The majority of cures to the world's dreaded diseases are discovered by American pharmaceutical researchers supported by the American free enterprise system. The drug companies are not the bad guys.
In Michigan, we just lost 10,000 research jobs when Pfizer pulled out due to declining profitability following the expiration of patents. That is the Michigan reality. Economic populism appeals to the heart, but it ends up hitting the stomach when real people lose real jobs. That is straight talk.
