How are these cars as daily drivers if maintained correctly from an engine build?

I was thinking of selling my 8 for an FD and rebuilding the engine on one, but idk

@Reaction92 They are great cars, outstanding as a matter of fact. But really, it depends on how much effort you're willing to put into it. Of course the more horsepower you have, the more the driveability goes down. I enjoyed it though... enough to swap out the motor. I'm in the process of swapping an LS1 in it now... should be up and running in about a month.

@Tj1056 True... But I think 500 horses on an LS1 will end up lasting a bit longer than 500 on a rotary... idk. I've never had a 13B pumping out 500 XD

@rxtony05 it will actually last longer with single turbo at about 500hp... on lets say a gt35r... less heat build up (heat will kill the rotary) the TT builds up a lot of heat compared to the single turbo... depends on what you do to the ls1 that is about 200hp more you need to push out...

over 100,000 miles on original engine modified 5 yrs back knock on wood nothing has ever went wrong since the upgrades (DAILY DRIVER AS WELL)

@Reaction92 these can last a good 200k on stock engine(that is if you are driving it like its suppose to)... but added mods for like reliability mods like cooling will help... I have swapped out the standard TT from the 93 and put in a 99 spec from a 02 with the y pipe... downpipe, exhaust, intake, 1300cc secondary injectors, power fc and commander, upgrade fuel pump, SMIC, and get the greddy intake elbow for help... making 360-400whp depending on psi...

@Reaction92 but to make this power you will expect around 180k miles range before rebuild maybe 200k depending on your seals and tune... a bad tune will kill the seals on these cars fast... but what makes these a good engine also is the fact they are fast and easy to rebuild...

@Reaction92 Oh yeah... stock or with minor upgrades, they run so smoothly (with proper upkeep/maintenance). I wouldn't mind buying another one myself. It's once you start to increase boost... or find someone who does a sh*tty job tuning... you start playing rotary roulette lol. Don't let anybody persuade you otherwise... they are great cars. I just can't find anybody around here who works on em... so I'm crossing to the dark side. Find one with low mileage... you should be good.

and you cant go wrong with a Racing Beat exhaust (or any parts for a rx7).

i bought the complete kit for my rx7 ( downpipe, midpipe, resonator and dual exhaust)., and its the best investment so far. sure its really expensive , but its worth it all !!!

Yea, most likely something is wrong if you find one for 6k... Probably salvage title or something. You might be able to find a good condition roller for that and put your own motor in it for a good price though.

If you find a 3rd Gen Rex for 6 G's, something is wrong with it... I found mine for $12,000 with 75K miles on it. I got really lucky.

Well... I'm 6'1", and it's a nice "fit" for me. I don't feel cramped... but it's definitely no caddy. Really it depends on how heavy you are and whether or not the steering wheel tilts. Getting in and out... a little tricky. But once you're in, it's pretty cozy lol.

you finished by bolting the exhaust to a hanger right? bc i can see that the one on the right side of the new exhaust isnt connected to anything and the exhaust was shakin when it was reved.

Nice car, man. I'm almost there with my paychecks to buy a 3rd gen 7 soon. You have the color just the way I like it although I'm considering getting a different tone for the hood (and maybe even the middle for the 2-toned convertible look). What TT kit are you running?

thanks... i tell everybody the 3rd gen looks good in any color. its the stock turbos... 8-10 lbs of boost. I'm goin over seas for 7, possibly 13 months (iraq), so when i get back, i'm going to overhaul the engine, rebuild it... big streetport, big single turbo set up. I'm lookin for 600whp.

when it idles... the rpms bounce up and down, sounds like $hit. I was told it could be a vacuum problem, but I'm not sure if i wanna take it to mazda to get the problem solved.

Yeah see I dont take mine to Mazda. Just all depends with them how often and well they work with rotary. Some Mazda shops get a good amount of experience with them and others dont. Luckily for me I live about two hours away from Pettit Racing.

The exhaust worked out great. I like it a lot. It gives it a more aggresive look without over-doing it like HKS Cat-backs. It sounds a lot better as well.

Thanks for the help. I have a Montego Blue 94 Touring. I love the stock look and the exhaust fits it. I heard this exhaust is most preferred for the car. I'm going down to Pettit soon to get it put on. Good luck with anything you do to the car.
