rite that is logical.

  • @MyDogBrownie well yeah. and like i said it was misogynistic and lacked good lyrics which is generally what you want in a rap/hip hop album.

  • Im listening to the review and downloading this at the same time... your review is getting me really pumped up into hearing this.

  • @chimchar545 so how'd you like it?

  • @stopsiqn it was really good. If you've listened to Bastard its a little like that (I felt a very dark tone) but with more heavier beats and instead of rapping in a regular voice the guy is yelling at the top of his lungs. But for me those weren't negative aspects and made the album more interesting for me. I would give it 9/10

  • I get the feeling that the "theneedledrop" loves listening to himself speak.

  • @narcolepticpathos yeah it's kind of annoying

  • Did I like it? Yes. I'm not listening to this as I drive around town though. Or with my friends. It's scares me man. It scares me.

  • youre a good reviewer but i hate it when you try to be funny, like just get to the review already, all that stupid shit in the begiinning

  • Which song has the link wray rumble sample! that's awesome!

  • Takyon is such a good song.

  • Oh, you have bad taste in music. You Like Horrible music, and ignore the good music

  • a side note, this CD starts with a quote from Charles Manson

  • Good review, and really...interesting recording. I don't remember how I stumbled on the Death Grips site, but by the time I got to "Spread Eagle Across the Block" I was laughing uncontrollably, in a good way. It's smart without coming off like smarty pants, and musically so raw and ridiculous....stagedive into a blackhole.

  • i cant beleive u gave radoihead a 6 and this drunken crazy violent hobo an 8 wat is wrong with u man u stupid balding hopster

  • Exmilitary kicked Goblin's ass so hard it's not even funny.

  • @evanisgay11 yesssss

  • @evanisgay11 definitely disagree

  • @TheM3talH3ad1 How can you disagree? Goblin was a pile of crap.

  • @Goofle11 well, because I liked it, duh. Death Grips ain't my kind of music, whereas Odd Future is. Just personal preference is all.

  • Great review, man! Thank you for the discovery!

  • do KeithCharles Spacebar- BeforeCommonEra

  • I cannot watch this dude talk

  • >That feel when this isn't on vinyl

  • god I hate this guy so much *facepalm*

  • This Anthony kid is pretentious

  • @fallenloki ..explain how?

  • I'm so happy I watch your videos, I liked Goblin, but this was FREE and BETTER

  • can you review

    XV - Zero Heroes Mixtape

    please =))))

  • It looks like this discussion's been had already but I was wondering why people keep classifying this as hip-hop? Not claiming authority or anything but it just throws me aback. Musically it doesn't hit like hip hop at all. Rap is a style of vocal expression, you can rap without music just like you can have a hip hop track without vocals. They are used together a lot but not dependent. It's a culture too on the other hand so if DG feel they are then why not?

  • Album is DOPE AF

    Hobo Rap, niggah.

    L. O. L.

  • love these fucking reviews

  • @ theneedledrop so lemme get this straight......u gave GOBLIN A 4 i just listened to guillotine and it sounds like dubstep with a angry jamacian singing over it are u kidding me?

  • @DeezyisPrimo 2deep4u

  • @DeezyisPrimo the difference with Goblin and Exmiltary was Exmilitary was about more. Goblin was moreless an immature record made by a person that doesnt have a direction on how to come off the music

  • @DeezyisPrimo You have no idea what dubstep is if you think it sounds like dubstep. It has a sub bass in it. Dubstep is characterized by the heavily oscillating bass. big difference.

  • @DeezyisPrimo when he said "Hobo Rap", that pretty much sums it up. The album is nothing short of..art. It really paints a picture in your head about this person, and PEOPLE, period. The thoughts you'd think a homeless man, possibly a Vietnam Vet (Hence.."Ex-Military"), and how'd he'd view his life, what beliefs he's taken up in the decades AFTER, the possible post traumatic stress he suffered FROM the war, etc....is all embodied and showcased in this album. The review, was spot on IMO.

  • I don't like the, but this opened my eyes i might look into them

  • I really have to thank you for this, I've finally found a way to really get into hip-hop because of this :)

  • I was so looking forward to seeing how you'd rate this against shabazz palaces - but you gave it the same rating! as well as danny brown! I got the vibe you enjoyed listening to shabazz more than this? you need to start bringing in decimals! Anyway not hating keep doing your thing! Love your work. P.S. if Bike for Three! (Buck 65's crew) do an album you should review them, i would of loved to hear what you thought of that album.

  • this was fuckin dope

thanks for showin me this fantano

  • I not only agree with the ATR comparison (at least the classic old ATR with Hanin & Carl, not the shitty new version of ATR) but I've written that many places on the internets (perhaps you were talking about that).

Anyhow, I feel like when anyone tries to compare Exmilitary to anything, they never mention the 3 most obvious groups/albums: Techno Animal "Brotherhood Of The Bomb", Ice "Bad Blood", & Fever "Too Bad But True". They really pioneered this aggressive noisy hiphop back in the 90s.

  • I don't know if any of you know this yet, but Death Grips released the stems for this entire album for free download. So yeah, remix time.

  • love this album 2

  • love this album

  • I love this album

  • I love this album, I've been searching for music like this for a long time, extremely unique.

  • @lurkerwill Check out B L A C K I E from houston, more unique noisy hip hop.

  • Sactown loves you DEATH GRIPS!

  • Comment removed

  • Fuckin' love this Album.

  • dude, thanks so much for this!

  • fuckin hate this album

  • i went into this video, not knowing you, and thinking, "oh this guy's gonna be gay"... but i like how you described the album. not too shabby.

  • like the album, hate you.

  • Haha! "A louder, angrier, RZA". So true.

  • Best album you've ever introduced me to. Thank you.

