It was still a fun thing to see and one I thoroughly enjoyed the first time I saw it

I have to disagree, the game has its place in gaming history, but the was gameplay tedious, the quick time events a horrible stand in for real gameplay, and actual fight scenes clunky. While every character could be interacted with, there was very little reward for it, and the plot was very light and univolving.
lol 3rd Strike for the Dreamcast was bad because of numerous gameplay problems, i.e. timing for parrying was shit, some combos couldn't have been performed, new unblockables, etc.
for the most part, everything else was faithful to the arcade version. graphics were on par, music was identical and even offered remixed bgm. it's just the massive gameplay differences made it unplayable in general.
it was still a good port though, one of my first dreamcast games

@qwertyMrJINX i am and i'm not; this game is not pronounced "Shen-mu-eh". In japanese the "e" in "Shenmue" is represented with a nobasu line, which isn't spoken. Instead it dictates that the previous vowel sound be spoken longer, in this case the "u" in the syllable "mu". However when written in romanized form, it's written "Shenmue" instead "Shenmuu". Shenmuu would be more correct phonetically but not grammatically.

i loved the dreamcast. i think its biggest downfalls was the ability to play burned games on it. i still have copies of marvel vs. capcom 2 and street fighter alpha 3 for it.
I was one of the first people to buy the Dreamcast in Ireland and sadly one of the few. I bought shenmue straight away, not because of the console it was sold on but because i knew it was genius. The game even to this day is one of the best games i have ever played because it was far ahead of its time. I have beaten both shenmue games and if they bring out the 3rd chapter on whatever console, i will immediately buy it because its a legend of a game, now and into the future.
@conradojavier First: it came after the GTA serie. Second: Shenmue is more of a life simulator than a GTA, you can't even drive cars. Third: Shenmue is alot more deeper in gameplay and possibilities than all the GTA's combined.
SA and SA2 were the last games to deliver good story and voice work but there were a few good sonic games that came after them. (Sonic Heroes and ShadowTH)

There are only two guys I can tolerate when it comes to reviewing games, Derek Alexander (HVGN) and Chris Bores (Irate Gamer). HVGN can review a game I now nothing about and turn it into a classic. Irate Gamer's dry sense of humor makes want to see more of videos. With Derek playing the role of Gaming Historian, it gives him much more credibility than my defunct character, Calm Video Game Nerd.

Man. I don't know what the fuss was about with the PS2 graphics back in these times. I know that 10 years ago, we could tell the difference between Dreamcast and PS2 graphics but...they both look equally bad by today's standards.
I always point this out but the Sega Saturn had modem, which still works today for free. You can still play Daytona USA online, for free, on the Sega Saturn. As long as you have an analog phone line.

SEGA said that they gonna release Shenmue 3, if Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo gonna help to finance it. It would be so cool if Sony would help them finance it and so there would be Shenmue 1 to 3 on PS3.

Great great vid. I wish I could get to play the first Shenmue game without the pain of getting a Dreamcast somewhere. They are seriously quite rare in Finland, in fact I don't know ANYONE who had a Dreamcast. Everyone over here had PS1 or 2 or Nintendo 64 or whatever... I think the marketing of DC was close to nonexistant over here (as Sega wasn't particularly interested in Northern Europe, but rather tried to boost sales in America, Japan etc.) so yeah... Too bad.

@lophatjello Sonic Adventure was damn good--it just wasn't the 2D Sonic that everyone loved. If you look at it on its own, and don't compare it to its Genesis counterpart, it's easy to see the good things about it.

I liked the game but I hate how everyone seems to look past the awful-to-sub-par voice acting in the series. For example..

I can't stand the real gaming historian. That guy can't get his facts straight most of the time... feels like a spoken word version of a Wikipedia entry.
Course you're better at this than he is Derek, and i dont mean to bash your new vid. I just figured now would be a good time to express how i feel about that particular retrowaretv'r. If he was left off the Retroware TV DVD, i would have bought it :P

@lophatjello the Sonic Adventure games were good! I love them! then everything else went down hill after Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) I only like that game because of the song His World by Zebrahead (aka the 2nd best music performers in the world, with Starship amazing being the 1st of course ^_^)

@lophatjello Sonic Adventure was damn good--it just wasn't the 2D Sonic that everyone loved. If you look at it on its own, and don't compare it to its Genesis counterpart, it's easy to see the good things about it.
