  • In county golliv, southern ireland, the name Trelawney is not a happy name! that is because we had one of them - obviously an ANGLO-cornish - scaring the shite out of us. Listen to the words of THE FIELDS OF ATHENRY rebel song for more details. But this particular one was more anglo than cornish or even celt. however, as the scottish national anthem s says ...

IT IS IN THE PAST AND IN THE PAST IT MUST REMAIN.

Aren't those lovely words? read them aloud fifty times.

  • why did cornwall ever join england

  • @DoctorWhoFanAndrew - she was brutally colonized by england. read up more on it, please, and on celtic nationalism.

  • @DoctorWhoFanAndrew - she was colonized by england.

see any book on celtic nationalism for further details.

  • @DoctorWhoFanAndrew Cornwall never joined England

    Cornwall was stolen by England

  • So was many counties in the west, do you see Lancastrians or Cumbrians making as much noise as the Cornish?

  • @soulofthenorth but the Cornish identity has been kept alive and for ever will.

last battle between Cornish and English was i believe 1497 lead by Michael An Gof and reached LONDON so not really long ago.

cornwall is celtic nation just as much as Wales Scotland Ireland isle of man and brittany.

  • @Pro13east What defines Celtic? I am of Celtic blood in Lancashire, does that mean my county is not Celtic? I am proud to belong to England and Lancashire, infact (even though im of Celtic blood) I see the Cornish as traitors for turning there back on the union.

  • @soulofthenorth the cornish do not turn there back to the union we like the idea of the united kingdom.

but we turn out backs to England as we are not English.

Cornish and English have so many differences its unreal known fact the cornish was around before england

  • @Pro13east So you trying to say that the Cumbrians and Lancastrians are not Celtic and should be called English? We are Celtic to so what makes the cornish any different? Personally im fine with being called English as i see it as what part of the world im from rather than the cornish views of culture etc etc

  • @soulofthenorth the recognised celtic nations to date are Cornwall Wales Scotland Ireland isle of man and Brittany. ( all with their own language still spoken today )

Cumbrians was celtic and did have a home rule language but evetualy settled down and become english, and have no current nationlists. as forLancastrians i am not sure about im not sure they had any Celtic influence but was under Brythonic Celtic when cornwall and wales ruled most of the UK before being pused back by the saxon

  • @Pro13east Lancastrians spoke under Cumbric, Cumbria. Cornwall is not recognised as a celtic nation, all the other you listed are but not Cornwall.

  • @soulofthenorth Cornwall is listed as a Celtic nation look it up on the Celtic league the langue kernenewek is even recognised by England and the united kingdom was recognised and listed in 2002 i belive

  • @Pro13east Judging by your spelling i believe newt son.

  • @soulofthenorth i am shite at spelling i dont care but i know my facts.

and Cornwall is recognised as a Celtic nation is official.

end off cant argue with it becuase its true

  • @Pro13east It can not be a nation whilst it is another nation. Cornwall IS England so Cornwall cant be a nation...

  • @soulofthenorth aye true but by the celtc league like mentioned before it is a celtic nation. i sayed was a celtic nation not a full independant nation

yes it is a part of England but is not treated as such.

and one day will have recognition as notational minority but remain in the UK.

  • @soulofthenorth -Cumbria used to be part of Cymru and 'The Old North'. They were the Brets (i.e.Brythons - Ancient Britons). The Welsh are the rump of the Britons who were left after the Anglo-Saxon genocide. The Cumbrians originally went with the Welsh and then they were lumped in with Scotland for a time (eg William Wallace was a descendant of those people). Cornwall was always a separate nation the Cornish-Britons (Cornu-British). See:Wace,Layamon,The Bruts, Geoffrey of Monmouth,Corineus.

  • @cornubian Anglo-Saxon genocide? Please enlighten me. According to all physical evidence, there was no genocide. The Anglo-Saxons merely assimilated into the dominant Briton population. If you mean cultural genocide, then you would be correct.