  • @TehSkullKrusher what's your favorite track on the album?

  • @sab24k Klink ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @TehSkullKrusher haha with the black flag sample. nice!

  • @sab24k Klink ;)

  • i lol'd at the kanye west insert of a death grips review ...

    your dope dude i sub

  • I know exactly what you mean about most people not liking it. I've showed this to a few of my friends and they hate it, they think it's garbage. I can understand why, this is an acquired taste, like most of the music I listen to. I listen to mostly Death Metal, Grind, Thrash and oldschool Hip-Hip (like Wu-Tang & Onyx). I was pretty surprised at how taken back I was and how intense this was to me, considering what I'm already used to. I love it, can't wait for more by them. So new and different

  • This album is fucking awesome: Thanks needledrop

  • review hopsin 'raw' album too!

  • It's pretty weird that he shits all over sleigh bells for being "loud" and having all sorts of obnoxious production, yet loves this. Somewhat inconsistent?

    w/e, both albums rule.

  • I can honestly say this is one of my most favorite "hip-hop"(if i can even call it hip-hop) albums ever.

  • Thanks for introducing me to this Anthony. Keep it up.

  • love this entire album. Best shit.

  • There so fuckin sick!

  • This album sounds like it could've replaced the montage Alex was forced to watch in A Clockwork Orange! Ugly, ugly album but I love it!

  • GUILLOTINE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • zach hill?? serious???

  • i'm actually fairly partial to Tackyon (Death Yon). I completely agree in saying that this is really reminiscent of the first time I heard Atari Teenage Riot as a teenager. Very heavy, very dissonant and ugly, with a lot of noise that just really brings to mind some crazy meth head hobo living on the streets. Heavy stuff, but yeah, not for everyone.

  • 8/10? very high

  • he trippin i love that shit haha

  • mogwai fuck yeah

  • "angry mad hobo rap" ... wow how strangely on point that is

  • death grips is mad decent

  • ohhhh man !!! thx for bringing this to my attention...what a damn fine tape !!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • you can tell an intelligent man when you hear him...the needle drop is the best...a very good detailed review...thanks for introducing this group to my knowledge..

  • I fucking knew it, first time i heard this album i went straight to needledrop, and YES!!! i got the response i needed.... This is exactly the sort of reviews i want.... no bullshit!!! xx

  • it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes

  • Also, I had to listen to this thing 4 times before I realized it was really fucking genius. I would NOT say it's something you could enjoy on your first listen.

  • This album is 100 times more ground-breaking and far more edgy than ANYTHING Odd Future has done.

  • haha you said something about Goblins on this video and mentioned this video on the Goblins review :D wierd connection!

  • I suffer from The Needle Drop Syndrome, I can't watch the whole video because I HAVE to listen to the album.

  • This is probably the best thing you have introduced me to. Thanks a lot.

  • one of the best albums of the year hands down

  • Lol this is nearly perfect. idk who the hell this needle frames guys is but this is def a great album. As music? Maybe not to those sleigh bells commenters but I think it is CLEAR that the noise aspect of this social commentary is significant

  • love it

  • Really enjoy the energy and stream-of-consciousness lyrics. thanks for the rec.

  • Could you review Earl Sweatshirt's EARL?

  • Review Hopsin!

  • You should get over to England. we've had this style of Heavy Grime Garage dance hall for years . And it seems U.S are just picking up on it..

  • I love you Anthony, but I don't see how you can say My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was a sub-par album at a 6/10, while also saying you couldn't stand the loudness behind a band like Sleigh Bells' album "Treats" (which I enjoyed), yet, this album is equally, if not, louder and more obnoxious than that, and it gets an 8/10.

not everything that is original is good. this music is okay, it's not bad, but it's not great. I'm merely making a comparison of this reviewed music to your other work.

  • @eb0nikz In all fairness, Sleigh Bells is pretty obnoxiously loud. Like, I always have to turn down the volume when the CD comes up, though Treats is brilliant.

Death Grips was going for something a little different then Sleigh Bells where as SB was trying to go for that 'loud' album while DG was going for something a little more serious.

    Both are great albums though

    \

  • great review, great band, will check more of your vids. well done.

  • @distortedV12 how is he trash!??? his references and metaphors are impeccable! I seriously wanna know your reasoning behind that statement!

  • When i first listened to this the first two tracks pretty much made me turn my back on it.

But Spread Eagle is soo good and the rest of the mixtape is up hill from there.

Culture shock has one of the best beats of all time also

  • @Dankscarver up "hill" i see what you did there

  • @Dankscarver That's the same exact way that I feel about the album.

  • ....what album doesnt start with a Charles Manson sample?

  • review earl sweatshirt

  • I absolutely hate 99% of rap music and I thought that this record was goddamn brilliant. Certain bits sounded a little too "FL studio" but the genius was in the absolute chaotic insanity. A few terrible songs, but it opens and closes just well enough. It's pure unadulterated tribalistic evil.

  • review CHILDISH GAMBINO!

  • @IanandFriendsOnly Childish Gambino is trash.. but I would like to know if the needle drop shares the same perception. So I agree.. REVIEW CHILDISH GAMBINO!

  • @Mooktopia I think he's ruggedly handsome...

  • TWAT, this well annouying laters

  • the RZA comparison was exactly what i was thinking last night when i listened to this album

  • I like how you push your glasses up and then they immediately slide back down. That said, nice review - I love this album.

  • Damn, not sure if I had done this already, but I should definitely thank you for letting me get in touch with this, I love this album!

  • This album changed me in ways i can't explain, i and have only you to thank. Truly amazing lyrics, too bad people don't realize. I come from a small country, i know i will never see them live ( if that's possible btw) but still, true artists will never die.
