if the derailleur gets bent, which happens from time to time, this test becomes useful as the unit with less spring tension will tend to jump to another gear. Heavy pedaling along with minor bend in derailleur would be great test. New shadow gear looks to have improved on that front.
@bikeracerguy didnt they try before? dont think it fared better than mavic's electronic shifting xperiment..... also campy's appeal is there so specialized in road equipment
i bought sram x-0 today im sure it will work faster than shimano shimano is also agood equipment but i use sram since 2001 and no doubt it has all that i need fast changing and no need to regulate thats most important advantage
@torentmonkey NO WAY!!!! Sram is the way to go with MTBing shimanos products are inferieour in quality and looks!!!! I am sorry but i have used both and SRAM is just much better, and i will agree this viedo is not a good guide, but please try for your self and you will see.
@nuke995 u make me laugh, shimano = FAIL / try to shift when your derailleur is in same condition as this guy and then u will see how SRAM piss on shimano, sram has 1:1 shifting !
put the new XTR 2010 and then challenge the test to the sram xo....with no doubt it would be the same ...remember u still need to test short cage, mid cage and long cage for this test.
This shows that for off road use, Shimano is superior as it's doing a better job of maintaining constant chain tension.
The more movement there is in the rear derailleur over rough ground, the more constant the chain tension will be, and thus the risk of dropping the chain is lower.
which is why my fucking sram derailer snapped along with the front one too... and my shimano has always shifted better, fuck it people buy a slap guard and stop whining about the chain
I run SRAM X-0 on my stumpjumper, and Shimano XT on my hardtail. I prefer the SRAM 1:1 change ratio, very crisp and easy to shed gears when climbing. But I also love the XT too.I think theyre both wel made, strong and functional. But the SRAM shades it for me. All those fools that slag off either product are stupid. Most of you break derailleurs cos you can't ride properly!!!
Well you can see users recommendation in Pinkbike's website. It is obvious that SRAM's is better it leads Shimano's with more than 400%. Even lower class derailleurs from SRAM has more recommendations than Shimano XTR! :) Sorry Shimano fans.
If you only observe the chain, the upper part seems to me a bit more stable in the Shimano, while the lower part seems more controlled in the SRAM because of the rigid rear derailleur.
SRAM deraileurs change gears more quickly and accurately (1:1 actuation ratio) than Shimano (2:1), are much less susceptible to dirty housing & cable stretch, and stay tuned a lot longer with a fraction of the maintenance. Sram shifters feel a bit clunky, but provide more positive and responsive shifting in all conditions. Shimano shifters might feel smoother, but ultimately do NOT work nearly as well as SRAM. MOST professional XC & DH race teams use SRAM, which is by far the superior product.
Alieninsurgent, you must confused something there. X.0 indistructable?? You msut have a special one for sure, that plastic parts of them, you must trade for some stainless steel or something. I saw more X.0 bronken in 1 month then xtr in a year. Yes Sram is faster putting the gears, but shimano is smooter. But we catchsome mud, start using the bottle to clear it from the gears, in case of sram. You want a X.0 working 100%? Put a Cassette and a chain XTR.
I like my X(, but X7, X9 and XO all have the same faults - the limit screws are threaded into shiity plastic ferrules that crack and fall out. The hanger bolt is way too weak. If this breaks, the whole lot os going into your spokes - wrecking your hanger and maybe your frame and also your wheel. It's a common complaint and SRAM are aware of it all - they fixed it in XX. They need to fix it in the everyman's groupsets too!
I ride both and have very high spec bikes both around £4000. Can conclude they are just as good as each other. But if you want change to buy a few beers after. Buy the SRAM. Simple as that. In this day and age components are very good.
X0 deraileaurs are virually indestructable, been on 3 bikes over 2 years and still performs flawlessly. shimano deraileaurs fall apart after 6 months. can't beat srams 1:1 action ratio for super quick, accurate, and positive shifting every time, in all conditions. you set the gears, adjust a short time later for cable stretch, and forget about it. with shimano's 2:1 ratio, you're constantly fucking around adjusting the gears, and crunching emergency changes where you're forced off the bike.
My friend's bike had the rear derailleur (SRAM) broken at the fixing point. His bike and components are 2 years old. My shimano tourney is now 5 years old and still works.
I'm under the impression that shimanos are tougher as they give, stick out less and are built bulkier, but srams shift a lot better and are still pretty tough.
I have a Shimano Alivio M410 Rear Derailleur on my Specialized Rockhopper 29r. It bent along with the hanger. What would everyone here buy? Seems like junk. Any ideas?
@nyorganiccoffee i dont really understand how you bent the hanger regardless of price of the mech the hanger should not just bend for no reason unless the gears are not set right or a limit screw is undone to far and the mech hit the wheel which is the most common problem. asking what mech to go for depends on what type of riding and how much you want to spend deore/xt are both good entry level mechs but then you could try to find a proshift rear mech which is 100% cnc made but over £250 lol
