Lovely nice voice but nothing special, Once you hear Dame Shirely Bassey still sing this song ever other singer only becomes a runner up. Dame Shirely Bassey sings with feelings, expression and is just awsome! She is still performing even at the age of 72! Brilliant voice and the only female singer to ever sing 3 James bond movie themes! Watch her vidos on utube shirely bassey till plus never, never, never and If you go away ... ALL well worth watching.
@buckingham1948 Bassey was always a bit over the top, which is why she never caught here in the states. Jane Morgan, on the other hand, was very popular until she retired.
How marvellous to hear again the lovely voice of this beautiful and gracious lady! This takes me back to the halcyon days of my youth when men aspired to be gentlemen and women were more than just women - they were LADIES. When I see and hear the garbage that passes for music today, I cringe in horror. If I actually believed for one moment in Darwin's theory of evolution, I would swear that man is travelling backwards. We need more ladies like Jane Morgan and many fewer screeching harridans!
Then, you are mistaken. The point was that popular music, rather than evolving, has devolved into a form[at] that could be reproduced easily by a stone-age society with no concept of the values that have made Western Civilization a true boon to all of mankind.
@EdWatts I am afraid you're the one mistaken. The evolution of human altruism cannot be expained as complex music being evolved, or as simple music as de-evolved. Evolution isn't always the process of superiorization, especially in the case of human arts.
Actually, "superiorization" (Is that even a word?) IS the goal/outcome of evolution. If a species reproduces offspring which are inferior to the the parents, eventually that species will become extinct. Altruism has nothing to do with evolution.
Can you honestly tell me that today's rap and hip-hop are, in any way, superior to the music of Mozart and Beethoven -- or even Lennon and McCartney? Is Mapplethorpe's "Piss Christ" in any way superior to Rodin's "The Thinker"?
@EdWatts@EdWatts Yes, it is a word (you can find it in Oxford's Dictionary of New English). And in fact, altruism is studied extensively in human evolution.
You also misunderstood my point. I do not think that rap is more complex or superior to western classical or jazz. My point is just because less complex music has become more popular today that it doesn't deride the theory of evolution. That's all I am saying.
@jaysonvalentine The point was not to start a debate on Darwin's flights of fancy, but simply to emphasize that IF I believed it, then I would accuse him of getting it wrong. Society is not "evolving" upwards but seems to be regressing to primitive music, behaviour and dress. Anyhow, I do give credit to evolutionists for their great depth of faith. To deny the Creation by an omnipotent and omniscient God and believe that all things happened purely by chance takes more faith than I possess.
The bottom line is that today's popular music is designed to appeal to base instincts rather than to uplift and provoke thought and introspection. It does, indeed, seem to be a reflection of society as a whole.
How true, how true. Most of today's "male" announcers and so on sound like, dare I say, fudge packers; listen to Reed Hadley or George Fenneman to hear what a man should sound like. Likewise, nearly every girl/woman in today's world of "popular" entertainers sounds like a fourteen-year-old "valley girl". Jane Morgan sounds like a woman; Kathleen Turner is also a great exemplar of what a woman should sound like.
Halcyon days, indeed; America seems to be a nation in decline.
@EdWatts We are on the same wavelength. The western world is in decline. Politicians treat the Constitution like scrap paper; crime is rampant; women want to be men while men become feminized; queers hold parades and flaunt their perverted lifestyles openly; true Christianity is under constant attack by Marxist - inspired bureaucrats; there is no discipline in schools; governments do not serve the people but rather dictate to them. Anyhow, I will never trade Jane Morgan for Lady Gaga!
@supernikki12100 I congratulate you on the depth of your faith! You see, as a Christian, I believe that everything was created by an omniscient and omnipotent God. That, I do freely admit, takes faith. On the other hand, you and others of the same view, believe that everything from the creation of the world to the advent of man, happened by chance and that takes much greater faith than I have at my command.
@ulsterprod1 Theory of evolution has nothing to with faith , it has to do with nature , nature is pure the human race has and probably will win in destroying nature that means all life, we are all animals and we are not superior to other life
@supernikki12100 Of course it is faith! All faith is not of a spiritual nature. You believe in Darwin's flight of fancy; ergo you have faith in it, despite the fact that it is merely a theory, yet to be proven. You mention nature but fail to explain its origin. Where did nature begin? Was it created by a Supreme Being or did it simply go spring out of nowhere? If man descended from monkeys all the way back to a single - celled being where did it come from? Darwin couldn't explain it. No one can.
I like Bassey's version, but it was done much later than Jane Morgan's, who by the way, is 90.

Great singer; voice; song. Used to have all of Jane's records. So far as I
know, she is the only pop singer who went to Juilliard.
She married Larry Weintraub, manager and concert promoter for folks like
Elvis, John Denver, Led Zippelin, The Carpenters. Entertaining biography
called "When I Stop Talking You'll Know I'm Dead".
Tnx for the melodic post.

@ulsterprod1 As much as I connect with your sentiments, I believe your mentioning of the theory of evolution is a non sequitur.
