Not that the LP needs Catherine to help the sexual tension, but more that LP needs her to help Pippin towards the finale, because half way through Pippin seems to be deterring from the actual plot [or the plot that the LP wants him to follow]. So therefore LP gets Catherine, to help get Pippin to do the finale. But [as you probably know] she
doesn't exactly fulfill her purpose, which makes the LP angry [which is the basis of the last scene].
And as for the 'why wouldn't she just sleep with him, and then convince him to do the grand fiale the next morning?' You might as well say 'Why didn't Romeo and Juliet just run off together the first night they met?' I'll tell you why, because that's crap and it doesn't push a story along, or make it interesting. Which is [I'm sure] what the writer wanted.

Actually if you've read the ACTUAL Bob Fosse website, you'll see he states that the Leading Player can be either female OR male. He even says that female may be better, because it gives a certain sexual tension between LP and Pippin, and it aids the help/hate relationship between LP and Catherine.
So obviously you don't understand the show.
And as for the singing, this girl put her own spin on it. It's not bad, it's just different.
And the dancing has nice Fosse elements and good original moves
You completely misread Miller on Fosses's ACTUAL site. He never says a female LP may be better. but that it'sbeen done & that can add a sexual tension. "In several recent productions, Leading Player has been cast as a woman to add a sexual element to Pippin's seduction; this casting also gives the show a much more contemporary feel, to have a woman in the position of authority.... But Pippin is afraid to trust her because everyone else has betrayed him. "
He must learn to have faith in her as he learns to have faith in himself." Therefore, this doesnt mean that it is better, but that it adds a sexual tension. But why would the LP need Catherine if there was already a sexual tension between him and the LP? Cathrine would be unneccesary, since the LP would, by this logic be able to seduce Pippin all on her own. Therefore, the Male and his sense of power is able to give Pippin all he wants, including lust, and force him to want suicide.
If there is a sexual tension, we are implying that Pippin would want to release this sexual tension with the LP and not with Catherine. I mean, if this is the case, and the LP has the power over him that she has throughout the show, why wouldn't she just sleep with him, and then convince him to do the grand fiale the next morning? Its much more plausable than having her go though the trouble of putting pippin into Wars, Other Women, College, Politics etc etc.
