  • Try removing your lighter once the Flambe begins. I use this technique. Once the Flambe goes out without the assistance of the lighter I feel like that's the sweet spot and you don't loss any flavor. So the lighter is lit less than a second but the Flambe is much longer.

  • @TechNickAll That's exactly right, though it takes a little time for certain cigars to "catch" the flame. The one in the video didn't need to be purged so I kept the light in place longer to see if the chemicals would catch. Even if you over-light the foot while purging, you won't lose any flavor because you are blowing any unwanted chemicals outward.

  • Learnt it from you works all the time heads up to you....

  • I stumbled on this vid while smoking a Cuban Reject and It was getting bitter coincidence? I think not I did the Purge technique you showed and mmmmm Fresh again THANKS DOC.

  • Hi Doc, I've only been smoking recently and am I glad I found this video, I never understood how people smoked through most of the cigar without that harsh flavor, but now I do. thank you for your advice!

  • Its raining out here and im sitting infront of the computer smoking and looking up cigar video's.

As a begginer I just tried both purge's on a Bahia Blu torpedo and noticed it kept the cigar tasting fresh and tasty !!

Thank you for teaching me a valuable cigar technique

    Doc..you are.. the MAN !!

  • hahahahaha i loved the exorcist reference.

  • Thats a biggie!

  • @MATTx602 Thats what she said ;)

  • Hey I love your videos. You really make want to smoke another cigar. And I am really happy you responded to my comment so fast. You just earned another subscriber. Keep the good videos going.

  • @Cennor11 Thanks for the kind words. I will try to keep the videos coming. Take care, Doc

  • How long have you been smoking cigars and how often do you smoke one?

  • @Cennor11 Don't remember when I started, but probably about 1-2 a day.

  • another quick question. when lighting a cigar why do you not suck in when lighting like you do if you were smoking a cigarette.

  • @dougpryce92 You do take a pull when lighting, but not until you've got the coal heated sufficiently. Cigarettes but quickly and burn hot, but cigars have a higher moisture content and you want to make sure the coal is entirely heated prior to drawing. This keeps the incompletely burned and other charred chemicals from getting drawn into the cigar and affecting the taste.

  • @dougpryce92 cause you'd get sick. cigars aren't meant to be inhailed. you just taste them and smell them.

  • @jackthecurmudgeon i know that. i wd still keep the smoke in my mouth but instead of just 'toasting' the cigar so to speak i was asking whether you could just suck while lighting it in the way you do with a cigarette. anyway thanks for your advice.

  • this may be a stupid question but where can i buy these long cigars. wherever i go all you can get is the small ones! (i'd rather not buy them online)

  • @dougpryce92 You can find longer cigars at any local retail tobacconist. Look up "tobacconist" in your Yellow Pages.

  • Tried this the other day after watching your video...was truly amazed at how positive of a difference it makes to the smoking experience. Freshens up the smoke beautifully and also keeps it burning nice and even. Thanks for the tip!

  • @jono16 Cool! Glad to hear it helped out.

  • Hey Doc, i had some cigars rolled for me, they looked awesome, i couldnt wait to get home and smoke 1. BAD IDEA. I started smoking, and then i had to stop. The taste was so bad, like smoking furniture/glass cleaner. I purged, but no luck . it even numbed my tongue. I still have a full box left over in my humi. Do i wait a few months to see if they change or throw them out ???

  • @exprime8 I would hang on to them. Lock them away in a humidor and let them rest for at least 3 months. Try them again, I think you will be surprised by the change.

  • @e5588849 Cool. Let us know how it works.

  • I did this trick and it does work.

  • I try yo techniques and it is just amazing. Thanks for this video.

  • wow i have been doing that for a while and never knew that.

  • Wow! What a difference. Smoked a one month old Maria Mancini Magic Mountain and what a difference it makes. How come I've never seen this method b4?

  • Coolest lessons in cigars Ive ever had, Thanks Doc!.

  • I tried this today while smoke a Padron about half way just to see if it would make a difference and it certainly did. I just wish I would have done it more often throughout the cigar. Great tip. BTW I've noticed you smoke some big ass cigars Doc lol.

  • Tried this last night and it worked perfectly! The multicolor flame was cool. Thanks Doc!

  • What's the name of the intro song?

  • "La Bruja"

  • I'll definitely give this a try. Great videos.

  • I often wondered if it was possible to stop the bittering of the last 3rd of the cigar.

You are truly a wealth of cigar information!

    Thanks!

  • Nice CRA hat, Doc. Nice video, purging cigars is awesome if there is a lot of ammonia in the stick you are smoking.

  • I discovered the "purging" with the cigars a couple of months ago. I was siting around and I was curius of what would happen if I blew on my cigur. I noticed that it had more flavor than before. Now I know what to call this proseager

  • Doing it right now and it works !!

  • new to cigars. and this is some great info..

thanks for doing what you do man.

  • you should make a video about what cigar types are good for what alcohol types, although it is definitely personal preference, and also what types of cigars are your personal favorites.

  • Doc thanks so much for posting this. This is a problem I've had with some of cigars Great job as always !

  • Was on holiday when you posted this doc. Nice video it was very interesting and like always look forward to seein the next.

    enjoy the good life

    radjesh from amsterdam

  • Good to see a new show Doc. I mention you on my show and credit you when I demenstrate what I learn.

  • Thanks, amigo. i appreciate that.

  • First off, welcome back doc.

Secondly, purging (with torch) does help expell burned tobacco particles/excess chemical build, but sometimes it expells the flavors from the cigar. That's happened to me before, has it happened to you?

  • Gracias, amigo. If the cigar is tasting good, I don't purge, so I don't run into a problem with purging out flavors. Since many cigar arrive in the marketplace a little underfermented or underaged, there are a lot of cigar that will smoke foul. That's where purging comes in handy. No reason to purge a cigar that is smoking good.

  • I think my problem is that I tend to purge if I leave a cigar down for too long and it tastes bitter. I should just do the dry purge after re-toasting the cigar

  • Fantastic work Doc. Thanks.

  • thanks for the tip, im going to give it a try tonight.

so in other words, purging is more or less a safer way to consume a cigar because you removing impurities that can be "bad" for you. also i guess you are preserving the fresh taste of the cigar throughout its entire burn length.

i always let the head of my match burn off completely before touching the flame to the cigar so i dont get any bad surfer taste.

    great videos, thanks

  • I wouldn't say that purging makes cigar smoking safer, but it definitely can enhance the flavors in cigars that have not been properly aged or cured.

  • I only do it when necessary.

It works GREAT if you have to relight after a considerable amount of time.... best way.

  • Man I've got to start purging. Thanks doc

  • I love your videos! Thanks so much!

  • nice job -- informative! Keep up the good work.

  • I've been dry purging for a while now, since your other vid on lighting your cigar. I always purge after every few draws (but not before I draw) to expel the lingering smoke inside the cigar I find defiantly helps keep it fresh, I will be sure to purge before I draw from now on. I haven't tried the flambe method before but next time my cigar goes out ill give it a go. Cheers Doc thanks for sharing your knowledge!

  • Good video, very informing!

  • Thanks for explaining that, Doc. You need to make more videos. I think you're vids are the best resource for cigar education. Maybe you should go by "Professor" instead!

  • Thanks, my friend. Comments much appreciated. From one teacher to another, you can imagine how much effort goes into curriculum development, not to mention the technical challenges.
