It is because they agreed to participate in the robbery which makes them guilty because it encouraged the robbery to take place. If they would have said, "No we shouldn't rob them" The robbery may not have happened. They did so something, it just wasn't physical act of murder it was the encouragement of criminal activity that lead to a murder. They could have stopped the murder in other words and instead chose to encourage criminal behavior.

You can't be accused for something that don´t have the intention to do it. In this case those some kids must be charged for robbery and the others for murder but with a less punishment. The judge must see th original intention. I´m attorney, this cases the punishment can´t never be the same for someone who plans a crime (circunstances of place, time, victim phisical characteristics, etc.) and for someone who never thought in that.
