I think this song was called 'Painted Lady' on the original long player record. There was certainly a song of that title, but my memory of it isn't exactly like this
I think this is definitely about an innocent young guy losing his virginity to (maybe not a prostitute, but) an older, more experienced woman who perhaps found him very desireable, or just thought he was hot.
I had never heard this song before spotting it here and all the while listening to it I had this feeling of familiarity which I couldn't place. Like an itch I couldn't scratch. Seeing your post brought it into focus: yes, it has certain elements of that old Elton john chestnut. Thanks.
And I love his "poetry" in the second track, Mr. Kingdom: "Looking from this empty room The corridors of endless gloom Go crawling through the night To meet the dawn thats on it's way. Oh, to sleep, perhaps to dream, To live again those joyous scenes. The laughter and the folly, That are locked inside my head. Help me such a lonely soul, In dreams to leave behind the world. Help me Mr. Kingdom, please, To find the rainbow's end." I love this poetry and its too bad other albums weren't the same.
Oh Ok, I'm terribly sorry. It's me I should got out and get me some brains. I knew I could use it some day. Everyone who admire Jeff Lynne is a friend!
have you got the beginning of 'Eldorado', I just love the intro !!!!!! can't find it anywhere else, nearest I could get was 'can't get it out of my head'.....

Jeff Lynne should have done more research with the names of some of his songs. He has like 20 songs that share names with other popular songs.

Oh, Yes. 'Eldorado' is my favourite E.L.O. record. Released in 1974. I still listen to it. Oh, the memories.

this song seemed to tie into the Eldorado as paradise theme. Is it heaven or hell? Answered by the reprise in the end.

Something to say against Jeff Lynne? Go out and get yourself a brain. I pity you.

They say that the lyrics are about a prostitute. If you are honest you agree.
I have noyhing against Jeff Lynne. I take it as a humour. I admire him.

A common mistake. I often refer to this song as Painted Lady also.
