  • The "cheese-eating surrender monkeys" part actually come from the Simpsons, I saw on an episode that was made long before this, but then comedy is never completely original...Brendan O'Carroll shamelessly rips off Billy Connolly and Jason Manford does the same bit about Gillian McKeith that Dara O'Briain did a year earlier!!!

  • I have to move to the stereotypical France! :) But I'm bringing some food with me.

  • Oh my...Dylan Moran, you are one hell of a guy. I'd wish some common guy would copy you from head to toe, so I could at least get a copy of you...neah,who am I kiddin, it'd never be the same! Oh well...

  • this is the first time i saw a comedian smoke on stage i knoe ed byrne said thats very common

  • It's comedy stereotypes are perfectly acceptable as are prejedices (did I spell that correctly?)..who among us is not in some way, however small not prejedice?? I for example don't like morans (",)

  • @sammo1977 It's 'prejudice', haha. Think 'pre-judge', to judge someone before you get to know them. That's how I remember it. :)

  • he is so cute and sexy!

  • Sore or not sore....

    Yes I want it !

  • "I was very young when I uploaded this video" ... ?? Lol...

  • YOU CUT OUT THE "CHEESE EATING SURRENDER MONKEYS" PART!!!! NOOOOO

    ;-p

  • Haha, I am listening to this hungover at lunchtime in Paris. Very funny.

  • When I moved to Paris my landlord told me that there's no eating in the toilet. Now I understand what he actually meant.

  • "naked from the waist down. To emphasize their nakidity."

  • I ate my paintings

    xD

  • Someone really needs to make a Hetalia parody with this ._.

  • ooohhh 666 comments, haha that mean I'm going to die or something? In other news, I love this guy, black books is immense

  • the french does not want war so what that funny ?? people not wanting to kill people is funny??

  • @TheWarlock1991 surrender monkeys

  • @TheWarlock1991 easy, frenchie

  • @TheWarlock1991 lolwut? tu devrais chercher le mot 'blague' dans un dico...

  • "your work is so ..... because you copy mine and mine is shit to begin with!" What does he say there?

  • @TapijtReiniger 'derivative'.

  • @TapijtReiniger He says "derivative."

  • @TapijtReiniger He says "derivative."

  • HA HA HA HA HA this is fucking hilarious ive been living in France for the past 8 years and this is funny shit, the accent and everything is so stereotypical and true in a way lol

  • Comment removed

  • "I HATE my paintings, I HATE them!.. I hate your paintings too!"

    "You ate my paintings?! :("

    "NO, I HATE THEM!"

  • "i was very young when i uploaded this video.....i hereby apologise for claiming the production was mine" yet 7 months ago you are saying it's your production for the editing part..(are we talking about the awful red background and the dwcmerlin production title. that is NOT editing).

  • I've seen him do this about Americans, Germans, and the French. Now if he had any guts he would say shit about Israelis.

  • @attemptingtobehumble

    Haters gonna Hate

  • @SuperGadunka Wow that was clever.

  • @attemptingtobehumble That's just a ridiculous comment really

  • I've never seen Dylan look so drunk before LOL

  • This is so good. I can tell you, this is quite true actually, I know it. I'm French haha.... I really love that guy. He's genius !!!

  • does anyone know what he says at 2:05?

  • @onarcp He says 'come on, you know you want it'

  • @onarcp "Even my toenails hurt." "Come on you know you want it."

  • As satisfying as it would be for Dylan Moran to claim copyright infringement on this "dwcmerlin production", we'd then be without the 2 minutes and 3 seconds that is pure comic genius.

  • Damn, you sexy thing.

  • Comment removed

  • i died after he said "im starVING"

  • This man is such a freak, I absolutely LOVE him! :D

  • the 43 dislikes were blatantly french

  • @jonanice Not true, us French love this, it's the best and funniest skit on the French stereotype i've ever seen. Can tell he's Irish and not British/American, there is no bigotry in it! ;)

  • @AuxaneD lol ok nice 2 kno the french hv gd sense of humour

  • @jonanice Yep, when it's really humour and not backhanded propaganda and borderline xenophobia no problem. You can tell Moran is educated. It's not based on fallacies, just on stereotypes and fecking funny ones as well!!! The accent and all haha I watch the whole Monster show from time to time and i'm always pissing myself! lol

  • @AuxaneD There's also the fact that he's talking about a stereotype that exists, and not saying that it actually IS this way -- just that this is how people think of the French.

