Right before core production started for SS4, Abel was supposed to be a young French girlish boy with sandals, but they switched it to Fedor's Russian design at the last moment. They even made it an in-joke within the game that the creators knew Abel was Russian by making Zangief's(pro wrestling Sambo) very random rival match be with Abel(military Sambo).

Charlie being the nice guy he saved Abel before the place blew and left him at a base of mercenaries who were good friends with Charlie. Abel then lived with them for a few years training with them until he set out to learn where shadoloo is now and what he realy is.

@EcafDas Also, read the UDON Street Fighter comics. As Charlie was about to blow up a shadoloo facility where they were testing human weapons projects he found Abel. Charlie being the nice guy he saved Abel before the place blew and left him at a base of mercenaries who were good friends with Charlie. Abel then lived with them for a few years training with them until he set out to learn where shadoloo is now and what he realy is.

Some people think Abel is Remy's (SF3: 3rd Strike) father because they're both French, they have similar moves and its possible Charlie rescued them both along with Remy's sister from a Shadoloo base and showed Abel the Sonic Boom (supposedly Remy saw this) Remy hates Abel because he walked the path of a warrior and left him and his sister (who died) Abel possibly doesn't remember any of this, does anyone believe this?
