Damien Rice actually said even more about the song at his concert in Hamburg. The story goes: The man buys the woman a lot of drinks, "accidentally" misses the last bus, hopes the two of them will hook up... When he says "Oh no, how am I going to get home? I missed my bus. What are you going to do" she says "I'm actually just waiting for my boyfriend"... At least that's what Damien said :)

If you listen to the lyrics, they are so much deeper than a stranger at a bar. There was much love once, but maybe he doen't want to give the girl the satisfaction of a song about her.