  • @Deja1977 he's equally ordinary without wine.

  • @MrJohnnyexcellent Lol...a funny comment by you tho. And i still kinda like him.

  • LOL...i think he's got imagination...maybe too much wine with it ?

  • thats poor- he has got no imagination

  • Lol don't plaguarize, it's Dylan Moran's... Just because you stuck some shitty WMM title on it does not make it your production. If you really want to claim something, should be "title by dwcmerlin" but nothing more.

  • I was at this :D it was so god damn funny

btw its not your production ass hole, its dylan morans.

  • I love this guy =^.^= I'm French but I love this guy ^^ and it's not wrong that French people have a bad accent

  • I'm with @KoakaKo It IS misleading to call this video your "production". Perhaps no-one would seriously take this to be the poster's product, but the behaviour is still obnoxious.

More generally, why can't people just put up a transparent, 3 second "posted/edited by ABC" message in a corner of their videos?

  • Oh his french accent...

  • Wow he's actually smoking. Love it.

  • @dwcmerlin - You don't say "I edited this" in the video. You wrote "A Dwc_Merlin Production", as though you're taking credit for somebody else's work. That's plagarism and fraud and it's a crime. I'm sick and tired of seeing videos with "a soandso production" on the front of them. Just drop the stupid "production" blurb and post the video if you want to, which many people do, but DON'T take credit for somebody else's work. It's NOT "your production". All you did was clip it and post it.

  • @KOakaKO As much as I think you're right, why do you even care? He didn't have permission to post this and somehow it's stayed up for just under 5 years. Does it really matter that he put a title card that lasts about 3 seconds up?

  • @KifIsARealBoy - I had been looking at Dylan Moran vids that day, and THIS one popped up the irritating text at the start saying "MY production". Dylan's doing the work, but an idiot is taking credit for it.

Yes, I admit I could have posted the same message on MANY other vids that do the same irritating thing. This is just one I happened to see on a day when I was inclined to spend 10 seconds posting a comment. Frankly, the idiot will continue to get away with it. Doesn't really matter.

  • @dwcmerlin Actually, since it's already edited and produced under another company, you're stealing it.

    You bad bad man.

  • @dwcmerlin It's called copyright infringement, and being proud of it and putting your name on it is just ignorant and childish.

  • @dwcmerlin editing? You didn't do any editing

  • @dwcmerlin What you did hardly qualifies as editing or production of the video. All you did was take a two minute, eight second long piece of a greater whole. It was edited and produced ENTIRELY by someone ELSE. You merely uploaded said short snippet to youtube.

Therefore KOakaKO was correct in their statements.

  • @dwcmerlin retard

  • @KOakaKO i agree. edit the vdeo or write an apology or something

  • "WHY DO WE HAVE TO TALK FUCKING ENGLISH" xD

  • "Come on! You know you want it!" Oh, yes I do! Thank you sweet Dylan! ;)

  • Apart from the fact that it's so well written, he has the most accurate imitation of French accent I've ever heard...and I'm French.

  • @AliochaKaramazov maybe cos of his irish twang he may get the inflection right, i think he likes frances so that helps.

  • He is a complete legend!

  • i love how dylan gets away with smoking on stage! noone else would be able to :D

  • @bloodypedant I think he needs it to get his jokes running.

  • Ok, I've had a look through most of the comments and haven't found the answer to this, so sorry if it *has* already been answered - What does he say the French are sweating (around the 30 second mark, straight after "smoking a Gaulois inside a Gitane" lol) - I've watched the vid over and over and I just can't catch it!! Thanks in advance!

  • @yolexi I'm pretty sure it's "Nice Sancerre" (Nice as in the region in France). Hope this eases your frustration! :)

  • @yolexi Nice sancerre. Nice is a city in the south of France. Sancerre is type of wine.

  • @theeponym lol Sancerre is named after a place, so you can hardly have Nice Sancerre, you can have nice Sancerre though, which is of course a matter of taste. It's quite obviously "neat" Sancerre, the implication being that in sweating Sancerre in neat form indicates an excessive and recent consumption characteristic of the typical French proclivities, which are in fact enviable. So that's explained the joke for you lot, now off you trot back to America before you get more confused.

