To date, NASA has discovered over 300+ exoplanets. With Kepler now doing it's business, these will shoot up into the 1000's of discovered planets. The easiest way, at least for the moment is to name new discoveries under the star and then alpha based upon when it was discover i.e. "B".
What's up with the name? At least call it Junior or something. But just "B"? That's just plain wrong.