@nyorganiccoffee what i would do is pick up a deore rear der if you dont want to pay xt prices. or what you could do is hit up price point oj jenson and get some x9 shifters and rear der. for about 110 or so. ive ran x9 on everything from hardtails to dh bikes and love them.
This video is quite misleading, no matter which you think is working better. The movement of the derailleur is not an indicator of anything useful. What one should be looking at is how much the chain moves. A high-speed camera is really necessary to see HOW one is better than the other. It should also be tested under a moderate pedaling load and while freewheeling. This view is only useful to see the difference between the pivot at the attach point and the fixed mount.
SRAM stole that technology from the SACHS DiRT range, they didn't pioneer it, they bought it!!!! Shimano Rapid Rise is the best functioning derailure system under loads for mountain biking, but their dual control shifters suck, Shimano Shadow, well, it has a low profile, so it won't get snagged on rocks, but apart from that it's no great innovation! 1;1 action means the derailer is under more tension, as does SRAMs B knuckle, which is why they snap more, still, for the money, I'd go with sram!
You can notice more movement on the Shimano because the SRAM has less "moveable" points. And that is a reason why you can see so much SRAMs broken in the mounting part...
Both Sram and Shimano are great shifting systems. I hate the lower thumb shifter on the Sram though. the thumb and finger Shimano uses keeps your hand in a better position. I'm a Chicagoan though so I have to go with Sram
I have a shop in Vicenza and feel like a traitor everytime I mount Shimano on a bike, but I think Campagnolo should either revise their whole way of thinking or just throw in the towel. I admire your loyalty though.
try this comparison with the 2009/2010 models of SRAM X.0 and Shimano Saint, as the Saint is the downhill model of Shimano and it has a stronger spring than the 2009/2010 XTR
Both derailleur have no lateral movement as we can see.
To the author:
It is much more interesting to check how much bounces the chain above the chainstay, because that is cousing a chain to fall from the front gears ; - )
ive got an xt on my racer x with the horst rear linkage and it bangs around like crazy the noise is driving me nuts! however the shifting is flawless.... ugh oh well.
I am not expert by all means but does that swinging mean that the Shimano can take more abuse than the SRAM can? If here was lateral movement then yes the SRAM would be totally better but both Shimano and SRAM keep the alignment so the gears stay steady. I run XT on my bike and i really like it. It works like a charm and i have had a few major crashes and the XT took the abuse. I was told SRAM would not be so forgiving?
i think its time for an update on your video mate. although there is nothing wrong with the shimano mech in there, i think with the later xtr models you will all have a differant opinion. (as sram mechs have changed very little since this was made).
may i make a suggestion: it isnt really that important on the up and down movement on the slack side of the derrailler, its more important how much the mech moves side to side.
can someone re-up the video including laterla movement, hence this is what make the chain jump gears etc.
this video is crap it proves nothing...do you know how many different types of derailleurs shimano makes? put a hone or or an xtr in there and see how much those move around... I bet they a much stiffer..
my sram x7 has been going for 3 years now "AND GUESS WHAT" its been to hell and back and wont die u could say i have done at least 1 MILL shifts and has NEVA EVA LET ME DOWN SO IMO SRAM RUCKS & SHIMANO SUCKS
I have a SRAM derailleur that has been on my downhill bike for 14 years, and it helped get 4th in the NORBA Nationals back in 1998. My wife's FS MTB has Shimano. It's good, too, but not as crisp as the SRAM.
it doesnt matter if it moves. as long as it stays in the gear you want and provides crisp clean shifts. shimano rapes sram in durability, looks, and functionality.
wowo thank you for this, i was almost ready to purchase a kula supreme with the shimano xtr but not anymore now i must find a new hardtail xc with a sram
The kula supreme is the best hardtail on the market - the head angle rocks... just sell the overpriced xtr derailleur and get a SRAM (with shifters of course).
thank you sir. I still was hooked on buying it even after i saw this test. But I will definately look into switching to SRAM derailers. Do i need to switch front derailer as well and have all SRAM or can SRAM and Shimano XTR work together? What do u recommend?
the SRAM X0 is not neccessarily a downhill derailleur. Its used in all types of bike riding. The XTR derailleur is not meant for downhill, but its is their most expensive derailleur.
But I do have to say that Shimano XT and XTR brakes are far superior to Sram Avid brakes. I have XT's on my downhill and XTR's on my xc bike (xtr's are just a bit lighter)
um well guys listen to cap1108 sram sx4 is shit for jumping or any major bumps i tryed it out for about a week at my local trail park and it bent inwards hitting 2 spokes (which broke them) then bent outwards....and all i did was a 2 feet jump!...
the truth is than sram xo is a downhill derailleur, while the shimano xtr isn`t. they should have used the saint derailleur instead, which is made, like the xo, for downhill riding.