  • @TheDistilledMan Bah ha ha ha. Look, I'm in a good mood, so I won't tell you to take your contrived, pompous, self-important input and shove it up your ass. Instead I will simply say this: he says Nice. Not neat. It's pretty easy to hear as a French speaker (surprise! I'm not American). Whether or not that type of wine is factually accurate is irrelevant. It's a joke—about sweating wine of all things. Realism isn't exactly an issue here.

  • @theeponym Nonsense. "Nice" does not fit the picture he was painting in any way, he clearly said "neat" and was just slurring his words, nay, the whole diatribe. Of course, realism only became necessary to illuminate the fantasy you had created in the first place. You've got me on the American bit though, that was a cheap shot of me, although you clearly earned it Mon Brave.

  • @TheDistilledMan To clear this matter up once and for all (and i cant believe i actually did this) i switched the subtitles on whilst watching the DVD and he does indeed utter the sentence "Sweating NEAT Sancerre" NOW STOP ARGUING AND WATCH THE DAMN FUNNY MAN!

  • @TheDistilledMan i can definitely hear the s there in Nice. he wouldn't say neat because that's american, they don't use it. and the other guy is right, it doesnt have to be a real wine, who cares. everyone got it anyway.

  • @dotchoo I'm impressed, you are able to weave stupidity on multiple levels. That's quite the skill, well done.

  • this man is hilarious

  • yesss! unreal!

  • i reckon Dylan Moran has already slept with a French woman! lol!

  • "and mine is shit to begin with!!" LOL god I love that part :) He's soo great. And "Why do we have to talk fucking english?!?"

  • @ChilibillieBOB

does it really matter if he is or not? and yes, we do like drinking, going to the pub is a pillar of social interaction in Ireland, we might be considered more hardcore than others in terms of drinking, but we work hard, we fucking well play harder. It's funny, considering the stereotypes of us we have a much higher per capita college graduation rate than America.

  • Cheese eating surrender monkeys is the thing that was kind of good!

  • I love how he has a dimple xD

  • this person said they would upload the whole act

  • Ver true im french

  • He is so much happier here than in his other DVDs lol

  • what was I thinking..... :D

  • @Dice3000 not "thinking" "zinking"

  • lol

  • Munky142 are you feckin serious? Ireland is NOT in the U.K. Get an atlas. Or a brain.

  • how comes he never gets on about the uk...?mean theres enough to laugh about...

  • @srang12345 He always makes jokes about England and Ireland, they are both in the UK.

  • @munky142

Northern Ireland is in the UK, the Republic of Ireland is not.

They are two Countries on the same Island.

  • haha :)

  • best frenchman impression eva!

  • i love he always talks like this <3 god i love him.

  • Even my toenails hurt hahahaha!

  • he is a stand up comic and was first its not bernard black, dont b silly does anyone know what set this is from though????

  • ROFLMAO

  • you are thinking of his character Bernard Black, this is the man doing stand up.

  • hahaha this is funnii! i love the accent bit of french! i ate my painting... im starvvvinnng!

  • i 'ate you paintings too! You ate my paintings? No i 'ate them why do we have to talk fucking English! haha

  • Holy crap that's funny. But I've been putting off watching his take on Amerkins.

  • hehe

  • OK, I watched it: he nailed us, but so what? I'm sorry it took me so long to "discover" this guy.

  • Watch it, it's hilarious.

  • I did, and it's sadly accurate. :(

  • LOL.

  • Wha-...Why... does he start to talk about paintings all of a sudden? What does that have to do with French? Is that some sort of stereotype?

(sorry, I'm French, I'm trying to learn about myself here xD)

  • @ja0sc0sd

    yep. french artists.

  • @ja0sc0sd

Yes. The stereotype is that you have an affinity for art.

  • @ja0sc0sd

Probably referring to Le Louvre (hope I spelled that right)

And one of the stereotypes is that all French people are starving, self-critical artists. Not a true stereotype, but a stereotype nonetheless.

  • Lol, I never heard of the starving part?

  • Forgive me, "starving artist" is an expression. It means an artist who can't sell his work well enough to make any money off of it, so they can't buy food. It basically condenses that whole last sentence into two words.

  • Ahhh, i've never heard that phrase before, my bad.

  • what was I zinking?!

  • You ate my paintings!?

  • @headradio0 lol

  • he's really drunk... and he's alway smokin and drinkin on stage... i hope he doesn't like kill himself from it.

  • hes not drunk, thats his comical manner.

