@alanO134 how are you supposed to hold it? if it works for the shooter that's what matters? do you use a gangster grip? do you even have a gun? airsoft doesnt count.
The M14 in full auto is too hard to control therefore they kept it for semi auto. It was primarily an infantry weapon until replaced by M16 in 1966. The gun is a rifle, not an Assault Rifle. Keeping it under control (7.62x51mm) would be too much to ask for. See, I can make counter-smart ass remarks, too!
Let me sum this up for you, the round is too big for it to be effectively used in full auto.
@Cowbelltheoneandonly thats not true I've just got done watching a bunch of videos of people shooting an M14 in full auto in control. What are you talking about?
Many videos I'm seeing on youtube is of the LMG heavy barreled M14..although the M14 in full auto has less kick than the G3 type rifles/FAL type rifles in full auto, I can see no need to go full auto in the .308 caliber
That's not the proper way to hold it, but if it works for you and it shoots tight groups.. keep on holding it like that. Holding the magazine won't induce a malfunction.
I read something recently about not holding m14s by the magazine. if some thing goes wrong and that .30 round explodes, the magazine will take your hand with it.
What distance do you have to qualify at in basic training. Do you have to use the m16 or the m4 carbine. My brother has an m4 and it feels like a toy.
@EHSPP16 Looks like he is having trouble too since his arm tendons are sticking the hell out and he changes the way he holds it half way through... he should stick to normal grip. And M14 are SIIYYYAAAK
Yeah man that weapon is beautiful... Definitely be careful holding it from the magazine tho, I had a round blow out a lug on my M1A bolt and it blew the shit out of my magazine... It could have been ugly... nice vid
No, the M1 carbine uses a light .30 caliber round. the M14 uses a full power 7.62 (.30 caliber) rifle round. It is what replaced the M1 Garand, which used an even more powerful .30-06 cartridge. If the M14 is a "modern-day" WWII weapon, it is the M1 Garand