Amazing! It's been over two years now since this was first posted and you Shimano devotees are still denying what is evident to everyone who can see. Is there any evidence that would convince you Shimano cultists that SRAM simply makes a better derailleur? Oops I almost forgot, we're dealing with a religious fidelity that knows no disloyalty - Praise thee O'Shimano gods, we offer you our eternal supplications and refuse to let mere evidence dissuade our unfailing devotion to thee.
ur a retard you know that right. shimano is better and will forever be better than sram! if i praised shimano then i would have never tried sram but i have!
i can not justify the expense of sram but i can shimano.
x.o may be slightly (and i mean slightly) better for dh but thats about it, xtr is great at everything.
but then again i suppose you havent even tried shimano! just a stupid narrow minded twat.
i'll see you on the trails when im riding by you picking your mech off the floor.
it does not matter what shifter you have. i ride bike races which are like 26 miles long. my Rear Derailleur on my bike is 20 years old bike bike too is 20 years old but what I'm trying to say is that if you keep you bikes in a dry place and give it daily oils your bikes can last for over 30 years i have a bike thats 30 it is perfect it never broke but i got it from my dad which he too kept it in good shape. get a shimano its the best ever
I've tried Sram X0 and XTR. I love my XTR components and would never go back to Sram. It's about personal choice though. I always thought part of the rear mechs job was to move, to help take up chain slack quicker. What do I know. I'm just a bike mechanic and experienced XC racer.
sram tough??? are you on drugs?? you can snap off a x9 or x0 just by farting on it. xt-xtr rule, if you ditch it the shimano rear mech basicly folds up out the way where as the srams just disintegrete
at last someone who actually realises the shiteness off sram. for people to be telling me they beleive sram to be reliable is lies.all people who like or use sram are just trying to justify the money they wasted or are americans standing up for there home-grown company. all you need to do is spend that little extra on xtr and you will never look back or at sram ever again i promise, it is my mission in life to make sram go bust and i will suceed. sooner use suntour mechs now give me a thumbs up!
I run Sram X.7 in my MTB and everything is good, but SRAM road bike components suck ass and are generally shit compared to Shimano. Stick with Shimano or campy for road bikes.
I build all my own bikes. I have been using XTER rear changers for 10 years--they work extrememly well, and are very tough. I did tacko a 960 recently, (was kinda my fault) but when it bent my heavy duty Ti hanger bent with it.
Both shimano and sram are good. they beat many other derailleurs out there. I prefer sram, but shimanos are nice - i like the asthetics on the yumeyas
shimano shimano shimano shimano shimano that is the most ridulas test EVER!!!!!!! sram mechs sucks. shimano is beautifully crafted and built to last. this coming from a user of both. they should do an endurance test the shimano will out last any sram product. ☺Copy☺ ☺and☺ ☺Paste☺ ☺if☺ ☺you☺ ☺think☺ ☺that☺ ☺sram☺ ☺SUX!!!☺
no, they are both the best out there. shimano for smooth shifting and sram for good old toughness. trust me i had shimano deore setup but then switched to sram x-7. the difference is amazing, especially in Britain where the mud is terrible, my mech never stop working even though the mud was awful
there is only 1 best and that IS shimano. my xtr group has been through it all never cleaned left outside all year round rode in all terains and has yet to fail all my bikes have had this treatment and my x.9 spec'd bike was forever being repaired.
and to think that shimano spent 1000s of £'s a year testing there products and along comes m8y with his camera and thinks hes got it sussed......i dont think so
theres a reason why shimano control well over 50% of the bike components market!!
yeah because about 2% of people who buy shimano are actual serious offroad mountain bikers, not all the kit ride like shit people. look sram works for me and i go through 18 inches of mud every weekend and it never fails. its like the M16 and the AK47. i prefer the reliability.
I can say that shimano is very durable and good shifting for a long time, but not too precise because it has 1:2 actuation ratio, but sram have it 1:1 (more precise and much more easy to adjust). Also, Sram haven't the same moving, sram is designed to go directly to the next gear but shimano just slides.
Results: Sram is stiffer, more precise, but less durable, and need to be clean and lubricated!!!
Good comparison but what are we really looking for? The fact that one moves alot and the other doesn't means the movement is confined to the arm/cage to do all the tensioning of the chain on Xram, whereas shimano design theirs to use the main body to work together with the cage/arm to keep tension on the chain. Personal preference at the end of the day.
the movement on the shimano seems like it would relieve a lot of the stress off road riding putst on the componentry. my xt has been shifting fine for over 10 years now. I have been debating Shimano vs SRAM on a replacement but I might have to go SRAM anyway because I use twist shifters.
This doesnt mean anything. One can glue or weld the Shimano derailleur body stiff and it will act the same way as the sram. The fact that the sram RD body dosent move just means the sram cage does more work. As long as the RD shifts gearing effectively and keeps the chain taught is all that matters. Too this vid doesnt show riding on flat surface. The Sram will be noisier than Shimano.. Why??? because Shimano has a pivoting body that doesnt confine the chain as Sram does
I've got Deore Shadow and its body doesn't move at all during riding. In fact, it's attached rigidly.