  • @Lkonae Analysis of the differences to the Y chromosome found in communities across the island going east to west confirm that the male population in the east was different to that of the west. Further the Anglo-Saxon genocide of the British/Brets/Brythons/Keltoi/Khumri/Cimmeroi carried on into the Early Modern Period. 900 unarmed Cornishmen were murdered at Clyst St Mary in 1549. There were also genocidal campaigns by Saxons/English in Cornwall in 1497; 1549AD; 838AD;

  • ahh good old cornwall love it here

  • We are circulating a petition calling on the government to recognise the Cornish as a National minority. It has been created by a Cornish person who is not a member of any political party or organisation but who is very concerned at what is happening in Cornwall. Please sign it and pass it on to your friends. We want to protect what there is left before all is lost !:

  • @cornubian I used to live in Cornwall but have not been back for many years. What is happening in Cornwall that you are very concerned about?

  • So much romantic mythology here. Firstly Oppenheimers research has demonstrated that a minimum of 90% of ALL British are Brythonic. When the Teutonic tribes invaded, most did not run west, the majority stayed. The Teutonics were more advanced hence the Germanic language influence, but never represented more than 10% max.The Kingdom of Elmet in Yorkshire for instance spoke Brythonic & were independent until 640AD under King Llaunnog ap Masgwid, hence place names surviving like Pen-Y-Ghent today.

  • @ALBIONTYKE 2/- The Cumbrians also kept the language going for a long time after the Invasion of the Normans & was called Rhagead.(dispute on the spelling) We are all the same blood. We pre-dated the Celts even ( who were east European) & have been here for 7 to 14 K years. We all originate from the Basque shelter in the last Ice Age, we are not even Indo-European, our closest kin are Basques. Ironically the Bretons joined the Normans & slaughtered many of the Cornish in later battles. Sorry.

  • @CornishNeverEnglish:- Meur ras. It is the duty of every Kernowyon to sign this petition. I will pass the message on. Please contact Colin Murley at The Stannary Parliament (if they are not already involved) to spread the word.

    Kernow Arta. Kernow Arta.

  • @CornishNeverEnglish Unfortunately you will have to help the UK out of the EU before any Cornish petition is worth the paper it's written on. The EU have very advanced plans in place to break England up into 9 regions plus Wales, N Ireland & Scotland all as individual states with no sovereignty whatsoever. The 9 English regions are North East England, The North West, Yorkshire, East Midlands , West Midlands, Eastern England, London The South & Wessex. We are now all controlled from Brussels.

  • The Bretons, many of whom came to Briezh (Brittany) from Kernow (Cornwall) in the 5th, 6th and 7th centuries flew the same flag but in reverse to the Cornish. This was (and still is) called in Breton "Gwen ha Du". It is a black cross on a white background. It represents the Britons and Cornish in their new land across the sea. This flag became the Breton Naval Flag. It was flown by the winning Breton contingent at the 'Combat of the Thirty' in 1351AD. The flag is shown on a painting from 1480AD

  • For those who are interested, the name of the Cornish flag in the ancient Cornish language (Kernewek) is:

    "Gwynn ha Du"

English="The White and the Black" from smelting a cross of white tin ore across the black stone from which it came. It is linked to Peran (St Piran) one of the National Patron Saints of Kernow (Cornwall). Peran landed and preached at Perranporth. This has a ruin of one of the oldest churchs in the British Isles. Others say it is thebinding of Christ and pagan Cornwall.

  • Proud To Be Cornish :D

  • Hey, i'm confused... I thought the Cornish national anthem was "Bro goth agan tasow"... so which one is the real national anthem of Cornwall eh? Still a great song but why it isn't sung in cornish? It will be better a thousand times... Long live to Cornwall, long live to all celts!!!

  • @Alex7BR yes, the official anthem is Bro Goth Agan Tasow (Land of my Fathers), but this is a more recent well known "national song" of Cornwall. A relationship kind of like what rule britannia is to britain, as a well known 'national song' but the official anthem is God Save the Queen.

I've made a video with a recording of this song actually sung yn Kernewek! It was a rare find so I thought i'd put it to video, check it out in my videos. You have to skip to 8:21 for the anthem tho

  • I've got to ask, what software do you use to get the text to scroll across the screen like that? Cos Win Movie Maker and Nero vision can only put about a sentence in

  • @TheMarrification Hi,Have a nice day I use just Windows Movie Maker.Slect a right slection, enclose subtitles in video.Click on "Subtitles into selected clip" Then Click on "Change of a subtitle animation" Then find the "tickertape" that let you to write you full texture.Good luck -moleye-
