You can't expect street racing to be completely eliminated simply by building drag strips, but it would certainly help in reducing at least a small amount of illegal racing. Personally, I launch my car from red lights just for fun when I feel the need for speed, but if I have access to a local dragstrip (which I don't) I would drive like a civillized person. Other than playing need for speed, I really can't find a safe way to relieve my strong desire for the thrill of speed.

The police missed the whole point. If there were something else to do in oakland, and in other urban centers in general, there would be less illegal and reckless activity. It's not gonna stop crime, but it'll give people other things to do. When your city looks like a ghost town and is filled with liquor stores, what hope do you have? They take away anything that'll give you a positive release of energy and then blame you for what happens. They just wanna turn it into a police state anyway.
