Thank you for the video! My current laptop won't run WoW well (hp tx2000z), and I was considering an upgrade. The one feature I wanted was the ability to run WoW at a decent framerate and resolution. Your video, and a couple others, helped seal the deal for me! Macbook Pro ordered! Thanks again for the upload!
great video. have some of you fellas saw the wow cheats pack at warcraftbotsXinfo (replace X with .) ? it's astounding, i just down loaded the pack. its got completely everything inside it, gold guides, bots, hacks, glitches as well as the new arena glitch. i perhaps should not reveal to folks about it however at least this gives you all a fair opportunity to download it before i own you all!
Damn man, WoW runs so smoothly on your MBP compared to mine? I've got the same MBP as you apart from mines a 2.8ghz... even when i turn settings right down i still get lots of jumpiness! do you think it might be due to the laptop overheating? because it does get quite hot to the touch... any tips on increasing game speeds would be greatly appreciated :)
I've built computers for about 5 years and you can buy what you want if you have the money. Mac aren't "gaming machines" however they have great design and they are catching with today's hardware. You can buy an Asus for cheaper, yes, but it's kinda bulky and is just a "gaming" laptop.I don't see the harm in spending more money for something with a better design. Price out the current iMac and you'll see that it isn't too overly priced.
just one question...why does it look like crap if you do not use HD? I don't like to use HD cause it lags all the time(I figure it my computer seeing as that happens with every video, and my computer is shit).
actually fgocards you can probably find a cheaper pc build and have it be close to the top of the line gaming pc and im sure mac's are cheaper then that too...
I love how he spends the first 40 seconds making sure we know he "wasn't playing for real" haha...confirming my initial stereotypes of Alliance players. For the HORDE!!!!
Hi Goldfingiz, quick question...I too am considering a MBP 17 unibody for WoW...Would you mind posting (or better yet, recording) what are your frame rates with 1xAA and Shadows set to minimum?
(Shadows are a known performance hog in WoW and Blizz recommends turning them off on the Mac. Speaking for many people, I don't care about shadows. :)
BTW, many thanks for posting your video! Much appreciated.
Honestly I did not notice a major difference with 1x AA and no shadows, but I will test it further and if there is a significant difference I will record a vid :)
Actually 9600M GT graphics is outdated and not even near what other companies provide in terms of graphics. For notebooks, Apple really lags behind in the latest graphics.
Thanks a lot for the video. My understanding on MAC you can record game play video&audio at the same time, correct? I hate when people record a WoW video on PC using fraps(is it called fraps?) and then completely ruin the video by putting some stupid ridiculous heavy metal over it, brrr :-)
I love that your video has proper sound!
If you ever do a recording of normal WLK instances that would be fun. Not just top 10-25m raids but normal 5m instances even lvl70+.Or how about BRD? :-)
Thanks man, I'm the same way. I get ready to see a video and then I end up closing it or turning the sound down because there is some type of annoying music playing, lol. I actually took some CoS footage the other day, just regular boss fights. It actually ran really well in that area. I forget if I deleted it but I'll check. Also, if I have the balls to run Naxx on the laptop (been doing it on my PC still) we are doing Sapphiron and Kel'Thuzad tonight.
One of my comps is Mac Mini :-) It does a descent job with most graphics settings turned down, 20-40 fps in normal places and 5m instances (I use classic add-ons like Omen, Recount, Quest helper, Atlas loot, Enchantrix-item info only, Cartographer). Dalaran is $%!t, 5-10fps, Shattrath is 10-20 (maybe because it is empty nowadays?), never tried top lvl instances. So if someone is after budget WoW comp Mac Mini is fine, 380 pounds in UK (no monitor, no keyboard, no mouse).
Hi man I'm looking at buying a 17" macbook pro, but would still like to run a few games on it. If so is it worth going for the 2.93GHz model? Plus would having 8Gb of RAM instead of the 4 speed gaming up noticeable?
My only real concern is the temperature, i have an old Macbook and it gets very hot indeed after a short period of time, does the unibody stop this? Cheers
The Nvidia Geforce 9400M in the 17" doesn't heat up much, but the Nvidia Geforce 9600M does, and if you game, you'd use that. The RAM probably won't make much of a difference for gaming, but the CPU would.
Actually, they have made a lot of improvements to the game's engine and even better spec'd newer PCs have trouble running it. The gaming PC that I built in late 2007 runs it better than the MBP but in the new content areas it's still not at 60 FPS.
I kind of agree with him because WoW ran on my 15" late 2007 MBP perfectly fine at full settings and resolution. Try out a game like Crysis and see the performance on that.

Could someone please explain "unibody" for someone not really into computers?
handelsme 1 year ago
i drool over the 17 inch Macbook pro as much as the next person, but to be completely honest, it's gaming performance seems rather lackluster...
15 fps is NOT what i'd spend 2.5g+ for, and even taking the detailed settings into account, it simply is not what i'd have expected it to be.

It's not the best, but 9600M GT is certainly better than say a cheap dell at 600 bucks.

yeah but there really isnt very many alternatives to it atm, cept maybe the ATI 4650 or 4670 Mobility radeon,
wonder when nvidia is going to update their midrange chip

I turned AA off and honestly I didn't notice much of a difference. 1920x1200 is the native resolution of the 17" MBP.

Test a real game on it. that's a great piece of hardware you have and that came will run on computers 50 years old. that and it's gay as hell.

honestly,,, 15frames per second is not decent, but i guess that could be the recording program getting in the way..