@disturbedone5009 : Yes that's why I'm saying it's also an evolution of the BAR. The M14 has the body, receiver and sights of a Garand and the barrel (its shape at least), magazine and overall length of a BAR. It's basically a combination of the M1 and BAR to correct the flaws of each in the process... but that's only my opinion and you can have yours :)
Oh, I see, you're not wearing gloves and I can't tell how hot it is outside by looking at a video. On a really hot day the Barrel and forend don't cool quick enough and gloves are uncomfortable. This is when a vertical foregrip comes in handy but if the gun doesn't have one the magazine is the next best thing.
If you shoulder it properly you have more control over it when your supporting hand is further down the forened. The idea is to push it into your shoulder, not pull it down or away from your shoulder. Besides when you support and shoulder the rifle or carbine properly your transition from standing to kneeling or prone will not be interrupted or delayed. But of course if you're not trying to acquire the rapid fire expetise of a gunner or the precision a rifleman it doesn't matter.
if i was the owner of that rifle i would be less worried about him holding the mag like and that and more worried about barrel damage. if it is that hot there may be some damage. but hey its only a $1300 rifle so no worries.
It wasn't meant to be held by the magazine...moving the mag out of the way while the weapon is trying to cycle could mess something up. But, given the circumstances listed in the magic description, I suppose it's alright. I'd wear gloves to avoid screwing up someone else's weapon who has been kind enough to let me use it, but whatever.
He's holding it wrong. Yeah, you can hold it like that but as you can see, it's not very stable. I've fired a shitload of rounds through an M14 and never has it been too hot to hold by the stock.
Not trying to flame anybody here but as a USMC PMI, seeing this kind of stuff on the range drives me nuts.
You are not suppose to hold it from the magazine but this was an M16 range day and the armorer brought one of the new M14, so the rifle was too hot to hold from the stock because it was shot all day. One other thing most of the weight is on my shoulder and right hand, the hand on the magazine is just actually holding it steady.
@JohnAshcroft actually it has been known to make guns jam or magazines misfeed especially in the m16, m4, and ar15 similar platforms. apart from that its really bad form and looks gay.
@killratoss The M16, M4, and AR15 are all the exact same platform, and have absolutely no relation to the M14. The M14 magazine locks in a totally different way than M16 type rifles and is unlikely to cause the jam that you refer to. You don't sound like you know what you are talking about. Go back to COD.
@JohnAshcroft well if u knew how to read you would see that i wrote its makes the m16 platform jam and misfeed most commonly. i said similar platforms to the m16 because there are a million variations of that body. even though the m14 is similar to the ak or sig the way the magazine locks in, it can still have problems when u hold the magazine. i have shot far more guns than you by the way and will also kick ur fuckin ass a COD. go back to COD? i think i will right now actually thanks.
@killratoss In a video showing the M14, you whine about how holding the magazine causes jams in an M16 (???). Kids, I think we have quite the keyboard commando here! Your comments paint a sad picture of you; they don't make them like they used to in Canada, do they?
No, he isnt holding it correctly, but more importantly, the magazines have a habit of sometimes falling out. HOWEVER, I TOTALLY agree with jimjim49 - the Damn weapon does NOT get too hot to HOLD! BS. The top cover of the barrel is slotted for air to travel through and cool it down. AND - The WOOD Stock does NOT get hot. You that dont know a damn thing about this rifle F'ng STOW IT. If you DONT know what youre talking about shut the hell up you're showing your asses.
you along with jimjim are a bunch of f**ken retards it's not a wood stock. It's a composite stock you stupid fu*k and it gets extremely hot. Now if you don't know what your talking about, as you obviously don't shut the fuck up.
Yeah (TheSwabbie) he really doesn't know what he is talking about. Probably idiots who sit there and play Call of Duty all day. Weapons get pretty hot quickly even if you only fire off a couple of rounds, if the weapon has been fired all day it is very understandable that it would be too hot to hold from the stock. Doesnt matter what kind of stock it is either. Saying a WOOD stock doesnt get hot is like saying WOOD can't catch on fire. BS. Stop playing video games.
I think the only thing people haven't mentioned is that if it's really hot you should probably let it cool for a while so you don't risk warping the barrel or do excess wear on the rifling with high-temperature loads. It should be fine, but you just got to be careful with keeping a weapon firing when it gets really hot. Nice rifle though!
You are holding it "wrong" or like someone who has never been trained to fire that rifle or another other military issue rifle for that matter. Before you flame me, I do know what I am talking about.
@navycop2005 Lighten up bub, I train-fired the 14 back in 1964 at Fort Dix, NJ, and the stock was wood. Heavy? Yup, Loud? Yup. We weren't even allowed to use any form of ear protection back then. My ears STILL ring.
I'm thinking you were maybe still directly attached to your momma about then.
And no, if you tried to hold this weapon by the magazine a DI would kick your ass.
No lefties either; bolt in the eye, etc. There was life before you, y'know?
Have you seen the video here on youtube of an AK-47 starting on fire from getting too hot (on purpose of course)? Respect for being a marine, but chill out broski.
I'm looking at for a civilian version of the m14 legal in California for a starting rifle and was wondering if that was a good idea. P.s how much kick does it have?
an m14 as a starting rifle wouldnt be too bad an idea, i'd snap it up quick though, i hear the governator is trying to pass shit banning the m14. my dad owns a sawn off semi auto version and a full walnut stock full auto version, but we keep them in utah. and yes, the walnut does get f-ing hot after a few mags through it
The M14S is a nice rifle, it's my favorite rifle to haul down to the range. Recoil is far less punishing then the 30-06 (I can put 80 rounds down range in a single sitting with the M14 before my shoulder starts to get sore, the rem 700 30-06 I can do at more 20 before I need a break).
Why is everyone on youtube so full of shit? I am really getting sick of seeing these arguments between 14 year old airsoft nerds about who is he better "combat" sniper. Go outside, play a sport, and then maybe learn how to shoot with a single shot .22.
Grow up or shutup, because your bullshit is pathetic and depressing.
shit, both of you are right. airsoft players think they're all sierra hotel because mommy bought them a plastic M4 and some multicam and they get to play with they're other little buddies in the suburban-hell cul-de-sac patch of woods and they think they have the right to critique an actual serviceman on how they shoot. put down your plastic toy, lose your virginity, and join the fucking miliary.
I guess you are right, an airsoft player shouldn't criticize real soldiers. The two thing is complety different. I play airsoft and I really respect soldiers. Some of my elder relatives served in the WWII.
Why the hell do you all keep making these ridicilous arguments on how to hold a gun?
Read the description. He didn't have any shooting gloves available, he was holding it from the magazine because the stock was extremely hot from firing it all day.
I'm pretty sure that he figured out that holding the magazine is not as effective.

