Madden 11 Suggestion - Purgatory Blocking Illusion

Yes, Madden has a lot of issues. But apparently nobody but me realizes that you can't block before the screen pass is thrown - you can, but if you're still blocking when the pass is throw, that's pass interference. Just sayin.

@TheSchubert21 On a screen? Screens happen behind the line of scrimmage, therefore any block is legal (granted it isn't a hold, clip or block in the back). In order to have pass interference, illegal touching, or defensive holding the receiver must be more then 5 yards down field. The defensive back can do anything they want to the receiver within 5 yards, as well as the offensive being able to block and run downfield as long as the pass is behind the line of scrimmage.

To me it sounds like he is a guy that enjoys playing this game but wants the company that makes it to put out the best product possible. Madden isn't bad, but it does have some issues that are plainly obvious. I personally prefer NCAA over Madden, but that's just me.

Yeah of course he isn't his route takes him probably 10-15 yards down the field to try and fool his corner to come with him and then he would start blocking after his route is completed. Unfortunately either the corner wasn't fooled or they are in a zone defense so he just snuffed out the run.

Well, it is a screen, they don't block til the back gets the ball, they run routes. But I've had the problem you were showing with Walter with my o-line. Defenders just run right by untouched almost every time I call the screen.

Firing out to block is perfectly legal on run plays. But on pass plays I don't think you're allowed to fire out and block past the line of scrimmage bud. On pass plays, the defense is allowed to initiate contact with receivers in the first five yards, but not the other way around. This is how defenders are taught to recognize run vs pass, by looking at the first step of the offensive line. If the offensive line fires out it's a run, if they don't then the defender knows it's a pass.

receivers always try to run the corners away from screens in real life you idiot! next time look at the play before you run it cuz it shows that the wr are supposed to run streaks. if he tried to block the corner when the ball was snapped then the corner would fight the block off at the line. the defensive play was obviously a corner blitz

You have to understand, in order for EA to COMPLETELY fix the problems that lie within the Madden games, they have to TOTALLY revamp the game itself! That means, they'd have to start over and design a new game engine. All these patches and the new debugging tool that they are going to use for the Wide Receivers this year don't fix the main problems. All they do is make the game a bit more tolerable to play.

have we experimented to see if this occurs while holding sprint more than when not holding sprint? that was the issue in madden 10 and pre-patch. players will let up on blocking when you hold sprint to make you "wait for blocks" but its only counter-productive.

There is always gray area to my point, most refs will let WR start blocking a little bit early on WR screens b/c those screens plays happen immediately, one step drops and quick throws. RB screens are about deception, you make defense think is a straight pass play instead of a screen. U want the the defense chasing your WRs on their routes when they realize that the RB has the ball with 3 o-linemen in front of him. If your WRs immediately start blocking, there's no deception = little to no Gain.

Look I despise Madden, but this is a bad example. Here is why, on a run play every person after the ball is snap can block, that why you see most O-line run forward into the defense on run plays b/c the line of scrimmage doesn't matter. A screen isnt a run play, its a pass. Thats why ur o-line takes a step back to block and not forward. Its illegal to block "beyond" the Line of scrimmage until the pass is either thrown or caught. That's why ur WRs didnt block right at the snap, they had to wait.

Madden 11 will be exactly like Madden 10. The last 'decent' Madden was 2008, but PS3 owners got a raw deal. EA's waiting on the sales of Backbreaker and then buy the tech from them. Great work as always.

None of these items will be addressed until a new "next generation" system is realeased. EA has to scrap the current engine and build a new one from the ground up. But since that costs money and they are making tons of money on the current product, why alter what you are doing when you dont need too? This game will be a mess until a new system is released. 2K had a good engine prior to next gen so all they did was port it to the new systems. EA has alot of work to do to make this product legit.

I had to of had one of the most frustrating games last nite. I've long noticed that WR don't block but my lineman were just allowing my QB to get eaten up. A lot of the "purgatory" blocking going on. On one of my passes I did throw a pass to receiver that was covered well but the pass was headed right into his chest and the ball motion shifts into the DB for a INT WTF! Really upsetting when your enjoying a good march up the field then Skynet has to intervene.