  • @futurestar48

it's his style. plus, even though we have a reputation for partying hard (well-deserved), our rate of alcoholism (as in people who are addicted to alcohol) is not as high as people stereotype.

  • He's drunk.... in Black Books he always has a glass of wine in tow and I don't think it's a prop. I Love this guy.

  • @5growinghumans he drinks quite alot, when he does his shows if you look back on some of his early work, he's got bottles of beer and glasses of wine with him pretty much all the time, plus he has a death grip on his micro phone which makes his right hand shake.

  • @5growinghumans i don't think he is not drunk. he plays the drunk person perfectly. he is a great actor and writer. if every drunk person could play like this and write so clever things then everybody would be a good actor. yes, he probably loves drinking and does it a lot but it takes more than that i think....

  • @5growinghumans HE IS IRISH!.....And he was in shaun of the dead

  • Maintenant je sais pouquoi je peint si mal, je étais nu de mauvais cote!

  • @EsPalabraDeDios English madafaka

  • To emphasize their nakidity :D

  • I so wanna live one week as a French stereotype.

  • Is he drunk? All the times I've seen him, he's acting drunk

  • yes, its all part of his charm (:

  • Acting drunk is what he does, it helps him to stop being so nervous on stage...

  • he's not drunk, it's how he acts, because people find it funny. Watch Black Books sometime.

  • oh my god hes funny as.... LOLZ X10

  • TO THEBUSINESSOFDYING

are you french or something you humourless male sex organ with eyes.....

  • "Male sex organ with eyes."

I think I love you, That has to be the best insult ever. :)

  • hahahaha!

  • unfortunately what he says is mostly true, the french are very decadent on a whole

  • He is fucking brilliant! Not to mention super duper sexy. Anyhow...does anyone know why there are sometimes pictures in the background whilst he performs? Is it becuase of the place he performs? Are they up there for a reason?

  • They're his drawings, I believe.

  • He draws them I think, they're behind him in all his shows. But the camera never lingers long enough to actually see them properly, so no idea if they're funny or not.

  • If I remember the drawings are bonus features on the DVD. At least on Monster they are.

  • @LovelessSeime He sketches them himself and puts them up as part of the act. Just his style.

  • They are his drawings to go with the show, he does them at every tour. His signature is on the bottom of every one :) very talented guy!

  • @LovelessSeime they're up there because he drew them :) He probably thought that's a good idea

  • @LovelessSeime He has those pictures as a sort of summary for whatever argument he's on at that moment. Oh, and "come on, you know you want it" nearly killed me.

  • @LovelessSeime he draws them himself , im not sure what the connection is to his act though

  • @LovelessSeime They're Dylans own artwork. He displays them on the DVD extra's of all his shows. He says they're supposed to be post-modern ironic

  • @dwcmerlin which in in itself is post-modern ironic xP

  • @LovelessSeime theres drawings in the back ground because there dylan's art work, he drew them.

  • shit I am actually naked from the waist down and i just slashed yesterday's painting :(

brilliant skit, you can tell he enjoys playing that one. I wish we had a comedian even half as cleverly funny as Moran in France these days...

  • @nehansan Yup, but I won't fall into the since-Desproges-snuffed-it cliché, because I don't really agree with this marketing strategy of dying young which, although particularly effective, is still a bit flawed one way or another.

Who makes me laugh these days in France? There might be Gaspard Proust, who doesn't always choose the easiest jokes (but who most of the time isn't really funny), or Edouard Baer (some good mmts), but we can only admit it's nothing like the sing-songy ranting of Mr M.

  • My last comment is about all the posts where people are bitching at each OTHER. Taking shots at each other's nationalities, stereotypes, going back into history and all that crap. Dylan is, of course, hysterically funny.

  • Shit, what's Dylan doing with the cigarettes now that the smoking ban has been imposed?

  • I live in Mexico and Vienna. Have a German girlfriend. Born in New Orleans. American. American father fought with Canadian forces in WWII, trained in Great Britain. Germany is a GREAT country. England is a GREAT country. France is a GREAT country. PERIOD. The hateful, bigoted comments I read here in 2009 show that you guys are ready to start another war over PREJUDICES. The same thing HITLER had. What makes you posters different from HITLER? Different targets? Prejudice & hate killed millions.

  • Its a joke....besides the french are easy targets. And if your going to bitch about an Irishman speaking his mind your watching the wrong videos. Remember what Freud said about the Irish...

  • genocide makes us different from hitler.

I could go on, but im lazy
