@iGoshiix A Aeolian works nicely, add B and F to the a minor pentatonic... actually now that i think of it, it actually seems to be pretty closely to A pentatonic combined with E pentatonic, which is propably why it works :D i'm a noob too though, so i might be entirely wrong... :D

E pentatonic works because the only out of key note will be F# so as long as you dont play F# you will be fine but seeing as its the same as the A minor scale Minus one note might as well just play the A minor in my opinion

Btw this song is in C major ( which is the same as A minor ) however the backing track clearly resolves on C,

so you will get a lot more resolution when ending phrases on C rather then A

@Grungeguitar92787 Close, but F# isn't in E pentatonic. F# IS in Em, though. It's B that you're thinking of, as A pentatonic is A, C, D, E, and G, while E pentatonic is E, G, A, B, D. The B will end up sounding like a blues note in the A minor pentatonic scale, but that blues note needs to be resolved with a C, which would change the scale to Am pentatonic.

@sammydems Sorry you misunderstood me. I was saying how the E minor pentatonic or E minor scale works over this backing track because they share every note in common with C major minus the F #.

I tend not to recognize pentatonics as real scales I just consider it Lazy 7 note naturals haha.

Also I need to correct myself A Aeloian = A Minor = A penatonic, my apologies.

@5corbandtube Gotcha. It would sound tense and unresolved with Em pentatonic, though, since it doesn't use C. Don't go sending any newbies down the evil path of mixing scales! Haha.

On a side note though, you gotta utilize the pentatonic scale! It's the best for shredding up and down the fretboard at light speed (esp while using CAGED)! It's like the basement that the house is build upon, and an easy indicator of where you are on the fretboard.

Btw, every note is the same except F and F# lol ;)

@cmalexx13 What? G mixo is the same scale as A minor and C major, G mixo has the notes GABCDEF , A minor also contains the notes GABCDEF. saying you can use G mixo is saying nothing. This backing track is in C so to say you are using mixo over this track you would be playing CDEFGABb. Using this scale would work in this track so long as you dont play over the chords with the B note in for example the G major chord which is used in this song. On the G chord you chould go back to the C major scale

G mixo will sound exactly like C major over this because this track CLEARLY resolves on the C note. You wont notice any difference playing in modes until the backing track is appropriate to that mode. So find a Backing Track in G mixolydian and then play that scale.

Yes this is very much in C major..in facts its so in C major that the title shouldn't even say A minor/ C major The A note doesn't resolve nearly as much as C does. C is definitly the home note.
