This video inspires me so much. It represents everything I believe in regarding the family and I hope one day if I ever have children I can be around as much as possible without having to succumb to this materialistic bullshit way of life.
I went to the bookstore to check out the Off the Grid book today. I liked reading her story of why she moved and her experiences of living off grid. I have been looking to move to a location in texas close to big bend. It does not look easy but its not easy living in the city ether. I feel ill give up on some of the conveniences of the city for a peace of mind out in the middle of nowhere.
The best LEGAL way to get out of property taxes is to buy a camper/rv and park it on BLM land. I ahev seen many living in tents and pull behind cargo trailers. However it you don't mind rent your home from t government with property taxes then just buy a small lot and build a adobe home rom local materials. There is the so called earth bag home too.
This gal is totally right. We once lived in a big fancy house but I rebeled agains the vanity of it. My father once said, "If you can't pay cash, you don't deserve it. Yeah he never barrowed money for anything. Save it up and buy it ! No new cars either. Let everyone else drive the national economy! I want to get back to growing my own food again but I do not want the property taxes! ! !
Big Bend is beautiful, but better to save romantic notions for visiting rather than living there. People living there must be self-reliant and self-responsibile. The desert can be a harsh place to live and survive. Many of us are truly off-grid with no water, power, cell service, or any of the infrastructure most take for granted.
So how are you getting out of paying taxes? Just because you're off grid won't get you out of Uncle Sam beating on your door and wanting back assessed taxes. This is one of the major reasons that folks are leaving the country for other parts of the world.
@MrSafetymeeting There's no mortgage when the land is $2000-$5000 dollars. That's what most of these people are paying.I'm about to do the same thing but you do have to do your research. Some counties are easier than others.

@Engineer245 She's a lady! Also, she's a smart lady. I am interested in building a house off grid. How do I accomplish this? I have little money, so?

As of this posting there are eight intelligent people and one cowardly moron that didn't see fit to post his opposition.
