I'm playing five different versions, using different weapons and strategies, Domination vs. Destruction, etc. Seems the best way to go is power up your minions as soon as you have the means and don't worry about your own weapons. They last longer in battle. Also, keep resurrecting your high-level minion so they fight more and get even stronger. Fighting shorthanded sometimes levels them even faster and gives you an "elite" force too! (ps3 version anyway)
@matalvis Looks like Seph missed the 5 minion upgrade by the curvy railroad tracks near Nordberg (in a rock pile near the first archers) or just skipped it to get the walkthrough done faster. Seems to be doing alright with 20 though :)
@hank9112 grab the minion upgrade by the first gate near Nordberg (hidden in the woods, but look for the red glow) and blow up the pile of rocks the mounted minions jumped over to sack the archers shooting at the third explosives cart (the one you used to blow the doors on Nordberg) to get five more. Just call your pushers back at the moment it starts to roll up beside it and then set it off (careful where you put your reds so they don't blow up the next cart that rolls out and kill your own).

collect the relics and health stones and such. thats what raises your minion count.
