'LORD' Buddha? Buddha said there is no god. So why do people call him 'lord'? By his own accord he's nothing more than MAN, a wise introspective man, but man non the less. Nothing mystical or religious about it. But boy have cultures twisted his words and beliefs. He said not to make and pray to statues and that's exactly what people do (pray to statues of Buddha) and simultaneously believing in a god too? Buddhism is a way of life, NOT a religion!

@ItsTiedToAStick The absorption of Buddhism into other cultures brought about the mysticism that surrounds Buddha. You know this, no doubt, There's a large bronze Buddha statue in a local establishment near me. There's an obvious sign of wear on the belly of that statue because so many people have rubbed it for good luck over the years.. People can't help themselves and tend to attach divinity to those of significance.

@bipinnagarale ...I too admire the common sense of the kalama sutta. But we need to be careful that in trying to condense the message we do not end up (inadvertantly) distorting it...the quote you refer to is:

Hi Buddhism is not teaching and preaching. Buddhism is the practical life. There is not important to false belief. Buddha's Teaching is on the Experience and preaching. First walk on the Path of Buddhism and explore yourself instead of exporing books and literature. It is waste of time. Buddhism is within you and outside the world. How to explore Buddhism. You have to find out with your own conscious and unconcious mind. Exploring self mind behaviour and improving self personality is Buddhism.

M.K. Gandhi was not a spiritual being like Budha. While M.K. Gandhi was a person of uncommon nature, he was not an enlightened human as much as Budha.

Budha was the father of a way of life, mistakenly called a Religion. M.K. Gandhi was a Politician, and I do not intend to discredit him.

M.K. Gandhi would have preferred no statues at all.

Budha also has many statues in his image, like Krishna, Shiva, Rama or Sita or Christ.