The more movement there is in the rear derailleur over rough ground, the more constant the chain tension will be, and thus the risk of dropping the chain is lower.

rudyv6 2 years ago
I am not expert by all means but does that swinging mean that the Shimano can take more abuse than the SRAM can? If here was lateral movement then yes the SRAM would be totally better but both Shimano and SRAM keep the alignment so the gears stay steady. I run XT on my bike and i really like it. It works like a charm and i have had a few major crashes and the XT took the abuse. I was told SRAM would not be so forgiving?
sas42113 2 years ago 3
i think its time for an update on your video mate. although there is nothing wrong with the shimano mech in there, i think with the later xtr models you will all have a differant opinion. (as sram mechs have changed very little since this was made).
do it and then say that shimano sucks.
sram would have never exsisted without shimano.
fezzzzzzzzzz 2 years ago
may i make a suggestion: it isnt really that important on the up and down movement on the slack side of the derrailler, its more important how much the mech moves side to side.
can someone re-up the video including laterla movement, hence this is what make the chain jump gears etc.
rhyspect 2 years ago
this video is crap it proves nothing...do you know how many different types of derailleurs shimano makes? put a hone or or an xtr in there and see how much those move around... I bet they a much stiffer..

That is an XTR.

my sram x7 has been going for 3 years now "AND GUESS WHAT" its been to hell and back and wont die u could say i have done at least 1 MILL shifts and has NEVA EVA LET ME DOWN SO IMO SRAM RUCKS & SHIMANO SUCKS