@JohnAshcroft well if u knew how to read you would see that i wrote its makes the m16 platform jam and misfeed most commonly. i said similar platforms to the m16 because there are a million variations of that body. even though the m14 is similar to the ak or sig the way the magazine locks in, it can still have problems when u hold the magazine. i have shot far more guns than you by the way and will also kick ur fuckin ass a COD. go back to COD? i think i will right now actually thanks.
killratoss 1 year ago
@killratoss In a video showing the M14, you whine about how holding the magazine causes jams in an M16 (???). Kids, I think we have quite the keyboard commando here! Your comments paint a sad picture of you; they don't make them like they used to in Canada, do they?
JohnAshcroft 1 year ago 2
No, he isnt holding it correctly, but more importantly, the magazines have a habit of sometimes falling out. HOWEVER, I TOTALLY agree with jimjim49 - the Damn weapon does NOT get too hot to HOLD! BS. The top cover of the barrel is slotted for air to travel through and cool it down. AND - The WOOD Stock does NOT get hot. You that dont know a damn thing about this rifle F'ng STOW IT. If you DONT know what youre talking about shut the hell up you're showing your asses.
TheSwabbie 3 years ago
you along with jimjim are a bunch of f**ken retards it's not a wood stock.

RagnirLP 3 years ago
I think the only thing people haven't mentioned is that if it's really hot you should probably let it cool for a while so you don't risk warping the barrel or do excess wear on the rifling with high-temperature loads. It should be fine, but you just got to be careful with keeping a weapon firing when it gets really hot. Nice rifle though!
armormaster 3 years ago
You are holding it "wrong" or like someone who has never been trained to fire that rifle or another other military issue rifle for that matter. Before you flame me, I do know what I am talking about.

Me At The Range.
KNSTROCTIR 3 years ago

Can we be friends?

I'm looking at for a civilian version of the m14 legal in California for a starting rifle and was wondering if that was a good idea. P.s how much kick does it have?
21197301668223 3 years ago
very good rifle. kick is not too bad.
morningstar223 3 years ago
an m14 as a starting rifle wouldnt be too bad an idea, i'd snap it up quick though, i hear the governator is trying to pass shit banning the m14. my dad owns a sawn off semi auto version and a full walnut stock full auto version, but we keep them in utah. and yes, the walnut does get f-ing hot after a few mags through it
richardman1992 3 years ago
The M14S is a nice rifle, it's my favorite rifle to haul down to the range. Recoil is far less punishing then the 30-06 (I can put 80 rounds down range in a single sitting with the M14 before my shoulder starts to get sore, the rem 700 30-06 I can do at more 20 before I need a break).

can the m14 take soviet rounds?

No. It fires 7.62 NATO, and only 7.62 NATO.

Shifty567 3 years ago 6
i play airsoft but fck you guys with your youtube arguments y dont you join the military and see how hard it is you pathetic cunts

I know man.
esh325 3 years ago
shit, both of you are right. airsoft players think they're all sierra hotel because mommy bought them a plastic M4 and some multicam and they get to play with they're other little buddies in the suburban-hell cul-de-sac patch of woods and they think they have the right to critique an actual serviceman on how they shoot. put down your plastic toy, lose your virginity, and join the fucking miliary.
musaf22 3 years ago 6
I guess you are right, an airsoft player shouldn't criticize real soldiers. The two thing is complety different. I play airsoft and I really respect soldiers. Some of my elder relatives served in the WWII.
Are you a soldier?

You might want to try getting a pair of shooting gloves if the stock is too hot;
I got a nice pair from China on Ebay for $5.

Bahawha!
StantheGunman 3 years ago
Why the hell do you all keep making these ridicilous arguments on how to hold a gun?
Read the description. He didn't have any shooting gloves available, he was holding it from the magazine because the stock was extremely hot from firing it all day.
End story.
