  • when paxman was optimistic about something...

  • My God, Its Hal9000

  • Wouldn't his program be easier as...

    10 DIM Name$(4), Date$(4)

    20 FOR A=1 TO 4 : Read B$, C$ : Name$(A) = B$ : Date$(A) = C$ : NEXT A

    30 PRINT "Enter Key-Word"

    40 INPUT Item$

    50 FOR A=1 TO 4

    60 IF Item$ = Name$(A) THEN PRINT Date$(A)

    70 NEXT A

80 DATA "Jane", "23rd Feb", "Mike", "15th Jun", "Paul", "30th Dec", "Eric", "23rd Feb"

In modern version of BASIC, this would be simplified further...

  • i used my brain the last time 25 years ago.......duh

  • their legacy - ARM

  • Wow! Just think one day we will have videos on 'interactive' terminals that can be accessed from ANYWHERE in the world through a global 'network' where we can interact and comment on...imagine that!

  • Beat that pencil and paper! Names, birthdays, even what your bought them... BOOM!!

God this takes me back. Shame about the sound, but it's nearly a 30 year old bit of footage, so I'll deal. :)

  • iv,e still got a 48k spectrum rubber key and a 148k keyboard one with the casette AND THEY BOTH STILL WORK

  • Here's an idea. When the audio is so loud it's clipping, don't post it!

  • @planetrob555 I'm sure the clipping audio is because this was pulled off an ancient VHS, which was probably recorded badly in the first place. The BBC hasn't released this, so if the original poster listened to your advice, none of us would be able to experience this wonderful bit of history.

  • @soundsLogical I agree I'm glad to see this, but I guess I just wish people would know how to adjust the outputs and inputs of recording devices. It's really a simple matter to get decent audio.

  • wow great database :)

  • 10 PRINT "ARSE"

    20 GOTO 10

    RUN

  • i got 1 of these and i put 3 gig of ram in it and a 2 ghz and it was so fast it came alive lol

  • Good old BASIC.

I love the BBC Micro. I've even got one.

  • Mode 6 was always used for database work - the screen used far less RAM and so freed it up for data storage

  • A rare appearance of the little-used Mode 6 there.

  • BBC Micros were always so appealingly colourful.

  • pretty good explanation of memory allocation. bank vault lol