Pssssh derailleurs are for pussies, heck even chains are for pussies. Rope all the way!!!!
Jamesology 2 years ago
LOL but still thats retarded lol you don't actually use rope do you?
GREIVINGDEATH 2 years ago
my friend have a shimano XT..and he's been using it for 8 yrs already...still in good condition..i doubt sram can last that long too..
azaame 2 years ago
I have a SRAM derailleur that has been on my downhill bike for 14 years, and it helped get 4th in the NORBA Nationals back in 1998. My wife's FS MTB has Shimano. It's good, too, but not as crisp as the SRAM.
Wurfee 2 years ago 2
it doesnt matter if it moves. as long as it stays in the gear you want and provides crisp clean shifts. shimano rapes sram in durability, looks, and functionality.
bandoboy32 2 years ago
The durability of shimano probably comes from the fact that it is sprung. A rigid part like the SRAM will take much bigger shocks.
tricky778 2 years ago
wowo thank you for this, i was almost ready to purchase a kula supreme with the shimano xtr but not anymore now i must find a new hardtail xc with a sram
rrmmt23 2 years ago
want a hardtail?? Search at Specialized. I just bought my 2 days ago.
tipo87 2 years ago
thx u sir
rrmmt23 2 years ago
then tell me what bike did you bought. I'm just curious!! ;)
tipo87 2 years ago
The kula supreme is the best hardtail on the market - the head angle rocks... just sell the overpriced xtr derailleur and get a SRAM (with shifters of course).
robair78 2 years ago
thank you sir. I still was hooked on buying it even after i saw this test. But I will definately look into switching to SRAM derailers. Do i need to switch front derailer as well and have all SRAM or can SRAM and Shimano XTR work together? What do u recommend?
rrmmt23 2 years ago
the shimano looks like it is holding on for dear life. and no wonder shimano falls out of adjustment so fast!
sram is tough and manages the chain better thats why i go sram all the way
brianwhiteblue 2 years ago
SRAM components are sick, thank you for this testament.
jayske1212 2 years ago 3
the SRAM X0 is not neccessarily a downhill derailleur. Its used in all types of bike riding. The XTR derailleur is not meant for downhill, but its is their most expensive derailleur.
Saint deraileurs are shit compared to Sram X7+
Nice job Shitmano fans
R4P3S1CL3 2 years ago
But I do have to say that Shimano XT and XTR brakes are far superior to Sram Avid brakes. I have XT's on my downhill and XTR's on my xc bike (xtr's are just a bit lighter)
R4P3S1CL3 2 years ago
um well guys listen to cap1108 sram sx4 is shit for jumping or any major bumps i tryed it out for about a week at my local trail park and it bent inwards hitting 2 spokes (which broke them) then bent outwards....and all i did was a 2 feet jump!...
Nexumbiker110 2 years ago
is the sram alot quiter?
foxracing199ktm 2 years ago
the truth is than sram xo is a downhill derailleur, while the shimano xtr isn`t. they should have used the saint derailleur instead, which is made, like the xo, for downhill riding.
rochester212 2 years ago
...the shimano has supension....the SRAM doesn't :)

Amazing! It's been over two years now since this was first posted and you Shimano devotees are still denying what is evident to everyone who can see. Is there any evidence that would convince you Shimano cultists that SRAM simply makes a better derailleur? Oops I almost forgot, we're dealing with a religious fidelity that knows no disloyalty - Praise thee O'Shimano gods, we offer you our eternal supplications and refuse to let mere evidence dissuade our unfailing devotion to thee.
applefitch 2 years ago
ur a retard you know that right. shimano is better and will forever be better than sram! if i praised shimano then i would have never tried sram but i have!
i can not justify the expense of sram but i can shimano.
x.o may be slightly (and i mean slightly) better for dh but thats about it, xtr is great at everything.
but then again i suppose you havent even tried shimano! just a stupid narrow minded twat.
i'll see you on the trails when im riding by you picking your mech off the floor.
fezzzzzzzzzz 2 years ago
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TO ALLL PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it does not matter what shifter you have. i ride bike races which are like 26 miles long. my Rear Derailleur on my bike is 20 years old bike bike too is 20 years old but what I'm trying to say is that if you keep you bikes in a dry place and give it daily oils your bikes can last for over 30 years i have a bike thats 30 it is perfect it never broke but i got it from my dad which he too kept it in good shape. get a shimano its the best ever
thebond22 2 years ago
one thing shimano is a peace of crap and as long as it is the same speed shifters and the same brand as the derailleur it should work
pedrotyler 2 years ago
when i had shimano rear derailers they broke. after a couple large jumps i could not pedal while standing up without it skipping
NorthEasternSnow 2 years ago
I've tried Sram X0 and XTR. I love my XTR components and would never go back to Sram. It's about personal choice though. I always thought part of the rear mechs job was to move, to help take up chain slack quicker. What do I know. I'm just a bike mechanic and experienced XC racer.
djvagabon 2 years ago
Ok then why has shimano copied Sram with the new "Shadow" Derailleurs?
pchop18 2 years ago
nope.... best shifter is Sturmey-Archer. Eve BMW uses it for their bikes.
hasnasal 3 years ago
sram tough??? are you on drugs?? you can snap off a x9 or x0 just by farting on it. xt-xtr rule, if you ditch it the shimano rear mech basicly folds up out the way where as the srams just disintegrete
richg1979poo 3 years ago
at last someone who actually realises the shiteness off sram. for people to be telling me they beleive sram to be reliable is lies.all people who like or use sram are just trying to justify the money they wasted or are americans standing up for there home-grown company. all you need to do is spend that little extra on xtr and you will never look back or at sram ever again i promise, it is my mission in life to make sram go bust and i will suceed. sooner use suntour mechs now give me a thumbs up!
fezzzzzzzzzz 2 years ago
they make a pretty good fork and thats about it...
well then again, i did have a dart 3 crack on me... it was only used for commuting too

