  • Now I understand where hamelin "took inspiration" for his etude after la campanella...

  • Thanks Youtube I discovered this wonderfull pianist. He is playing the most difficult works with such an elegance....amazing! But there is also a funny thing with the pics of the videos. After watching several videos I think that when he was not on the piano, playing, he was smoking.

  • @Dankbarkeit1980

Well, not exactly: he smoking also when was on the piano!

Sergio Fiorentino was an heavy smoker and heavy consumer of Coca Cola!

As he use to said: "the smoke kills the bacteria!"

  • @volodya2 Hahaha! Thanks a lot for the information.

  • This is said to be one of Liszt's most difficult works, isn't it?

  • So, is better than Howard?

  • A "sacred monster" of the piano.

  • I've been looking for a good recording of this piece for a long time. Thanks for posting. I've always thought Fiorentino was one of the most underrated pianists of the 20th century. Perhaps his performance style was seen as anachronistic by the establishment? Probably having too much Liszt and Rachmaninov in his repertory didn't help either.

  • actually Fiorentino's reportire is very diversed, his Bach is some of the best i have heard, you should try them out.

  • I know, I've heard many of his other recordings, like the fantasy and fugue in A minor, but Fiorentino was known, fortunatly or unfortunatly as Liszt and Rachmaninov specialist. Many of his Chopin recordings are great too, (but not for Chopin purists) I remember liking the impromtu #1 expecially.

  • oh my god this is a treasure!

  • How is it possible that this fellow isn't as famous as other greats. Goes to tell you what publicity and hype does to promote certain people and others are left behind.

  • Unfortunatly he was italian.

  • Horowitz praised him often. Michelangeli said "he is the only other pianist" or something similar.

  • @pianiplunker Michelangeli was an asshole if he thought it in a bad way