Both these companys suck if you are a commutter the best thing to do is go single speed or buy a vintage bike that has quality parts on it.
genya111 3 years ago
I run Sram X.7 in my MTB and everything is good, but SRAM road bike components suck ass and are generally shit compared to Shimano. Stick with Shimano or campy for road bikes.

shimano saint vs sram Xo
jjkkccmm 3 years ago
I build all my own bikes. I have been using XTER rear changers for 10 years--they work extrememly well, and are very tough. I did tacko a 960 recently, (was kinda my fault) but when it bent my heavy duty Ti hanger bent with it.
DiGiTaLdAzEDM 3 years ago
Its because the sram has a harder spring inside.
shimano in the new saint mech for 2009 have helped this by increasing the spring tension.
G1BBO4 3 years ago
Both shimano and sram are good. they beat many other derailleurs out there. I prefer sram, but shimanos are nice - i like the asthetics on the yumeyas
SirMrGiggles 3 years ago 3
fezzzzzzzzzz 3 years ago
no, they are both the best out there. shimano for smooth shifting and sram for good old toughness. trust me i had shimano deore setup but then switched to sram x-7. the difference is amazing, especially in Britain where the mud is terrible, my mech never stop working even though the mud was awful
S3CT10NE1GHT 3 years ago
there is only 1 best and that IS shimano. my xtr group has been through it all never cleaned left outside all year round rode in all terains and has yet to fail all my bikes have had this treatment and my x.9 spec'd bike was forever being repaired.
and to think that shimano spent 1000s of £'s a year testing there products and along comes m8y with his camera and thinks hes got it sussed......i dont think so
theres a reason why shimano control well over 50% of the bike components market!!
fezzzzzzzzzz 3 years ago
yeah because about 2% of people who buy shimano are actual serious offroad mountain bikers, not all the kit ride like shit people. look sram works for me and i go through 18 inches of mud every weekend and it never fails. its like the M16 and the AK47. i prefer the reliability.

How do the new shimano shadow mechs compare?
freedirk 3 years ago
does that mean movement is bad?
in that case, hardtail is better than full suspension.
a rigid fork from walmart is better than a fox talas
heck, a stool would be better than a bike.

@ urbanfireblade: U're right!!!
I had Shimano xt and now i have Sram X9.

You Need To Compare The Shimano xtr 2008 Shadow Against The XO I Think The Shadow will Outlook & OutTest The XO
BigBadJohn118 3 years ago 3
You need to compare the XTR M970 to the Sram.
proedgebiker 3 years ago 6
Good comparison but what are we really looking for? The fact that one moves alot and the other doesn't means the movement is confined to the arm/cage to do all the tensioning of the chain on Xram, whereas shimano design theirs to use the main body to work together with the cage/arm to keep tension on the chain. Personal preference at the end of the day.
urbanfireblade 3 years ago
Exactly
proedgebiker 3 years ago
They are simply made differently. Like you said this is a good comparison but not really a valid one in determining quality or function.
sperone915 3 years ago 2
the movement on the shimano seems like it would relieve a lot of the stress off road riding putst on the componentry. my xt has been shifting fine for over 10 years now. I have been debating Shimano vs SRAM on a replacement but I might have to go SRAM anyway because I use twist shifters.
EnnesX 3 years ago
So they work differently BFD

Guess what bike I have that doesn't have any chain slap at all?
My Pimped out Surly 1x1.
MASTERCON12 3 years ago
This doesnt mean anything. One can glue or weld the Shimano derailleur body stiff and it will act the same way as the sram. The fact that the sram RD body dosent move just means the sram cage does more work. As long as the RD shifts gearing effectively and keeps the chain taught is all that matters. Too this vid doesnt show riding on flat surface. The Sram will be noisier than Shimano.. Why??? because Shimano has a pivoting body that doesnt confine the chain as Sram does
